Update! Good as ever! They've added tiny tacos to their menue and it was not a mistake! When riding cross country on a motorcycle from Richmond, VA to the Grand Canyon, we've depended on many others to recommend places of interest, decent lodging and, most of all, good food. We stopped for gas in a tiny town and asked where to get a good bite. Several local customers and the 2 employees unanimously said Big Ala Burgers. We did not hesitate. "About 7 miles that way", in the direction we were headed. Off we roared! We found Al's easily, in the middle of a pop up hail storm. Pelted and soaked we made our way in... We all ordered the Rustler with cheese and some waffle fries. They offer a "special sauce" for 15¢ that we had to have. Gotta say, that Rustler (1/4 lb hand patted beef) was one of the best burgers ever and I don't think it was just cause we were starving, road weary and drenched. The "special sauce* was only thousand island dressing and some mayo, but it was perfect with those amazing fresh cut waffle fries. We are hunkering down here in Kanab, Utah for a couple of days and I know we will stop in again.

Great little hole-in-the-wall, quaint place. Food was great, definitely better than chain fast food. Service was great, didn't take long, everything was pretty reasonably priced. I had a buffalo burger (which is buffalo meat not like a hot sauce burger) and I had it big red style (ham, bacon, and cheese). It was delicious but my husband got the same thing only in beef and they didn't taste significantly different. We liked that the drink sizes are old-school, not the mega-American upsize everything model. Also liked that they have a large menu with lots of options. Each of our kids got a different fry option: regular straight fries, tater tots, and seasoned waffle fries. I tried all and they were good. Each of them got an oreo pack with the kids meal too, which we weren't expecting. Employee was helpful with our order, suggested fry sauce and mentioned the upcharge (which was only 15c). The employees also helped when my daughter used the little coin machine to get a toy and it didn't dispense.

Big Al’s Burger is the kind of old-school, no-fuss burger joint that hits the spot when you’re craving something delicious and satisfying. You pull up, park, and grab a seat at one of the outdoor benches under a covered roof—simple, laid-back, and just what you need for a solid burger experience. We tried: 🍔 Big Red & the Cheeseburger – Both were juicy, perfectly sauced, and packed with flavour. No unnecessary frills, just great homestyle burgers done right. 🥔 Large Tater Tots – Basically adorable mini hash browns—crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Could easily snack on these all day. 🥤 Cookie Dough Milkshake – Thick, creamy, and almost like a Blizzard. The chocolate chips were a bit hard at first, but once it melted a little, it was just right—not overly sweet, just smooth and satisfying. If you’re looking for classic, well-made burgers and comfort food in a chill setting, Big Al’s is a must-try!

I find it funny that this place is next door to McDonalds and kicks their butt daily. Kinda in your face Micky D. I had the Russler and it was great. This is a unique place with picnic tables outside and a retro vibe overall. The menu behind the counter was difficult to read. The one on the counter was also very small print for my old eyes They post a good readable menu outside by the door for folks like me but I of course didn't look at it. The menu is kinda confusing but you just order what you want and they will make it your way. They take pride in creating YOUR masterpiece. I don't know how long they been there but I guess quite a while. They were very busy the whole time I was there. Their burgers are amazing. Perhaps the best burger I have had in quite a while. The bun was heated possibly steamed as it was warm and perfect. I asked them to grill the onions and they were perfect. I honestly wanted to order the shake but resisted. I saw a lot of folks having the shakes. They all looked very happy. I will return for sure. If you want a great burger go here that is where great burgers are born. Great staff great location big RV friendly...

As two moms traveling with three kids (ages 10, 8, and 7), finding a place that everyone agrees on can be tricky—but Big Al’s Burgers was such a hit, we ended up eating there two days in a row! It was so good, we even made the drive back from Page, AZ, just to eat there again. Totally worth it.

The burgers were delicious—fresh, juicy, and cooked just right. The kids devoured theirs without a single complaint (which says a lot), and the adults were just as happy. The fries were crispy and seasoned perfectly, and we also tried some shakes, which were thick, creamy, and exactly what you want after a day of hiking or adventuring.

The atmosphere was super friendly and relaxed—family-friendly without being chaotic—and the staff was kind, patient, and helpful. Even with a bunch of hungry kids in tow, we felt completely comfortable and welcomed.

Whether you’re passing through Kanab or staying nearby, don’t miss Big Al’s. It’s the kind of place that hits the spot after a day outdoors, and the kind of food you’ll still be thinking about the next day (which is exactly why we came back). Great food, great people, and a great stop...

Al's Burger: A Kanab Gem!

If you find yourself in Kanab, UT, and crave an authentic local experience with unique flavors, Al's Burger is an absolute must-try. This isn't your average fast-food joint; it's a local treasure with a dedicated following.

I highly recommend the breakfast burritos – a hearty and flavorful start to your day. For lunch or dinner, the Bison cheeseburger with bacon is a standout. The juicy, high-quality meat sourced from local vendors shines through.

But the culinary delights don't stop there! Don't miss out on the crispy onion rings, the refreshing strawberry lemonade, and the decadent shakes.

Be prepared to wait a bit, as the popularity of this spot among tourists is a testament to its quality. The food is freshly prepared, so patience is rewarded.

The customer service is top-notch, adding to the overall positive experience.

In short: Al's Burger is a Kanab institution. With its delicious food, local sourcing, and friendly service, it's a must-visit for any traveler seeking an authentic taste of the region.

I hope this review captures the essence of your experience at Al's...
