For 2.5 years, we’ve longed for our old Thai favorite in NYC (Thai Market in the UWS).
We’ve tried nearly a dozen Thai offerings in Hudson County since moving out here a few years ago, and every time, we’ve been left missing Thai Market… Until now.
This is our second time picking up from Thai Plates (a 20-25 minute drive that I will happily take).
The first time, we ordered a green curry (chicken), pad Thai (beef), and mango sticky rice. Each was very good to great. The mango sticky rice was a little more indulgent than our norm for Thai, but it was a nice sweet treat at the end of our meal. The pad Thai was very good — balanced but with the full flavor profile of the dish. The beef was excellent — flavorful and well cooked, even though I didn’t dive in until at least a half hour after it was packed up. The green curry, to me, was the standout — a hint of heat with the herby, spicy complexity of a green curry, balanced nicely with the right amount of acid and perfectly creamy from the coconut milk.
Our second visit was just as good. We ran it back with the green curry (chicken) but swapped out the pad Thai for a pad see ew, which was the best I’ve had in quite some time.
The interior is bright, clean and seems comfortable enough for a casual bite. In every interaction, the staff has been extremely friendly and seems eager to please.
I don’t often leave restaurant reviews, but I want to spread the good word so this place stays in business. I forgot how much I enjoyed having good...
Read morethis is a cute hole in the wall. the staff is nice and the place has a retro vibe.
the large plates just seem like a normal portion. to me, “large” implies shareable, but it’s only enough for one person really. i got a small plate and two large plates to share, and this was the perfect amount of food between two people.
the papaya salad was tasty and had a lot of layered flavors, but i found the bottom to be really salty. the drunken noodles were exactly what i was looking for. the spicy thai basil was a little spicy but that’s a good thing when it comes to thai. the egg was nicely cooked and runny when you cut it open.
i enjoyed the flavors but found them to be a bit powerful. i wanted a thai iced tea as dessert but ending up getting it for my meal because i needed more balance overall.
the mango sticky rice is good because it’s not too sweet and the coconut condensed milk added a layer of flavor that felt right.
i enjoyed this spot but it gets a little noisy with all the banging around in the open kitchen at the end of the night. it’s still a nice place if you’re in...
Read moreI have to say I was extremely impressed with the food at Thai Plates! We have been looking for a good Thai spot in jersey city and this place hit the spot! We did a pick up order and ordered chicken fried rice that we got spicy as well as pad ka prow with egg and chicken also spicy! And no lie if you ask for spicy, it sure was spicy! But still had a lot of great flavor! The prices were slightly higher than what I expected but honestly you get a lot for what it’s worth! The Thai iced Tea was on point! We loved the aspect that it was in a can but still had so much flavor!
The food was ready quickly too which was great for pick up!
The location is very convenient as it’s right next to the dmv as well as the path (only a few minutes away walking distance). The only downside I noticed is when I walked in it was a bit smoky in there! You can tell they are definitely working hard! Hopefully that can be fixed in case you wanted to sit down and eat in which they have a few small tables.
Otherwise great place and excited to have you all in...
