A piece of Vietnam here in Kansas City!
Bambu is a newly opened chained dessert place here in the heart of the Midwest. Located across from KU Med, Bambu offers an array of various drinks, Chès (a delectable Vietnamese dessert in forms of beverages, puddings, and soups), mochi ice cream, crepes, and waffles.
My friend and I visited Bambu during the grand opening. Walking into the shop, I was pleasantly surprised by the modern yet charming decor (perfect for those who love to take pictures, like myself lol). For my first time there, I opted for the highly recommended Passion Fruit Tea. The tea was indeed very fresh and contained real passion fruit! The other times I went to Bambu I got the Thai Tea w/ Boba (which is a free add-on), the Mango Fresh Fruit Tea, and the Pennywort and Coconut Juice. Bambu by far has the best Thai Tea I've ever had! The Thai Tea had a perfect ratio of tea to milk and the sweetness level was superb. For the Mango Fresh Fruit Tea, it was refreshing and had bits of real fruits and basil seeds--yumm! As for the Pennywort and Coconut Juice, it instantly brought me back to memories of Vietnam. The Pennywort and Coconut Juice tasted exactly like the ones I had at the street stalls in Vietnam. The sugar level was again, really spot on and the FRESH chunks of coconut were heavenly. To add, both the Pandan and Taro waffles were delicious! They were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. I would highly recommend!
For the staffs, they were welcoming and always willing to go the extra mile for their customers. I felt like I was never rushed, even during their peak hours.
Overall, Bambu is just simply amazing. From their freshly cracked coconut juice and to their homemade coconut milk and pandan jelly, Bambu is a place that offers the freshest of ingredients for their customers. For those who are looking for a new and refreshing dessert place or for those who want to revisit memories of their childhood, come stop by Bambu! You...
Read moreAs a Vietnamese, I know what che is and it is a very yummy treat. I have never had Bambu before and today marked my first time ever. Walking into the KC Bambu shop, it was amazingly decorated for sure. The place really fits the name and it was just overall very cute. Moving on to the drinks and the dessert, I got a Bambu Combo while my sister had an Avocado Smash. Although their che were not that bad, they were not the best either. The Bambu Combo tasted very bland. All three types of beans tasted as if they have been taken directly out of their containers so they were a little bit hard and not as sweet like the beans supposed to be in che. Moreover, the coconut milk in che is supposed to be more like a milky white, condensed, and sweet but in this case, it was more watery and unsweet. The pandan jelly were a little bit too chewy and so it was a a bit of a challenge to swallow. As for the Avocado smash, it was interesting. The first taste you get is a hint of durian, then a little sweetness of sugar, but the after taste was more on the side of nutty and meaty. It was a bit weird and so I did not try it again afterward. Overall, these two drinks are the only ones I tried and so I am not really sure of the other flavors but I had another friend who also bought one today and complained about KC Bambu's che to be really bland and not sweet. She said Atlanta and Chicago Bambus' che were pretty sweet and good so this might be just a silly mistake of forgetting to add sugar/sweetener. Afterall, it was only their opening day so it could get better. I don't know if there will be another return, but I think that if I do come back, I would try their fruity che and not the ones with coconut milk/coconut water. Everyone's taste bud is different so definitely give this...
Read moreIn the last 3 days, I have gone to Bambu Desserts & Drinks and each day have been served with HIGH QUALITY items and AMAZING customer service. I've order the Salted Caramel Frape (perfectly blended, strong coffee used - no chunks of ice, percentage of sweetness is able to be shared with the staff when ordering), Salted Caramel Iced Coffee (strong coffee used, amount of ice is able to be shared with staff according to your preference, percentage of sweetness able to be shared with staff when ordering - delicious), Hazelnut Mocha hot (strong coffee, smooth NOT gritty, perfect sweetness - I ended up ordering 2 of these during one trip because it was so good), Strawberry Fruit Smoothie (perfectly blended, no chunks of ice, delicious, perfect sweetness), Mango Fruit Smoothie (perfectly blended, no chunks of ice, delicious, perfect sweetness), Taro Lover (my friend substituted the coconut milk with regular milk) she loved it and went back to Bambu the next day for more and took her family with her:). In addition to this, I am ADDICTED to the chocolate chip cookies sold here! This establishment is clean and offers a lot of seating. Parking is available behind the facility. I highly encourage this business! The only thing I didn't like are the jellies that are in some of the drinks - but I am American, so it is just because I am not sued to these and didn't like them. I am sure if I asked, that the staff at this business would make my drinks without the jellies. Overall - I highly recommend this business - I am heading there right after I finish submitting this review 😊! THE ONLY THING I WILL RECOMMEND is that the large sized hot beverages are way too small (see picture)...the cold/iced drinks are large but the hot beverages are more of a...
