As someone who leaves honest reviews — both good and bad — I don’t take writing this lightly. I’ve been coming to Birdies for years. I grew up in Jacksonville, and this place used to be one of my favorite spots. But after the way I was treated during my most recent visit, I’m completely done with this bar.
The service was terrible from the moment I arrived. It took forever to get a drink, and the bartenders seemed more interested in socializing than actually helping customers. But the real issue came at the end of the night.
I went up to the bar well before last call — there were over 15 minutes left. I was standing directly in front of the bartender. She looked right at me, then deliberately skipped me and served two other parties down the bar. When she finally acknowledged me, I told her I wanted a drink — and instead of just making it, she immediately got nasty and said, “I’m not making anything else.” I told her she literally skipped me — which she did — and she got aggressive.
At that point, I absolutely went off. I wasn’t rude for no reason — I was fed up with being treated like I didn’t matter. I’ve never had a bartender be that disrespectful and confrontational over something so simple. And instead of owning her mistake, she escalated even further and called security — because I asked for a drink I should’ve gotten in the first place.
This wasn’t just bad service. It was a complete lack of professionalism and basic decency. I’ve supported Birdies for years, even after moving away. But this was the final straw.
If you’re looking for a spot with good energy and staff that actually respects paying customers, look elsewhere. Birdies isn’t what it used to be — and clearly, they no longer care about the people who’ve been loyal from...
Read moreBIRDIES!!!! 5stars! I have been a frequenter of this establishment since 2014 and I have not written a review until now. I have been on a Thursday night, Friday nights and Saturdays. Back in the day, it was a cool eclectic place with the guests being the main reason I went. I recently visited Birdies this past Friday night after a comedy show (look for my review of The Comedy Zone) and it was PACKED! I do not know if it's a good thing for people like me who like small intimate places to sit/talk and perhaps play a game of pool or two and DANCE! Also, I noticed that the caliber of person had changed as most were in their 20's. As I am old enough to be these guests' mother, I could have easily felt out of place. However, I enjoyed myself by stifling my judgement as an ageist. The same DJ playing a variety of great music from the decades, great staff and a feeling of safety had not changed. When you are in the Duval area and wish to check out a place with no cover (21+ people), this is the spot for you. They even serve FREE water in a cooler by the restrooms in the back. Yes, it is wheelchair accessible and parking has never been an issue for me. I always seem to find a spot nearby. The BEST part?...
Read moreHey everyone,
Mt wife and I just moved to Jacksonville from Chicago, Atlanta, Memphis then Jacksonville. We went to Birdies, and as a club consultant, Birdies would be a magnificent club if they catered to the crowd with their music. My wife and I went on a Friday night and the music was HORRIBLE.. As a club consultant, my job is to make your club bring in more revenue and to thrive. However. the DJ went on intermission and left the music scene dry for about an hour..No go on a Friday night..Also, when it's time to change the music, it's time to change from Techno to whatever the crowd is jamming off..
I watched the bar and watched the crowd walk In and right back out the door..It's the music! Change it if you wanna see REVENUE! I have been helping clubs to get their REVENUE up for years..Trust me..It's definitely a great club with lots of potential! I will be trying it out again to see if any changes will made..If not then, I'll be seeking other places to...
