Recently, I come to this branch occassionally to get out of the house and work on my computer for a few hours or even half a day.
The staff are always nice to me. When I go to use the restroom, I ask one of the staff at the counter to watch my computer for me. They put my computer behind the counter to keep it safe -- very obliging.
Usually there is a female manager when I arrive, and a male manager shows up for the night shift. All the managers are very efficient. Big city fast food places are usually pretty bad, or mediocre at best (not so in small cities and towns where humans are still somewhat civilized), but this branch is highly efficient. In fact, it's possibly the fastest fast food place I have ever been to.
The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 stars is the cleanliness of the place. The bathrooms are pretty skanky for a McDonalds (which....marketing secret....built its brand partly on restroom cleanliness). And the tables are not often cleaned off. In fact, every time I am there, there is one sweet young hispanic lady who goes out to clean the tables. Only her. The managers need to mind this. (And the owner needs to see that this young lady is promoted.)
This branch gets a lot of freeloaders and downright strange people asking for weird things and arguing with the staff about whatever thing ("I didn't get my fries when I orderered two days ago, and I want a refund" or "I ate here last week and want to get free refills today; I brought back my cup"). The managers always deal with these people well. They don't yell at people who are yelling at them; they professionally resolve the issue. Imagine that.
The female managers are really professional. The owner of this place knows where to find them, or is just amazingly lucky. The male night manager I always see is kind of loud and talking about slightly odd things in a loud voice. This is social-media-absorbed 2022, and the manager is young, and this is a big city, so thoroughly normal younger people are....well....uncommon. But it's okay. The guy is really efficient, and always kindly watches my computer when I ask him.
For a big city in 2022, I think it would be hard to beat the efficiency of this McDonalds. For a big city.
If you want some entertainment, come sit at this branch for a couple hours and watch the freeloaders and insane-type people who come to this place. (This area of Main Street K.C. is a goofball magnet, truth be told.) If I wrote down all the things I have seen, you would not believe me. It's like there is a big neon sign above the store: "Welcome freeloaders, insane people, and people who want to kill their bf/gf in the parking lot".
Owner of this branch: please go to the other branches and tell the owners how you got these amazingly efficient managers to run the place. I'm curious to know the secret myself. Get them to also mind the restrooms, and you will have burger...
Read moreI don't order McDonalds very often, but I just learned I could use their app to get deals on coffee daily. I went to this location to buy two coffees (one iced and half-sweet, the other black and hot) and a sausage bacon and cheese sandwich.
There was some obvious confusion between communicating with the attendant, ordering from the app, and reading the screen because I had used the app to create an order code for the iced half-sweet coffee, but then I tried to order another iced coffee, and the attendant thought I was confirming the one from the order code. I tried to correct the second iced coffee to be a hot black coffee, but she thought I was still talking about the original iced coffee (the only one on the screen, which I misunderstood), and changed the iced coffee to black/hot. I added the sandwich to the order, and then, finally, I understood that there was only one coffee on screen and asked for another coffee.
When I brought up that I wanted an additional coffee, iced/half-sweet, the attendant angrily asked me, "Which is it?" and I said, "both, one black/hot, one iced half-sweet/vanilla. " She spoke a pacifying "ok" and, still seemingly upset, said, "second window."
Before I moved forward, I heard her say over the speaker, "Es Puta," and I can't say I'm very impressed with such a lack of care. As a grown man, I would expect her, a grown woman, to know that misunderstandings happen easily and to not take it personally. I didn't take this personally, I'll bet she's constantly frustrated working at McDonald's. Then, once I got to the window, collected and paid for my food, she said it again to the window clerk, who laughed and repeated the statement. This time, I did take it personally. the food was too salty, like the attitude, and the drink was too sweet.
Overall, it was awful service, probably the worst in the city.
Next time, I'll be going to a different McDonald's, if...
Read moreIs there some kind of prize that McDonalds employees get for screwing up the most customer orders? Ask almost anyone after they eat at any McD's and they'll probably have a tale of screwed up orders with items missing, something made incorrectly, etc. Yet somehow, people keep going there. Mass idiocy! Granddaughter wanted a happy meal, and I tried my best to dissuade her from it because I knew disappointment would follow, because it almost always does with McDonalds. I decided to place the order using their infuriating app to be sure each item had what we wanted. Can never trust the person on the speaker to get the order right. Ordered a Bacon Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese. Get the slop home and start passing out the poorly made junk food, then I open my box which has a taped on label saying Bacon Dbl QPC. The bun is all caddywampus, shredded lettuce is all over the interior, and since I had to straighten it all back the way it should have been put together, I discovered that there isn't even a hint of bacon on this poorly prepared burger. The expected disappointment hits! How do you leave out the very first ingredient in the name??? Typical. Had my granddaughter not wanted the cheap Halloween bucket with her meal, I would have been able to go to any other place which is 100% guaranteed to have actual food and much more likely prepared correctly. So sick...
