We did not want to valet due to Covid. Even though did not valet the car we used their lot. Their parking lot is not connected to the hotel but across the street with another lot in between. we were informed we would still be charged for valet to use their lot. I recognized that it was my choice not to allow them to park my car due to Covid so I let this go. After driving all day and even further to go the next, I needed to rest. The woman who checked me in was polite. Our first room, 627, was disgusting. There was a smell of cigarette smoke and weed in the hallway. When we got to our room, it was dirty. Clearly a spot clean. The beds were dirty, the floor had giant mystery stains. The furniture looks very beat up and damaged. There was hair from the last guests on the pillows. We cleaned the room ourselves with our cleaning supplies because we were exhausted. Stripped the beds and resolved to just go to bed. There was no refrigerator or microwave in the room. We went downstairs to ask if there was a microwave we could use. The front desk said she would find out and call us. We never got a call. I went to use the restroom and there was a roach in the bathroom and in the foyer of the room. I was livid. I just spent time doing a heavy clean of an obviously dirty bed so I could go to sleep. I immediately went downstairs and after a discussion they said they would switch my rooms. I really wanted to leave as I’m terrified of roaches but it was very late, dark and raining in an unfamiliar area so I conceded. I asked if they would check the next room for cleanliness before they assigned me the room. She said they would make sure it was clean. They moved to room 916. It was the same level of dirty as 627 with the addition of what I can only guess was blood on the sheets. We again, sanitized the room, stripped the beds because we were trapped by the dark/rain. They called me, put me on hold for 10 minutes than a manager came on the line. The manager Brian seemed fake polite and mostly annoyed to take my call. He asked what did he want me to do about it as if I could solve the hotels problems. He asked where did I see them and said the roaches were likely brought in by other guest but they didn’t see them. Then asked if he could inspect the second room to see if it was as i described. I told him because of Covid i was not interested in him coming in my room. I told him I took a picture of the roach if they need to see it. At that point he seemed very annoyed and asked well do you want a third room? I said I’m tired, i plan to take a nap and leave. That they “checked” this room before they gave it to me so I’m guessing they’re all about the same. He said no I think they’re better rooms. I asked why I didn’t receive a better room on the second go if that was the case after I moved out the first one? He did not have an answer. I told him I was far too exhausted to hop from room to room and that I would be leaving in a few hours. He couldn’t tell me why the third room would be better and why i hadn’t received it the first or second time to give me the confidence to pack up again. I hope I can get a couple hours If sleep in before we leave. We have all the lights on in hopes we have a deterrence for roaches to climb in our bags and hit the road with us. Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. If it’s possible to stay anywhere else, do it. Please excuse spelling and grammar errors, I’m...
Read moreI chose this hotel for its excellent location near Thalia Mara. To date, this is the best hotel I have ever stayed while visiting Jackson, and I definitely will be returning.
In addition to the location, there are several things that make this hotel a standout. I booked a Club Level single room. Benefits of this type of room included access to a small lounge where a very good complimentary breakfast (buffet style) is available in the mornings, as well as drinks and munchies later in the day. The lounge is very beautifully designed as you can see from the pictures I have attached with the review.
The room was spotlessly clean, and the “heavenly bed” was a real bliss. Knowing that a bed cannot meet every sleeper’s style of preference, this bed served me well because it was plush and soft on top, yet with some firmness below. When I actually laid on the bed, it did not feel firm at all, yet adequate amount of support there was! The ceiling is very high, and I LOVED how spacious it looked! The bathroom had luxurious design and light, and included a walk-in shower with a rain shower head. I asked for another set of shower robe, and the housekeeping staff on my floor delivered within 5 minutes of my request. My "do not disturb" sign was always respected. There was a complimentary mini-bar that was replenished daily; I have never seen this in another hotel in Jackson, and it was a particularly nice feature that I hope they will always have. There was a facility for making Starbucks coffee and tea. The wall mounted large screen smart TV had a number of useful features.
Alas, not everything was completely flawless. Late in my stay, my wife and I have visited to enjoy the heated indoor saltwater swimming pool. Perhaps because we were the first people to use the pool for that day, the temperature of the pool was not as warm as we wished. We called the maintenance via telephone available by the poolside, and soon after, two gentlemen came by and have increased the temperature of the pool for us. How wonderful! We loved the fact that the pool did not have any Clorox smell and feel! My wife, who cannot swim and had terrible skin breakouts in Clorox based swimming pool, enjoyed the pool very much!
While we were enjoying the snack in the lounge, my wife realized that she has lost a piece of earing somewhere along the way. As we were tracing back our footsteps, looking for a small piece of metal, the concierge staff did everything she could to find the missing piece together! (Even a guest there started to look for it with us as well!) We eventually found it, and we really appreciated the staff to go over and beyond the call of duty to help us in whatever way she could (and guest).
Having said that, my overall experience was very good indeed, and the staff was especially helpful and friendly. The hotel is beautiful, and you can appreciate much of attention-to-detail designs. I would recommend this hotel to any of my friends or colleagues who are visiting Jackson. I’ve visited many hotels in cities all over the united states, and I would definitely mark this hotel as one of my...
Read moreLet me start by saying that the weekend staff was awesome! The manager BeiBei and front desk personnel Tracey went beyond the call of duty to welcome me at the hotel and to see that my needs on their end were met in welcoming fashion.
Now on to the negatives. As a frequent Westin visitor, the first thing that I notice about the hotel chain is the smell. The machine that produces the white tea aroma that fills the lobby was down and it was noticeable. That was kind of a bummer. The manager was able to get the machine back and running shortly after me noticing there was no signature lobby Westin smell.
Upon entering my room, the bathroom toilet looked like it had been previously used, except that it had not. I immediately flushed the toilet. The water that filled the toilet bowl was still coming out a dingy brown color for the two days I was there. I'm from the South so maybe this was just a Mississippi River thing. The bathroom sink water was fine in regards to coloration but refused to get remotely cold no matter how long you let it run.
My first night there, I ordered food for myself to pickup at 1045pm from the restaurant downstairs. I was told to be ready to pick my order up by 11pm. I sat at the bar for over 25 minutes before Gwen (who is very nice and the best bartender ever) told me that my order had not been prepared yet. The restaurant manager came out and told me that he was going to go check on my order himself. More waiting ensued...My order finally came out smelling delicious in the bag, and I then made my way back to my room. I open the bag, no utensils to eat my meal! I had to leave my room and go back down to the elevator to the restaurant and request eating utensils. Gwen, the bartender gave me complementary soda for my troubles.
Overall, management and staff were more than wonderful, but a few of the problems I ran into, made my stay uneventful. This hotel is relatively new. Maybe they need to work some of the kinks out because so far, its not up to Westin standards. I love the Westin brand. I don't think I would recommend this...
