Veloce Specialty Sandwiches is a hidden gem in Jersey City Heights that first caught my attention years ago. I initially received the wrong delivered sandwich, but their swift correction and excellent service won me over instantly when they delivered the right one.
Located at 457 Baldwin Ave, in Jersey City Heights, Veloce offers an impressive selection of cold sandwiches, including Ham, Pepperoni, Hot Capocollo, Provolone, Cherry Peppers, Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onion, Olive Oil, Red Wine Vinegar, Salt, Pepper, Oregano, and Red Pepper Flakes. My personal favorite from their hot sandwich menu is the Chicken Parmesan, featuring a crispy Chicken Cutlet, Homemade Marinara Sauce, Fresh Grated Cheese, and Melted Mozzarella—so good but I suggest more Marinara Sauce should be added. You know how it is when you take that first bite and the sauce drips out and you lick your fingers? I must say the sandwich was warm when I opened it at home. However, I had to order one of each! Let me say they were delicious. Highly recommended.

Their rating 10 out of 10
Since their service and selections meet my approval, I have no other choice but to give it a 10 out of 10. Why? Great large selections, with great front of the house service with a smile and the food is excellent. Stop by and tell them that Chef Rene Hewitt...

Both are incredible. Both are extremely special.
You know these people care about what they do when they physically write very nice little sentiments on the wrappers. Things like, “Yum!” Or, “We hope you have an amazing day :).” I mean, seriously, nobody does that, and if they do, it often feels like a disingenuous post-meal-receipt afterthought. The people at Veloce are literally so kind, that they will send you off with your food, and extremely sweet and thoughtful messages.
As for the food, I am blown away by it. Most Italian sandwich shops always cater to the junk food side of the business. Veloce’s sandwiches are very clean, and they taste way more authentic to me than most places. I always want one thing when it comes to food, and it’s freshness. Veloce maintains absolute freshness all around. No ingredient is overdressed, over seasoned, etc. Every bite tastes exactly like what you wanted on the sandwich. I don’t eat meat, and it’s difficult going to Italian places for their veggie subs because the veggies are NEVER fresh and simplistic. In general, most sandwiches are always made in ways to satisfy the Instagram appeal. Veloce sandwiches are definitely massive, and appealing to the eye, but they’re done so tastefully (no pun intended) and the TASTE is actually what matters.
I honestly can eat the sandwich I get (#9 EXTRA BROCCOLI RABE) every single day. It’s just so good, and never feels like I’ve had too much. In my opinion, it’s the most perfect sandwich I can recall eating in many years.
I’ve written like 3 reviews in my existence, but Veloce brought the urge out of me to write this. These people deserve all the business that comes to...
Read moreUpdate 09/2025 Veloce’s price changes over the last year are a bit less of a surprise considering the current times. But I’ve been ordering from here almost every week, at least 2-3x a month and they suddenly changed a menu item completely. The chicken “nuggets” used to be sizable chunks of chicken breast comparable to boneless wings - and were around $10 or $12 for a ten piece. Loved them so much!
Now youre basically getting a ten piece of tiny fast food chain chicken nuggets for the same price. For that I’d be better off getting a whole bag of nuggets at the supermarket or a 20-30 piece nuggets elsewhere that are the same size for less money. Very disappointed. Sad to see price increases and corners being cut in so many neighborhood spots. :(
Original review: Everything about these subs was great; subs weren’t soggy, bread is super fresh and tasty. I had an eggplant parm sandwich which had a great balance of sauce and fillings. I’m super stoked to try a new sandwich each time I visit, cause they have such delicious combos. Definitely some of the best Italian cold cut sandwiches as well I’ve had!
The only cons I had were the prices according to the size of the sandwich. I know the pandemic has led to prices of ingredients to go up everywhere, but I’ve gotten a sandwich from an Italian deli (the one aforementioned) for the $14 price, and it is twice as large as the sandwiches from Veloce...
