When you want consistently good Tex Mex food and service at an amazing price, go to Chuy's.
The folks who work here have it all under control, and I have had many good dining experiences here.
A good while ago, I decided to take a chance and order the Comida Deluxe plate to-go, which comes with two cheese enchiladas, a crispy taco, chicken floutas (fried), two tostada chips dipped in queso, Mexican rice and refried beans.
This is a great dish for me because I can never make up my mind, and I get to have a little bit of "everything," but I had only ever ordered it for a dine-in meal. I was worried the food would be soggy.
Oh, how wrong I was!
Their expertise was on full display when I got home and unpacked everything.
The cheese enchiladas, Mexican rice and refried beans were packaged in their own (sturdy) tin-foil box, so none of the sauces could make the crispy items soggy.
The taco, tostadas and floutas were packed separately in a ventilated box. The queso, guacamole and sour cream all came in their own containers, so that everything stayed crispy and warm.
They also included a huge bag of chips, ranch-jalapeño sauce and salsa.
Their thoughtful packaging made a huge difference in the quality of the food. I've ordered this same dish to-go several times now and have never been let down.
Today, my husband and I dined in for lunch and had the absolute best time.
I switched up my order and opted for the burrito with fajita steak and Boom Boom sauce.
Oh my goodness, it was packed full of flavor: The beef was tender enough and well seasoned, and the Boom Boom sauce was a cheesy bit of semi-spicy (to me) heaven.
Our server, Tara, put our experience over the top.
Due to a large party in the room where we were seated, we ended up at a table that they weren't sure who was going to be the server.
Tara realized this and the fact that we hadn't been greeted yet (we were only there for a couple of minutes), and took it upon herself to stop by.
She started our drink order (two iced teas) and said she'd get them for us and bring us some snacks while she figured out who had our table.
First things first, calling chips and salsa "snacks" was so utterly delightful for me that it nearly brought me to my knees. Who doesn't love snacks? And I can't think of a more fun way to say "chips and salsa." Long live snacks!
Second, Tara demonstrated real care for guests when she chose to greet us, get our drinks and snacks started, and tell us that she wasn't sure who'd take care of us but would find out.
And when I say "chose," I mean it: Most folks, if they even noticed a table hasn't been greeted yet, would just walk on by and tell the hostess. But not Tara. And that went a really long way toward feeling cared for as a guest.
As luck would have it, Tara ended up taking our table.
She was on her game the entire time. She beamed with friendly professionalism, checked on us and chatted with us often enough that we wanted for nothing, but not so often that it was intrusive.
At the end of the meal, she, again, showed us how incredibly perceptive she is by not only offering us to-go containers for our leftover entrées, but also for our second basket of chips, ranch-jalapeño sauce and salsa, all of which were almost full. And then she offered to bring us two teas to-go, which I was planning on asking for but didn't have to.
Let me tell you, Tara is a true hospitality professional who takes ownership of ensuring guests have a great experience, even when she doesn't think a table will be hers.
I worked in or adjacent to hospitality for more than two decades. I know how restaurants work, and that's sometimes a blessing and sometimes a curse. Suffice to say, I know what I want from a dining experience, and I know what to generally expect depending on where I'm eating.
The qualities Tara demonstrated today are impossible to train someone on: You either have them or you don't.
Tara is a top-tier human being, and we are so happy to have crossed paths...
Read moreGig driver perspective and one from somebody that spent more than 12 years in the restaurant industry. I started out as a dishwasher and by the time I was done I had served as a KM( Tx Roadhouse) and Managing partner( outback)
This location absolutely needs to do better. I loathe having to leave negative feedback.
This place is often times busy but I showed up yesterday at 2:30 in the afternoon and there was exactly two people eating inside. I pulled up and called inside like we're supposed to I proceeded to wait 25 minutes. In that time, six other people came and left. It was a long wait for queso and enchiladas. I walked in the to go door and the to go girl immediately blew up at me. This girl ( glasses and blonde hair) is usually one of the rudest people I've run across and it's clear she does not like her job. She should look for other work. Let me go ahead and point out a few things that may not be known. The manager found the food right after that. That tells me it was done and sitting around.
Please don't declare war on the drivers. We're your customers and we're delivering to your other customers.
Second, keep in mind that I get paid regardless if I deliver hot or cold food. Chuy's,on the other hand, may lose a customer. I will always let the customer know what's going on. I totally understand restaurant volume and I would never burn a restaurant if they were legitimately busy. That said, if you treat me bad, I'm going to let the customer know exactly what's going on and that you don't care about their order. I almost always have them call you when it's an excessive wait.
In extreme cases I can just cancel the order altogether and Chuy's will eat the cost and not get paid.
I've been around for a little while and I can tell you with 100% certainty that the driver isn't going to be blamed. You are.
Let's try to work together a little bit better. I totally understand that you can become busy. I have no problem with that whatsoever.
My problem is the incompetence and attitude of your to go person. Wrong guy to challenge...lol
I'm an independent contractor and do not work directly for any of these gigs. My patience with attitude problems is...
Read moreMy mood was crushed here by the two teens working the front door…I had called in advance ask questions of wanting to see if I could drop off flowers and a dessert cake prior to me and my wife having a late lunch early dinner things for her were a bit stressful guess you could just say she had a ruff 🐶 day lol so the man I am I was trying to cheer her up.. so after the phone conversation with the teens at the front door I delivered two dozen roses and a dessert cake to the same teens working the door that I spoke to on the phone gave my name multiple times we arrive 30 minutes later together they knew exactly who I was as we both had a couple of drinks and dinner plates I stalled by ordering one more drink my waitress even came to the table because she saw me looking around. She was awesome and on top of her game. Thank you so much for your service, but I was looking around to see if anybody was going to bring the cake and flowers out. sadly, I had to get up from the table and go to the front to tell the two teens. Hey can you please tell my waitress I would like to get the flowers and the cake delivered to our table now she said oh yes, of course never notified my waitress I had to ask for the check and then ask for my flowers and cake. It was super embarrassing and I was super disappointed, not at my waitress. She was amazing but as the two teens representing the Chuy‘s franchise multiple times I spoke to them multiple times I asked they never delivered a message. This is not somebody I would want representing part of my Chuy’s franchise as simple as delivering a message to a staff member needs to be reevaluated for their position I was even side eyed by them twice and never apologized to just careless, friends in corporate office will be...
