We stopped into this restaurant for the first time this afternoon for lunch. The atmosphere seemed pleasant, and only 2 tables were occupied so when the hostess told us to sit anywhere we decided to sit in the cute booth areas in the back. As soon as we did, a waitress hurried over to us and said, "You have to take your shoes off to sit here." We were a bit caught off guard because her tone was firm, as though we should have known and were deliberately disrespecting a posted policy (there was no sign).
Feeling a bit embarrassed, we commented that we didn't realize that because it just looked like the regular floor down there. She told us curtly that it's a special polished floor. As she stood there staring at us and waiting for us to remove our shoes we asked, "OK... Should we...leave them under the table?" She scoffed and said, "No! why would you leave them under the table? There are cubbies." (Again...we've never been here. This may be a known thing but it was new to us.)
She left (making no effort to hide the irritated expression on her face), and another waitress came over. We were feeling kind of weird at this point and unsure if we should stay so we hadn't opened our menus. This waitress questioned that and said, "Normally people put their menus in front of them so that they can open them, so is there anything I can help you with?" and placed our menus in front of us. I decided to mention, gently, that the first waitress had been a bit rude with us. She simply said, "well okay...I am sorry about that and I can talk to her about that but is there anything else I can do for you?"
After she went back to the other room we heard LOUD chatter about the exchanges... And cursing!! And decided to leave. Tried to go quietly out the back door only to be shouted at by all four or five staff members.
Geez we IMMEDIATELY felt unwelcome here.
Honestly there is so much to be said about customer service and just general decency. Don't immediately default to rudeness... There was a better way to let us know!!!
We won't be giving this place...
Read moreI used to enjoy coming here with family or friends and have always had a pleasant expirence but recently things have changed and I will no longer be coming here. The service is horrible and no matter how much I enjoy the food I can not get passed the service. We were seated almost instantly but it took around 15 to 20 minutes for us to be seen and our drink orders taken. When the drinks finally came, our Waiter had thrown a bundle of straws on the table and had left saying he would be back in 5 minutes. He was not back and one of the Sushi chefs had come sometime later and taken our order. Another family had been seated near us and in the time it took for our food to arrive they had left because no one had come to help them. We had all ordered Clear soup and we got that with our Entres. Multiple things were missing from our order and my sushi had felt almost warm. My nieces wanted rice but received it towards the end of the meal. We were communicating all of this to another Waiter who saw us.
It was a whole battle to get boxes and Checks and as we were leaving our initial Waiter had almost knocked over both my sister and my 7 year old niece with no apology. This horrible service seems to have come with an influx of doordash and uber eats orders. These online orders are being prioritized over sit-in customers and I have seen this happen to many restaurants I've frequented. It is sad because I really did love this place but I'm leaving feeling angry and stressed when all I wanted was to enjoy good food, service,...
Read moreBasically, there was a roach in my soup... I came here on my birthday for sushi with some noodles, my usual craving. It was my first time here and from the start everything was off. We had to ask other employees for the waiter to come back to our table to get our order since they kept overlooking us and serving the table near us or saying he'd be right back. There were only three tables occupied, including us. Despite this, the waiter was kind. After waiting in the painfully cold restaurant, our sushi came and it was alright. I got the Fuji Special Roll and Mexican Roll. I could tell the yum yum sauce was watered down, it didn't stay on my sushi and dripped right off. I also ordered Nabeyaki Udon. The soup was not the tastiest and served with a lid from a pot that definitely did not belong in my bowl. As I continued eating I noticed a bug in my soup.. I let one of the employees know who was not as apologetic as I anticipated. I was offered another soup but I declined. I got a refund for the soup and paid for everything else. There are many places to eat in Jacksonville, and despite the high star ratings, I'm telling you to save yourself the regret and go...
