Charros Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Kannapolis

First time here, drove 40 minutes for disappointment.

First disappointment was the chicken taco I received. Looked like a store bought tortilla, basic toppings, nothing authentic about it at all. I wouldn't waste my time or money on those.

Next disappointments were with my oldest daughter and wife. They both ordered the Taco Loco Salad. My daughter ordered the chicken, with no lettuce or tomatoes. When she got it it had peppers, which the menu said nothing about. My wife ordered the beef. It came to her partly raw. She sent it back and opted for no meat.

I ordered the Barbacoa Ribs which wasn't what I expected. They seemed more like prepackaged,. precooked ribs that they added sauce to. The added sauce was good. Ribs were not.

My youngest seemed to have the best meal which was the kids tenders.

Food orders stopped there, wasn't going to consider ordering dessert with what we just received.

It also seems once you hit a second glass of drink they don't bring out any more.

Now on to time to pay. Our bill was almost $80 for very mediocre food. The biggest disappointment of the night. No comp or even a slight discount for my wives raw food. Still charged us almost $17 for what was a beef Taco Loco Salad, that was changed to just vegetables after receiving her beef raw!

We did receive two explanations for the raw beef. 1- It was just from the tomatoes. And after which I can only assume was a manager that came out to our table. 2- It was just seasoning.

Anyone can tell raw meat from the two above explanations.

I would never return to this establishment, and would have never came to begin with if I would have read the reviews they currently have. I normally do, but I pass this place twice a day coming and going to work. It looked nice and was at a decent location.

Looks were very deceiving with this one.

My first time visiting here. The family had been here several times previously and raved about the food, sweet tea, and most everything. First off I noticed is there were a lot of employees from my own personal favorite Mexican restaurant, El Amigos. They are excellent employees so they were very familiar to me. The food was great, as expected. My only negative comment is that the test wasn't very sweet, and actually kinda bland. My family also said it wasn't up to the normal great tasting and sweet tea they had had there previously. Maybe an off night for the tea brewer(s). Maybe for some not as big a deal but for here in NC, the tea plays an important part in the overall dining experience. However, I'll be back.

So, since my first review above, we've been here many times. Food is almost great every time. The service wasn't top notch as usual tonight, especially after getting our food. Very slow for anyone to return to our table. Got our check and never saw our server again to pay for it. Had to go to the cashier on leaving. They were busy but not so busy that there were two wait staff just standing at the kitchen almost the entire time we were there. They had their reasons for the slow service I guess.

Update as of today's visit, Sunday 6 Aug 23. Good service, food, and good times. No complaints by anyone.

Update 10/29/23 Tonight was the first time in several weeks since my last visit. A couple things changed. The atmosphere is a little less awesome since the original side room temperature is now much warmer since they expanded. Their AC system is designed for the new airflow patterns and original side is greatly affected negatively. They raised their cheese prices and give you less on the meals so now the meals aren't near as tasty as they used to be. Overall experience rating goes down when impact changes...

I came in at 7:10pm by myself, first thing everybody that knows Mexicans u get your salsa and chips soon as u walk in the door. It took almost 20 mins for me to get that after being seated, then finally the young lady ask me what I wanted to drink, I got that, now she did come back and check on me after she bring drink I said I'm fine right now give me a min. The min turned into 30 mins so I'm looking for her no sign. I put my money on table for my drink and left, mind you it's like 830 at this point. I get to my car and I guess the so called manager came out holding her phone up saying u wanna pay, I said hell no i wanted to eat but I left her money on table for drink, the manager said uh ok sorry( very nonchalant) instead of saying my apologies, can I get u something right now or maybe offer u a discount the next time u come in,now that's great customer service but ppl give these titles to these ppl that just want it for the name and ignorant they don't know how to be a manager. Had the girl went and checked on my table she would have saw the money but she never went , I can see where I was sitting at from my car and I knew she never went and the fact u had the manager come out instead of the waiter going to check on your table as u should shows bad customer service. I really liked this place because of the patio area and they had great service prior but the service there now sucks, I could have went to los acros or casa grande and had a wonderful time with great service and one thing about them they mess up they gonna fix it and the manager makes sure of that. So charros get your stuff together because y'all suck and I want be back. Walking out with a phone like I had a $100 bill my drink was $4 and I left her $7 she didn't deserve...
