We came to Babins for happy hour at 3:13pm until 4:20pm on 03/24. A young lady in a green shirt who was working the bar approached us and got us started. We ordered a frozen marg and a miller lite. Everything was okay. A Second Lady who was black, lightskin black with red hair to her shoulders approached us and said she was helping the young lady behind the bar because she was busy. We understood and the black woman proceeded to get our food order. I told her I wanted Two orders of the fried shrimps from the happy hour menu and my spouse got the catfish order with fries from the main menu. Everything was cool, we were enjoying the food and I realized that I haven’t gotten my second order of fried shrimps. The lady behind the bar comes and check on us and asks if everything is alright I tell her that I was waiting on my second order of Shrimp. She said okay let me check on that for you. After a little wait I get what I’m assuming is my second order of friend shrimp from the happy hour menu. All is good I’m finishing my shrimp, I do notice that my first order of shrimps was more than the one I had just gotten. 1st order I had 7 shrimps and then the 2nd order had 4 shrimps. I didn’t say anything because I was already full. So I asked for the check and noticed there was 3 orders of fried shrimps and I tell the waitress with the green shirt that I only ordered 2 orders of friend shrimp from happy hour. She apologizes and scratches one off. We then get approached by the black lady again explaining to us that because I ordered 2 orders of friend shrimp that she combined it in one plate and that I had asked for another order when the waitress had checked on us. I WAS NOT MADE AWARE THAT MY TWO ORDERS OF SHRIMPS WAS COMBINED IN ONE PLATE. If I would have known I would have bothered to tell the other waitress that I was missing my SECOND order of shrimps. The black lady dropped the ball by not communicating to me that it would be combined. I still paid for the 3 orders of shrimps but that was very distasteful of the black lady to not...
Read moreThe restaurant is part of the Landry's group. The family went for a late lunch. Not very impressed. This was the 2nd time at Babin and the 1st time was over a decade ago and now I remembered why I never frequently visited anymore. The waiter was friendly and greeted us with free French bread and butter to start with. We ordered appetizers and main meals. Here is my critique on each dishes: Appetizers: Crab cakes - the crab was too shredded and more stuffing so barely tasted any crab. I prefer to taste lump crab meat in my crab cakes. Raw Oysters: not bad for oysters from the gulf. It was fresh and a decent size for the season. Calamari - there were too much crust and it was tough and chewy. We complained to the waiter and he apologized but did NOT do anything more than letting the chef know and still charge us for the dish. At least be courteous to either remove it from our tab or compensate with another app.... Main Dishes: Bourbon Street Pasta - not bad; the pasta was cooked done to my taste. A bit too saucy and rich but something was missing (spice?); includes salad Snapper Pontchartrain - red Snapper topped with brown sauce which contained shrimp, crawfish, crab, mushrooms and a side of rice. Includes salad but replaced with seafood gumbo. The gumbo lacked depth of flavor. Tasted watery. The Snapper was meaty but bland and not enough of the sauce. Red Snapper with seafood brown butter sauce - it was ok but the filet was small. There was a small scallop in the sauce which was overcooked and tasted fishy. The chosen side was red beans and rice which was more of a filler and only took a few bites. Overall for the price, it is not worth it as the food did NOT leave us with a good impression and there was a lack of considerate customer service regarding our complaint on the calamari. We...
Read more3 hour NIGHTMARE. Upon arrival, all was well if you can accept how LOUD and unorganized the place was. We booked a party for eight booked a week in advance for a 40th anniversary party. It QUICKLY went downhill. It took more than half an hour for drink orders and a full hour until the appetizers arrived. Meanwhile, no bread. We were told by the wait staff it was only available “by request”. My main issue is that a manager came by to say “sorry, we have a large party to attend to”. We replied, “are we not a party??” The same manager eventually came over again and apologized because they were “short staffed”. That would have been fine, but when a different manager approached us shortly after with a different story, things got worse. We were now being told that they are backed up in the kitchen (after placing our entree orders 90 minutes ago). Meanwhile, I had visited the women’s restroom TWICE because the service was so slow. Both times I went in there was a minimum of 3-4 servers/crew standing around, laughing, on their cell phones. They glared at me like I was in the wrong for visiting their “precious bathroom”. One server in particular caught my eye because I felt like she never really left the restroom. She was hiding in the stalls, playing on her phone. Worst of all, a personalized cake was brought in for our party well ahead of time for us to enjoy at the end of dinner. What a mess!! No knife to cut the cake, no plates or silverware, which of course, we had to WAIT for. Loyal customers for over 20 years, we were extremely disappointed. The food was decent, at best. Not what I expect from Babin’s. I think I’m done with Babin’s. Not...
