I was at the "Castle" last Saturday afternoon with a coupon that came with my weekly newspaper. Buy one Combo, get one free. I had a “happy chance” experience. A woman walked in front of me into the building and held the door open for me, I thanked her and went to the restroom. As I left the restroom the lady was standing at the counter so I thought that she was helped already so I stood in front of the cash register and a young lady worker asked me for my order, I told her that this lady was next in line and the lady thanked me.
I waited for the woman to place her order, then I ordered two combos, one combo for here and the other to go. The woman asked me about the BOGO, I told her that I’m ordering one combo for me to eat here and the other combo was for my neighbor. I said that I have an extra coupon if you want to order the same thing, and she said no I already placed my order.
My guess is she thought I was being considerate to buy a combo for my neighbor and she put $8.00 down on the counter and said “I’d like to buy your lunch”. I said to her you don’t have to do that but she insisted that she will pay for my lunch. What a pleasant experience.
When I delivered the combo to my neighbor I told her about my experience with the lady, at first she thought I was joking but I said it was no joke. I’ve had people buy me a cup of coffee before but not lunch. You never know what will happen at...
Read moreI recognize that White Castle isn't "gourmet" food by any stretch of the imagination, BUT it does hold a particular niche. With relentless inflation, they have resorted to what all restaurants, fast food and otherwise have resorted to- shrinking portions and rising prices. I recently had my first 1921 burgers. I hadnt had any burger from White Castle in several years. The quality of the meat has changed, the volume has become like a sliver, and my stomach can't handle the grease well anymore. I had switched to the impossible slider, and liked it a lot. But it took so long for them to make it. I tried switching to the fish sliders. Tiny little fish portion for a not tiny price. You had to wait, and if they didn't change the oil as quickly as they should, it would taste rancid.
So on a whim, this 1921 burger. First, it looks nothing like the picture from their press release. Second, the lettuce was BLACK and rotten in places. Can we say "salmonella?" Yes, I should have taken it back. Yes, everyone from behind the counter trying very hard to deal with all the drive thru traffic would come out and stare at me with "that look." I was already "hangry" so I ripped off everything but the tiny sliver of meat and ate it. I hope this location can get its act together. There are times you get "that craving." But not if this is...
Read moreI don't usually write Google reviews but I feel like this is worth breaking my routine.
It's not often that I get great service from fast food. I don't like having to go through the drive thru, usually because if you're not ordering off a "number" on the menu the order will likely be wrong. Some thing is almost always not available (and it's usually the thing I want). The food is cold or highly suspicious. And the people who work there are sometimes rude and seem to want to hurry you through (which I understand with quotas, weird hours, rude customers, terrible bosses. I get it)
BUT this white castle exceeds all expectations, not only for a white castle but for fast food restaurants all together. The employees know the menu like they've studied it for years. They are SO nice and patient. My parents have a hard time at times organizing their thoughts and occasionally I stutter and trip over my words. They handle it like pros and always are transparent about different combinations so you can get the best price. "Yes, you CAN replace the fries with onion rings", "You CAN customize your castle pack if so and so doesn't like this".
And our orders haven't been wrong yet. :) I'm not a fan of fast food, but I think the quality of the service and the kindness and professionalism will keep me coming...
