Nando's PERi-PERi — Restaurant in Katy

I took my mom and grandmother to Nando's for Mother's Day and everything was pretty good! The weather was not bad, so we sat at a table outside. The table next to us had small children that were a little too close to me. When the youngest one was moving her arms around, I was a little worried that she was going to hit my drink or something. I moved everything on our table a little further away from them and nothing happened. There was an empty table on the other side of us, so I'm not sure why we were sat within arms reach of a young family. Our order number was number 64, but for some reason they had it as 65 in their system. So, the wait staff would bring our food, look really confused, almost walk away, and then serve it to us after asking what we ordered. When we were almost done eating, one of them came to us with food that we didn't order. We let them know that wasn't for us. We had chicken thigh skewers, peri chips with peri ranch, peri mac, halloumi cheese, honey lavender lemonade, and strawberry rose lemonade. Overall, everything was delicious. I really loved the lemon herb peri-peri sauce. My grandmother usually prefers hotter sauces, but her favorite was the lemon herb too. She kept asking my mom to get her more lemon herb sauce. The chicken was great, but I did have a small piece that was too gristly. I felt like the strawberry rose lemonade needed to be diluted a little bit, but my grandmother enjoyed it. I usually don't like lavender flavored drinks, but the honey lavender lemonade was really nice. We had a nice time and had leftovers to take home. Having come from the UK, I understand Nandos isn’t going to be entirely the same. However this has got to be the worst Nandos ever in the US! This brings me great pain to say this, everything but the sauces and the menu were original. The chicken medium pita was bland and seemed undercooked, the chicken medium wings had a nasty chicken gamey taste, the spicy rice seemed over boiled with no flavor and the stingy seasoning on the peri chips made me realize how bad times are. How on earth did they mess up the perinase? Despite the food the staff were incredible. The food was a massive let down for me and my partner. My wife is American and lived in England for a while and fortunate to experience the authentic Nandos. On this occasion she instantly knew this Nandos wasn’t Nandos! additionally I over heard the diners next to us mentioning the nasty gamey chicken taste they experienced with the wings too. Don’t let this fake Nandos ruin it for you. The real Nandos is the best, it was my so called ‘go to spot’ at least once a week. I think this would qualify me as a Nandos connoisseur! I’ve had the privilege of enjoying Nandos up and down the UK, and again I understand no Nandos in the US will compare. If you want anything remotely close, go to DC and Chicago! My husband and I decided to stop in today and try. I’m glad we did.

The Peri Peri chicken is perfect. The seasoning and tenderness - delicious! It practically melts in your mouth. I did the lemon & herb - but I do want to try a spicier version as well. I had the spicy side Caesar salad. It was good - nice crunchy croutons and fresh lettuce. The sauce was very good on it.

My husband had the sweet & spicy wrap. He said it was so good with the mixture of vegetables (and typically he wouldn’t order veggies), meat and sauce were all perfect together. He chose the hot level and said it wasn’t too spicy.

We shared an order of the Halloumi sticks with chili sauce. It wasn’t our favorite thing, but we tried it. I think sheep cheese lovers would love it.

I had the mango lemonade which was great - it wasn’t overly seeet. Just right and the tartness complimented the mango.

Our experience was great - the atmosphere is very pleasant and everyone greeted us kindly and explained their menu (since it was our first time). We had tried another restaurant that has the same type of menu, but we didn’t have a good experience at that one - so I’m glad we braved it - we will definitely go back and...
