Southland Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Katy

Dive bars can often be fun, and they are often attractive due to their lower prices. Sometimes, however, they can come up short. A dive bar that falls somewhere in the middle is Southland Bar and Grill.

Looking at the positives, Southland Bar and Grill is certainly the place to go if you want to grab a drink or two for a low price. It’s going to be difficult to match these prices anywhere in the Katy area. The beer selection is lacking when it comes to craft beer options, but the prices are tough to beat. They also have abundant free parking and a nice outdoor space for enjoying the fresh air when the weather is agreeable.

But Southland Bar and Grill also has a few areas where improvement is needed. One is the food. They serve food only on certain days of the week. If they at least had a food truck on site, I could forgive this oversight, but they do not. Another issue is the lack of climate control. A portable AC unit simply cannot do the trick. They need to invest in better heat/AC control to make the visit comfortable.

Still, Southland Bar and Grill is a good place when you want a bar that is completely non-pretentious and welcoming to all. It could stand to be improved, yes, but considering the incredibly low prices and other factors, it has enough going for it to squeeze out a three-star...

Very first time I’ve been to Southland in six years and told I can’t pay cash but it’s all credit now after I pulled out cash twice out of an ATM there there Because I didn’t want to be double charged the food was excellent. Dale is always been excellent with his food, but I never expected to be told that it straight card now not cash. Why do you have an ATM don’t make sense. This bar when I first came to it six years ago has changed tremendously. I know of many times the bartender never got paid. They would have the bartender digging out in landfill for a volley Court and seven different owners never on the same page liquor not being purchased, etc. bartenders not their owners walking out and saying drinks are on them places I’m surprised can’t keep...

I'm giving southland 5 stars because, even though we popped in for only an hour, it was the most fun we had in our night. The bar is tucked away so unless your actually looking for it, you'd have no idea it's in the area. Which I love. When you get there, the atmosphere is warm, fun and welcoming. We were greeted by their awesome bartender Angela, who made us great drinks the whole time we were there.
