First, I'll start out saying that we have dinner at Fish & Chips Houston every Friday night. We've been going every week for almost a year. It's THAT GOOD. We walk in and it's like being on Cheers, where everyone knows your name! We pretty much sit in the same seats every week, and it is like going to see family. How many restaurants can someone say that about? Fish & Chips Houston is one of a kind. The staff is fun and friendly, as well as super hard working. It's a family atmosphere, for sure. The owners, Craig & Andrina, are the most amazing, friendly, and salt of the earth people. It's a family affair at Fish & Chips, as their children and nephew work with them, as well. All of these folks make us feel like we are family as soon as we walk in the door.
We have tasted just about everything on the menu, and every dish that we've eaten has been excellent. The haggis is really delicious. I have never had it any other place, but I'm not sure that I would want to have it anywhere else, since Andrina's recipe is so tasty. The spice mixture and ground lamb that she uses in her haggis create an amazing and savory dish. The shepherd's pie, and the bangers and mash are two amazing dishes, also. When you get a whiff of the brown gravy that she smothers over the bangers and mash will make you salivate more than Pavlov's dogs! And the star of the show, the fish and chips, are fantastic! We like the cod fish, as it is flaky and tender. The portions that you get are very LARGE, with the fish barely fitting on the plate, and on occasion, are hanging over the edge, they are so large. The chips are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, just like Mama's!
And don't think they're going to let you leave without offering a taste of the sublimely delicious sticky toffee pudding! Definitely the best dessert ever invented!
They also have a full bar, as well as iced tea, sodas, and other non-alcoholic beverages all to wet your whistle!
I could write on and on for days, singing their praises, but I know you need to jump into your car, and head on down to Kemah, Tx and grab a meal at Fish & Chips Houston!
And PS - this is not from ChatGPT. I really do write...
Read moreMost resturants in the lighthouse district struggle to find a self identity without being a corporate chain resturant. For Fish & Chips Houston, it is the total opposite. They are a diamond in the rough resturant that cooks great food from scratch. Their bangers and mash, to me, is one of the best things on the menu. In house made sausage is combined with scratch made gravy that is harmonious to the palate. The slightly salty gravy compliments the natural salt from the pork without being over powering. The curry sauce is another staple as well. Fresh spices are blended and folded into this sauce to show you how Indian culture has an influence on British cuisine. As for the main staple, the fish and chips, there is no where else I will go now. Fresh fish, fresh chips, and no corners cut leads to an amazing product. With that being said, there are some areas of improvement that this restaurant can improve on. The bar seating is lack luster as the chairs are uncomfortable to sit on. I would love to go to this pub and watch a soccer game but would only last through the 1st half in one of the chairs. The bar drink menu itself seems a little unbalanced. It seems to cater more of a gastro-pub style with flair in flavor. Nothing wrong with a menu like that, just seems out of place slightly with the overall ambiance the resturant is giving off. From the drinks that I have tried from their drink menu, they are outstanding! I just don't picture them in a fish and chips establishment where pub style food and atmosphere is your demographic that you are drawing in. Overall, you can tell this is a family owned restaurant. The guests that come in are almost all know by name for all of the waitstaff. The owner/manager takes time to make rounds in the resturant to see how everyone is doing. He is making sure that everyone is actually enjoying their experience in his establishment and not just trying to make a quick buck off of them. Highly recommend to all and definitely will be...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining here with my mother and grandmother who are all from the Uk, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I could sense the authentic atmosphere that is so characteristic of British pubs.
As a true Brit, I have high expectations when it comes to fish and chips, and this place certainly didn't disappoint. The fish was incredibly fresh, boasting a light and crispy batter that enveloped the tender, flaky fillets perfectly. Each bite was a burst of flavor, reminding me of the traditional fish and chips I used to enjoy back in the UK. Accompanying the fish were a generous portion of golden, hand-cut chips that were simply irresistible. I also had the Kids shrimp basket which was wonderfully seasoned and cooked.
The staff at this establishment were simply wonderful. They exuded warmth and friendliness, going out of their way to make me feel welcome. They were attentive without being intrusive, ensuring that my dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. Their knowledge and passion for the food they served added an extra layer of enjoyment to the overall experience.
The ambiance of the restaurant was truly remarkable. With its charming decor, rustic wooden furnishings, and cozy nooks, the pub transported me back to the British Isles. The soft lighting and gentle hum of conversations created a relaxing atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for a casual meal or a gathering with friends.
Overall, I can confidently say that this British restaurant has managed to capture the essence of authentic fish and chips. The fresh and flavorful food, combined with the warm and attentive staff, create a memorable dining experience. Whether you're a fellow Brit craving a taste of home or simply a lover of this classic dish, I highly recommend paying this...
