10/10 would skip this restaurant.
First of all, the restaurant is loud. Very loud, and I love a good energetic restaurant but this was overkill. The open kitchen is kind of a turn off with how there’s an expeditor and bathroom paper towels everywhere. It’s like a glimpse into a Taco Bell.
Nicely styled restaurant but really are you at a restaurant for the decor or the food? For me I could be a hole in the wall with the best food, so let’s get down to the real reason this place is abysmal.
Chips and salsa - I don’t know if they make their chips in house but they are flavorless, and stale. The salsas would be better if they whipped out some Newmans own. They all tasted like canned tomato sauce with a dash of Tabasco.
Tacos - we got the 5 individual for a hefty $35. Each somehow tasted the same of dry corn tortilla and weak flavor at best of mole. Each tortilla fell apart as they were picked up, how you supposed to taco!? Honestly, I’m not boujee when it comes to a tortilla but these were bad. The proteins (steak, brisket, and fish) added very little to the crumbling tortilla and they were over cooked and had no flavor. We were convinced to try the mushroom taco which was a variable slop of veggie smothered in sauce which OF COURSE could not be eaten with the poorly structured tortilla. Big ew on those.
Quesadilla - why I paid 18$ for some cheese idk. Honestly, it wasn’t the worst but nothing to impress and it’s hard to make cheese taste bad. It did come with guac that was so sour and mush I discarded it completely. It also came with the tomatoey tobasco salsa. Rice and beans were grossly over cooked and inedible
Drinks - here’s the only shining star. Drinks were good, great even. But a couple could use some balance to the sweetness but that’s me being picky. However despite good drinks I’d still never come here again.
This place is just for the insta posts, don’t come here to...
Read moreMy husband and I joined another couple for the Oaxaca wine dinner last night. We were welcomed by the very friendly wait staff, treated to complementary French 75 and Oaxaca old-fashioned cocktails with a passed hors d’oeuvres. The first course was a nice combination of textures with uni complemented by pickled pears, mini radish, sesame-shoyu encased in a corn puff pastry. It went wonderfully with the Tempranillo Blanco. In fact all the wines paired perfectly with the food offerings. The foie gras was truly a delight – I think my favorite course, although the short rib was very flavorful & wonderfully counterbalanced by the roasted whipped celeriac. The granita intermezzo was a nice cleanser before the grouper. I found the grouper to be slightly dry, but my husband enjoyed my piece so that was great for him! The olive oil cake had a wonderfully subtle flavor, although it was too subtle for my husband to enjoy as much as I did. Ben and the chef )I’m sorry I can’t spell your name!) nailed the pairings. We really enjoyed it and will gladly return for the next one you have! PLUS the price was very reasonable! Atmosphere is 4⭐️ because it got really loud! Service got 4⭐️ because my husband & I were overlooked several times when they were serving new courses & wines. Sorry. I had great photos of the foods, but they got deleted just before posting when my...
Read moreSince moving to Jacksonville three years ago, we have been searching for a great Mexican restaurant that the whole family can enjoy. Oaxaca quickly became one of our favorites. The food is consistently outstanding. We especially love the ceviche de atún, roasted oysters, pulpo a la parrilla, and aguachiles. Our daughter really likes the barbacoa tacos with pico de gallo served on blue corn tortillas, as well as the desserts. Every dish is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The drinks are excellent as well, with a great selection of cocktails that perfectly complement the meal.
What truly sets Oaxaca apart is the exceptional service, especially from Izzy. One evening, as the sun was setting and a refreshing breeze finally broke through the usual hot humidity, we wanted to sit outside. Unfortunately, all the regular tables were taken, and the lounge seating wasn’t ideal for our daughter. Just as we were about to head inside, Izzy noticed and, without us even asking, offered to bring out a proper table and chairs. He rearranged the patio to create the perfect spot for us, all with a big smile.
That was our first time meeting Izzy, and he has been amazing every visit since. Friendly, attentive, and always happy to help, he makes each visit special. Oaxaca has truly become our go-to spot in Jacksonville. We cannot...
