We came here for my wife's birthday about 8:30 PM after the movies. We had already celebrated her birthday at lunch time with friends, but decided to take advantage of her free birthday Build Your Own Slam. We also ordered the four appetizer combo, and the boneless wings were particularly good. But what stood out for us was the excellent service by the waiter, Christian, who was covering a bunch of tables at our end of the restaurant, moving from table to table, while still attending to us and checking in on our needs throughout our stay. Whenever we asked for additional items, he was quick to bring the items to us, like sauce for the appetizers and butter for the pancakes. Particularly since it was my wife's birthday that we were still celebrating, Christian's pleasant demeanor and friendliness [I think he wished my wife a happy birthday two times] added greatly to our experience. Since we moved to Kendall nearly 2 years ago, this is the Denny's we frequent 90% of the time. Although most of the wait staff has tended to be on the friendly side at this Denny's, Christian's service was particularly notable with the work load he was carrying with all the tables as Denny's seems to often be understaffed which diminishes the service experience that we usually receive, but not in this instance with Christian.
Toward the end of our stay, my wife pulled out her driver's license to show Christian that it was in fact her birthday [without him asking for it as we had already shown him the birthday certificate I had printed], and he looked at the license and told us to bring the certificate up when we checked out. So, I brought it up to the check out counter where your waiter/waitress usually takes care of you. Christian was helping another customer, so the manager, Juan I believe, came in to take my payment. I gave him the birthday certificate and he asked for the ID to verify, so I said my wife had already shown it to Christian, who confirmed that he had seen it.
After I paid, we over heard this manager, Juan, reprimanding Christian [in earshot of us and other customers, which is totally inappropriate - and that's why I reduced my stars from 5 to 4] about the driver's license. I don't know exactly what he said, but I imagine he criticized him for looking at my wife's driver's license BEFORE we paid, but it was MY WIFE he showed it to him on my suggestion, NOT on Christian's request. Christian COULD have chosen to politely tell his manager that she showed him on her own, but that could have been viewed as talking back or being disrespectful to him, so he didn't appear to say anything. In retrospect, Christian's friendliness was even more impressive given that he had to work under this particular unpleasant manager. And, observing this manager's style, after he reads this review, I'd guess that he won't even take responsibility for his inappropriate behavior , but will again blame Christian for my negative review of him - JUST WATCH!!! [Btw, thanks, again, Christian for taking such good...
Read moreThis was actually the saddest experience I've had at a Denny's and on my birthday. I came in at 10:30 with my boyfriend to have a little birthday dinner he wanted to treat me to. But this quickly turned into a bad experience, the staff tonight was not attentive at all the girl with black hair who didn't give us her name had taken our order and got our appetizer to us and proceeded to ignore us for the next hour. My boyfriend accidentally spilled coffee and had to get more paper from the bathroom as she saw it happen and only brought one towle and left the table wet. Order put in by latest 10:50 and I had to go up to the front to get her attention and it's when she realized our food was sitting at the window for who knows how long. When she placed the plates she just threw it all over the table without a care for what is who's and left. The food was cold by the time we started eating. We got up asked politely for those items to be taken off and paid for our two coffees and nachos and left. We will not be returning to...
Read moreTerrible curbside pickup experience. I arrived at the designated time they told me to arrive, and called the Dennys number the receipt said to call to let them know I was there. I ended up calling 6 times. No one picked up. I had to get off and go tell them I was there to pick up my order. Which the lady at the pick up counter told me wasn’t ready. It was 5 minutes pass the maximum window of time they gave for it to be ready but I said ok to please bring it out to me when it was. I go back to my car. 10 more minutes pass. Now we’re at 15 minutes pass the maximum time you were suppose to wait for the order to be ready. I call again and finally someone answers. They acted annoyed at my phone call but thankfully my order was finally ready and they brought it out. The kicker is when I got home - the side order of bacon I paid for wasn’t there and the hashbrowns were almost completely undercooked. Really bad experience all around. Will not be returning to this Dennys and telling other...
