Located in the vibrant West Ridge neighborhood, Sabor A Café offers a tantalizing journey through the rich culinary landscape of Colombia. However, amidst the savory delights and mouth-watering carne asada, a noticeable disparity in service leaves a sour note in an otherwise flavorful experience.
My visits to Sabor A Café have been a mix of culinary delight and disappointment. The menu boasts an array of Colombian classics, from hearty parrillada to delectable arepas con queso, each dish bursting with authentic flavors that transport diners to the streets of Bogotá or the coastal towns of Cartagena. It's evident that the kitchen takes pride in crafting dishes that pay homage to Colombia's culinary heritage.
Yet, the dining experience is often marred by inconsistent service. While some patrons receive attentive care and warm hospitality, others, like myself, are met with indifference and occasional rudeness. It's disappointing to see such a disparity in treatment, especially in a neighborhood as diverse as West Ridge.
As a Black diner, I couldn't help but notice the difference in how I was treated compared to other guests. The lack of acknowledgment and at times dismissive attitude is concerning, raising questions about inclusivity and respect for all customers.
While I haven't personally addressed these concerns with management, it's evident that there's room for improvement in ensuring equitable treatment for all patrons. Despite the service hiccups, Sabor A Café remains a culinary gem in West Ridge, offering a flavorful taste of Colombia that's hard to resist.
In conclusion, if you're in the mood for authentic Colombian cuisine, Sabor A Café delivers. Just be prepared for potential inconsistencies in service. I hope to see strides towards inclusivity and equality in the future, and reluctantly, I will give them...
Read moreWhere do I even start. I made a reservation online for 7 people on Friday for Saturday. Saturday morning someone from there called me to confirm the reservation. NOT ONCE did they ask me if a kid was part of the reservation. We were going there to celebrate my sons birthday. Granted I had never been there so had no idea about the place. We get there and they said they had no tables. Like huh?? I said we made reservations. They looked and almost seemed offended they found my reservation. They gave me a table in the back. It was 7 pm. At 705 my whole party had not fully arrived. They were literally parking. They asked us again. Did we make reservations? Like seriously??? Then asked us like 3 times if we wanted to order or if we wanted to wait for the rest of my party. Like how impatient are you??!! We said no we will wait. They are literally parking and it's not even like 710. THEN the best part is yet to come. They see my 6 year old son and say they do not allow kids because of the music or something??!!!. Like excuse me ??!! I said I made reservations. Someone CALLED me to confirm and noone said a thing about kids ?! The 2 employees leave and come back and said they will make an "exception" for my son until 10 pm. As if you're doing me a favor. Nooo way was at this point going to spend my money there. I understand they are a busy restaurant. So they could care less about customer service in an era where covid happened. They should be grateful to have customers. But you know once you are popular I guess one customer doesn't matter. I will never go again. We walked out. Went to Garcias a few blocks down and had a great time and they should take pointers from them on how to...
Read moreWe went on Friday night with my son and husband. It was our first time there and my husband had been there many times before. We were greeted warmly and asked if we had a reservation. When we stated that we didn't, they quickly found us a table.
Here is where this restaurant was a game changer for us, our waitress. We have had wonderful waitresses before, but ours was exceptional. Her name is July (pronounced Julie). She was on point regarding everything. From what dish we wanted to anything regarding what we needed throughout our dinner. It wasn't that she was just there, ready to help, but customer service is natural to her. She wasn't overly engaging to the point you know she's doing it for a good tip. Her tone of voice, her suggestions, her jokes, she was absolutely pleasant. My husband and I are in the customer service business, and we thought she was amazing and I strongly believe she needs to get a raise! (Hello! Management?)
The food was very good. We ordered meat plates and my son ordered grilled chicken with fries. We were all very happy with our meals. We've been to Las Tablas which is a similar restaurant to this one and they are both very good. I would definitely give the food a 5 star by itself.
We were also there for their live music and it was boleros night which was delivered extraordinarly by Gonzalo Cordova. The songs were beautifully played throughout our time there.
I would recommend this restaurant on a relaxed Friday night to go out with family, friends, or on a date. It wasn't too expensive and well worth our experience. We will love to return soon, so...
