Mi Pueblo Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Kannapolis

Had lunch here a few weeks ago with some friends. All 3 of us ordered the same lunch special. We each got 3 soft tacos for $9.99. The tacos included your choice of chicken or beef and only lettuce and cheese. Tomato and sour cream was an extra $1.99.

When I told the waitress I wanted this special she asked if I wanted chicken or beef and I said chicken. She then proceeded to ask me if I wanted the chicken shredded or grilled. I asked if there was a significant difference. She told me the only difference was the shredded chicken had tomatoes and onions mixed in. I decided to get the grilled chicken since I don't care for tomatoes. My friend got the same thing.

The tacos were fine. Nothing special but were good. I wouldn't say a significant amount of chicken but it was fine. When I got the bill there was the $9.99 charge for the lunch special and an extra fee for chicken that said $2.99. My friend and I were hoth charged this fee. I asked the waitress what that was for and told her the lunch menu stated the tacos included chicken or beef so why were we being charged an extra fee? She disagreed and acted like the charge was normal. After I kept pressing the issue she left and got a menu and pointed out at the bottom it says substitutions will be made for an extra fee. I told her we didn't get any substitutions and she said the grilled chicken was an extra $2.99. What?! That doesn't even make sense. The 3 tacos INCLUDED chicken and SHE asked me if I wanted shredded or grilled chicken. When I asked the difference in the two she NEVER mentioned any kind of fee. If she isn't going to mention there is a substitution fee to get grilled chicken she just shouldn't even mention there's a choice!

I expressed my frustration about that and she was just dismissive and rude about it. It's not even about the extra $2.99. It's misleading and she was rude. It's like they want to charge more for the meal but have to find a sneaky way to do it. She never offered to remove the fee since it was never discussed beforehand..which would have been the right thing to do! I told her next time she should warn her customers there's a fee if she is going to give them the option like she did us. She didn't seem to care at all, walked off and never apologized.

Came to this place since we pass it all the time and never go in. Decided one saturday evening that we wanted to stop in and get some food.

Walked in to be greeted by no one. The hostess came over after 5ish mins of waiting. No big deal, it was saturday and it was busy. Got seated waited 10mins before someone came by and took our drink order, we werent ready so the waitress left and came back 10mins later to give us our drinks. Minus the beer we had ordered. We ordered and the appetizer came out before we got our beer, so I proceeded to telling her about it and she said it should be out any min now. My guess is that she forgot to tell the bartender we ordered a simple Dos Equis beer.

After another wait we got the beer and shortly after that the food. Once the food finally came out after waiting about 30mins, my lady points out that the beans look like it has been sitting out. Sure enough they were basically as cold as ice. She couldnt even eat it. I wasnt happy about this.

Overall I would probably give this place another chance since the food isnt half bad and it is close to us. The only thing this waitress was quick about was giving us the check and getting us out of this place. Oh and I had to ask for a refill. Service was horrible at this place. It would be better if they could get a hold of their staff and make sure they take care of the people paying...

Old review at bottom Today we decided to go back and give this restaurant a second try. -Food just as tasty as last time (4 people, no tortillas offered, so it must be upon request? ) -got soft drinks and 1 tamarindo agua fresca, it was really tasty this time -hostess was helpful in accommodating us to our desired table, our server (Jocie) was very very nice, the place was quite full (lunch time) yet she made herself available to check up on us quite often -ticket arrived and it was very normal, no added tip, so we tipped our server based on her excellent service.

Changing my review to 5 stars ⭐️ glad to have eaten here, will definitely visit again.

Old review starts here, glad today’s experience was much much better:

-Great really tasty food (no tortillas were offered at any point) -Agua fresca (they only had Tamarindo at the time,Monday around 2:00 pm, not natural ingredients and the taste was quite bad) -Our server was not necessarily in the greatest mood today :/ (no big deal, we all have bad days) -When our ticket came out, I noticed our server had already added the tip in the ticket @ 18% for a party of four, I questioned it, she claimed her manager did it, I asked to have that taken off as we always tip in cash. She did, we did tip her $10 in cash.

I wish the service was as good...
