I recently had a disheartening experience at Apna Jax, a store I have frequented as a loyal customer for quite some time. As a regular visitor, I expected to be treated with respect and appreciation for my patronage. However, a series of incidents left me feeling undervalued and disrespected, prompting me to share my review.
During my visit, I purchased a whole lamb from the meat section. The staff promptly weighed and cut it for me, packaging it into smaller portions. I was given a receipt to present at the cashier. However, upon reaching the cashier and providing the receipt, I was taken aback when she insisted on weighing the entire package again, despite the added boxes and plates. I politely explained that it had already been weighed at the meat section, but she dismissed my explanation, stating that she needed to verify the weight due to concerns about potential hidden meat from quote unquote " indian people " I am not even indian ! This unnecessary repetition of the weighing process made me feel frustrated and unappreciated as a customer. Eventually, the weight matched the initial measurements, confirming my earlier statement.
Unfortunately, a similar incident occurred with my husband, but this time involving dates. The staff had to open a sealed box to check if the dates had been swapped. It is utterly ridiculous to subject loyal customers, who come specifically for halal meat at a premium price, to such suspicion. Those who actively seek halal products do so out of religious and ethical considerations, not with the intent to steal or deceive.
Seeking resolution, I approached the owner/ manager Kaiser to express my disappointment with the way customers were being treated. However, to my dismay, he supported his staff's actions without acknowledging our concerns. I suggested the implementation of a system where customers could verify their meat at the meat section to avoid such issues, but he claimed that insufficient staffing made it unfeasible. It is disheartening to witness a lack of willingness to address customer concerns, especially when we consistently spend a significant amount of money at the store on a weekly basis.
As a result of this distressing experience and the inadequate response from the store's management, I have made the decision not to return to Apna Jax. There are numerous halal stores in the area that prioritize customer satisfaction and treat their patrons with the respect and dignity they deserve. It is disappointing to see a store I once considered a reliable option fall short in meeting customer expectations.
Overall, my recent encounter at Apna Jax left me feeling undervalued and disrespected. I hope this review serves as constructive feedback for the store's management, encouraging them to reevaluate their customer service practices and prioritize building trust and loyalty among...
Read moreWe had such high hopes for visiting this place. We drove 1 hour from Northwest Nassau County because we thought we FINALLY found a real Döner Kabob instead of the pita wrapped gyros we have to endure here. So, we took the drive. We found a parking spot. Watch out, it's TIGHT with very small parking spots. It's not very well thought out. But the outside looks wonderful. When you go in it looks inviting and NOT from Jax. LOL! I mean that in a good way. We went through the grocery store. You can find some nice things in there if your mind is open to exploring. Everything is neatly stocked. Lots of frozen, fresh and dry food. The butcher, yes, butcher, is Halal which is similar to Kosher. Now to the restaurant. As I said, we were excited. We left excited. Once we opened our food and found sad looking sandwiches all of the good will left. The bread is what drew us in. It is not what went wrong, although they could grill it for about 30 seconds less. The problem is that they only put meat, some very unloving chopped up tomatoes with the ends on my wife's sandwich alone. Mine had chopped up tomatoes. There was some "Garlic Sauce", it was not tzatziki as we were expecting when my wife asked the young lady if it was Turkish and she said yes. It was NOT. There was no red cabbage. It was sad. But the kicker is that my "beef" gyro sandwich tasted like lamb. That isn't bad, if you're expecting it. But my wife's chicken gyro sandwich tasted like lamb as well. This tells me they don't clean the grill between the different proteins. Which is bad chef skills to say the least. But it didn't stop there! We also purchased some Pistachio Baklava. It looked wonderful! Again, we were disappointed when we bit into them and they had a goat flavor!
We won't be going back,...
Read moreI moved to Jacksonville about a year ago and after craving some of my moms cooking i thought id check out this Indian/Pakistani restaurant. Im not usually a fan of buffets at indian restaurants so i thought id head up there for dinner. I sit down and the place is empty besides the waiter that greeted me right when i walked in. Large open dining area with music playing in the background. I ordered the Karahi Chicken with Naan bread. Also i thought, what the hell and ordered some Pakoras (fried battered vegetables). The food seemed to me to be made fresh which was definitely a plus. My pakoras arrived first and were pretty good,,I just wish maybe it had a little more salt or flavoring but otherwise made hot and fresh. When my main meal came my mouth started watering. The karahi Chiken was the star of the night. I dont know if it's because i havent had Indo-Pak food in a while or what but it was the best ive eaten in a while. The chicken was tender, flavorful, and plentiful. The naan was warm and not rubbery or dry. Got some Chai to go which was a little sweet for my taste but still good. The cook came out and spoke with me a little bit telling me about jacksonville and the waitress was excellent. Ive been to an indian restaurant on San jose and that place does not even compare...I would definitely recommend this place and cant wait to...
