Disappointed. Houston restaurant week 2018 kicked off this week and my wife and I decided to stay local last night. We have only been to Alicia's one time before and was not really impressed so we thought we would use this event to try their best food. For restaurant week they are offering a three course dinner for $35 dollars, that is a fair price for what you would expect to be a great meal. Each course had three items. For the app. my wife picked the seafood cocktail and i picked the Avocado relish, which was basically a deconstructed guacamole. The seafood cocktail had too much tomato sauce ( we think it was just ketchup and Worcestershire sauce) and the relish was, like i said, deconstructed guacamole. Not impressed with the first course. For the second course my wife had the sand fish and i had a chicken dish. the fish was cooked well, but the scallops and shrimp that accompanied it were over cooked, but the rice and steamed vegetables were very good. My chicken dish was a well cooked chicken breast with some sauce over it, refried beans, and Spanish style rice. The food overall was bland and slightly over cooked. We asked for the dessert course to go, and i cannot comment on them because, frankly i don't think they will get eaten. The waiter did ask if there was a problem and we were honest in the fact that the food was just not that good, we said the same thing to the manager when he stopped by. Its just our personal preference. I know that there are at least five other Mexican food restaurants within three miles of Alicia's as i have eaten at all of them. While its not the worst in the area, I would not put them in the top three. I see plenty of positive reviews and I have no complaints about the ambiance or the staff (maybe a bit slow for a Thursday night), but the food is just not that memorable and with plenty tastier food...
Read moreI'm editing my review from 4 years ago.. Bug issue alert! My husband and I had a rare night to ourselves, so we decided to have a date night and go to Alicia's. We have obviously loved coming here in the past (previous 5 star rating) but our experience this time was far from what we usually experience. We had ants crawling up the wall beside us and on our table. When the waitress came by, we mentioned the bugs and pointed them out on our napkin. Our waitress said sorry, offered up her boss, (we didn't ask for him, but sure, we'll talk to him) and said she would bring us a new napkin and left. She didn't come back until our food was coming out. I had smashed more bugs in the meantime and continued to put them on my napkin. We asked for the manager at that point because he hadn't come out. Our waitress took the napkin, finally gave us a new one, and 10 minutes later, he came out. He informed us that there wasn't anything he could do, they have bugs, and a pest control company would be coming out. I mentioned I was afraid of the bugs climbing up into my food. He asked if we wanted to be moved to another table (there were only 4 tables in use at the time) so we did. They immediately sat another couple at the booth we were at! After all the bugs we complained about! Also, the amount of dead bugs I saw along the windowsills at the new table we were at was disgusting. So we barely saw our waitress, she never came by to offer us refills, the manager just didn't seem to care, and the place was dirty. I can't see us coming back here after all of that.
Original review..
Our waitress was very nice and attentive. The margaritas and food were delicious! We'll be coming back...
Read moreMy husband and I are very disappointed with the lack of empathy that Alicias “to go” operator and her manager’s (JOSE & SAMUEL are names we were given) showed. I placed an order on the phone for my husband to pick up on his way home from work but noticed they failed to have the order correct when he arrived. We live 7 mins away. After he got back home from getting the refried beans that were missing I decided to call out of frustration since our food was already cold and he had to go through the inconvenience of driving back. The purpose of our call was to get an i’m sorry and for them to show empathy and do something for us (coupon, free appetizer etc) to show they care and that customer satisfaction comes first. Instead, the operator put us on hold, checked with her manager(s) SAMUEL and JOSE according to her and they told her to tell us to go back in person to talk to them for a third time because they were busy. Are you kidding me? For the average middle class consumer of alicias, a free appetizer and/or coupon won’t brake their bank, but it shows they’re willing to do something, take a loss or cut into their profit by doing something for the client to show they care. The results were the complete opposite. Highly doubt we will be going there again since they seem to believe that the good to great mexican food that they serve will keep their business going and put customer satisfaction/appreciation to the side. To add , we order from here 2-3 times a month and it’s not the first time our order is incomplete. It’s not just the food you serve that matters but the way you...
