I'm not one to leave reviews online usually, but figured I'd share my thoughts on our dinner here tonight. Little bit of background, we have two littles 4 & 2 years old and we often meet the grandparents out at Dive Bar for dinner once a month or so. That's also really the only time we ever eat out.
Felt a bit adventurous tonight and wanted to try something new, first thing I'll mention off the bat is service attitude was excellent! Everybody we met was friendly, handled our many small requests with a smile, and really just zero complaints there...
Now I don't know exactly how long the restaurant has been open, maybe 1-2 months, but we just left this Sunday evening feeling like they had a lot of kinks to work out yet. Maybe that's to be expected and I'm judging too harshly, but bunch of little things added up to me feeling like it was worth my time to type this review.
To kick things off, there was some confusion about the beer my dad saw available online (and we had to inform and then remind to bring after first round of drinks were delivered), lemonade ran out for the kids but they didn't mention until dinner arrived and no alternative option provided besides mentioning they were making more (just bring out some other juice as a backup at that point lol). This next bit is right out of a sitcom. We sat outside on a cold windy S.Flo Winter evening and asked for the propane heaters to get rolling. We literally had 5 heaters within 10-15 feet of our table all turned off. Our nice waitress got the first one going, we asked for one more and she graciously even moved the next closer to our table and tried starting but quickly realized it was out of gas. She tried another one and same story. I offered to move another one over to us and after moving she tried igniting and same story lol.
We told her thanks for all her efforts and to go on with her other tables and literally 5min later the one lit heater went out. Now I'm not saying we're are some super privileged people who expected to have heat thrown at us while sitting outside on a windy cold evening (it was 5:30pm, well before sunset but we had dressed accordingly), but if you're going to have all these heaters then be prepared to refill/stock the propane! I just felt like such a jerk for making our server go through all the trouble of trying to light all these and no luck. Not her fault, not our fault, but still a waste of time and just mental gymnastics with nobody being happy at the finish line.
Dinner progressed, food was tasty but slightly hard to justify the price (trying not to let the new Jupiter price norm impact my rating), we certainly noticed our server running around to many tables but felt like maybe she had a bit too much on her plate as we had to order a 2nd round of drinks and ask for sauces from other servers/people delivering food (who often also walked by/past our table at first, which was more funny than annoying lol).
Overall decent food, friendly service, quite a few wrinkles to iron out IMO, happy we went but I want the best for our town and this just left something...
Read moreLucky Shuck is located in a beautiful area right on Jupiter Inlet.
I arrived at noon on a Tuesday and there was a line almost out the door and a wait of 10-15 minutes for an outside table. I was happy to wait though because I was able to walk around on the boardwalk and dock behind the restaurant and take some pictures. The hostess took my phone number and seating preferences and I got a text as soon as my table was ready.
Most of the seating was outside in a shaded area overlooking the Inlet. The restaurant itself was bustling and crowded, but the outdoor ambiance could not have been any more idyllic and it wasn't too loud since so much of the seating was open air. In addition to enjoying the beautiful turquoise water, one can watch pelicans fishing and boats passing by. Most of the outdoor seating was shaded and it was partly sunny and 80 degrees with a light breeze. The Jupiter Lighthouse also overlooks the back of the restaurant from atop its perch.
My server was very busy with the crowd and several tables but nonetheless was very friendly, helpful and stayed attentive to my needs. There were 4 types of fish on the fresh catch menu that day and I opted for grilled flounder. The fish was cooked perfectly and came with fresh green beans and a small serving of tropical salsa. I also got the crawfish mac and cheese for a side which was good but I preferred the fish. The iced tea was also excellent; strong flavor and a nice dark color. It paired wonderfully with the fish and the warm sunny day.
Also, a parking tip for others: there is a large public parking lot only a block south from the restaurant. I parked there and would suggest that based on my experience. If you drive all the way to the front door of the restaurant, you encounter a dead end and it was an entrance to a valet service for the business next door (at least it was the day when I was there). Fortunately, I was able to turn around without causing a traffic jam or getting boxed in and quickly realized passing by the lot...
Read moreEDIT: Lucky Shuck invited us back to make up for our first experience. We had oysters - I loved the passionfruit mignonette, it’s great when there are different options for oyster toppings - and the devilled eggs to start. Delicious. For mains we had a ceaser salad with shrimp, and two catches of the day: wahoo prepared jerk-style and onion crusted grouper. All dishes were enjoyed but my grouper was definitely the best - the sauce and the sweet mash were a delicious combination with the flaky and meaty fish. All were beautifully cooked. We enjoyed key lime pie and beignets for dessert, and overall the service was very friendly and accommodating.
We’re glad we had the opportunity to return to Lucky Shuck for a better experience, and appreciate how they took extra care of us.
Disappointing. We’re regulars at Captain Charlie’s and wanted to try Lucky Shuck for a change, having heard good things. Our group of three arrived for our reservation and were seated right away. We were looking forward to hearing about the catch of the day. Twenty minutes went by and no one even looked in our direction. Another group of three were then sat right behind us - they were immediately welcomed by a waitress, attended to with water, asked for their drink order and given the specials. I listened in, trying to plan ahead so that I might order everything at once to avoid more service delays. The waitress left our neighboring table and four more people passed by us without even a glance in our direction. With little hope that our evening would improve, we gave up and left. My dad stopped by the hostess on the way out to let her know and she just said, “sorry.” Back to...
