I'm fond of Mexican food because I've lived for a long time in that lovely country. In Miami it's hard to find good Mexican Restaurants because most of them are either fast food or the taste in upgraded restaurants is somehow curved to please the American palate. Somebody recommended El Rancho Grande; a little restaurant located in Kendall Drive and told me that their food was genuine Mexican. So I visited the place and in fact it's a "little restaurant" but at first instance you feel that you’re in the right place.
To begin with , I ordered a Margarita and since I lived seven years in Mexico, I know what a good Margarita tastes like and this one was kind of BITTER, so I thought to myself: if I get to order another one I will ask the bartender to use FRESHLY squeezed lemon juice. Of course they offer you tortilla chips with salsa and, to my knowledge the salsa at this place, is far from being the Mexican "Pico de Gallo" made out of chopped onion, tomato, Jalapeño or Serrano chili and cilantro combined with oil, lemon, salt, pepper and an optional dash of cumin; that's all there is to it, it's not supposed to be mushy tomato with all kinds of spices to make it taste Mexican.
Their menu features Mexican dishes all right but I wasn't able to tell at all if the taste was Mexican because I burnt my tongue and the entire inside of my mouth with the first bite I took of the "Chilaquiles Con Carne Asada" that I ordered. The dish was VERY HOT, in fact PIPING HOT. The environment over there is kind of dark, so I wasn't able to notice how scalding hot was the food; and I took a big bite because I was very hungry! I complained to my waitress and she just said she would convey the message to the chef.
Lastly and since I wasn't able to finish my meal, I decided to order a dessert because I saw the waiters carrying trays of desserts that looked appetizing. Instead, another person other than my waitress gave me the check to pay; that made me feel like they didn't care for my patronage. When my waitress approached me I asked her why she sent the check and her answer was because "she thought I was done eating.' I don't recall mentioning to her anything about being finished and neither had she ever asked me if I wanted dessert.
In short: I'll never go back to El Rancho Grande for lunch or dinner, neither will I recommend anyone to go there . The service and the food aren't that good. Besides, I’m curious to know why the entire staff and the owners of El Rancho Grande, a Mexican restaurant are Colombians. There could be many reasons of course. I like Colombians very much as well as their delicious dishes in fine restaurants all over Miami which I often visit. ”The cobbler should stick to his last!” (¡Zapatero...

The customer is always right just simply doesn't apply to them. The waitress made a mistake on one of the four orders that was brought to the table. We told the food runner that there must be some sort of mistake because we did not order said item. When the waitress came she said "I repeated the order back to you and that's what you ordered." All four of us unanimously told her sorry "no" we ordered something else. Sorry for the inconvenience but we would like for this to be taken off the table and for us to take the order that was originally communicated. We were very humble about it (at first) and wanted it to be resolved as quickly as possible because we were on our way to the movies. Well she didn't like that, and asked us "what is she supposed to do with the other item?" To which at that point I informed her that it was not my problem, and that her arrogance and incompetence, lack of efficiency and initiative is also not my problem.
The manager was called after a little back and forth, which I ended by informing her that I'm not here to argue with her. he offered absolutely no help or no solutions to the problem. Like a bell that can't ring.
I DEFINITELY DO NOT recommend this place for a sit-down meal. It should just be turned into a grab-and-go, cuz the food is actually pretty good. It's sad and also embarrassing because I had never been there in person (same goes for my other three friends) just ordered through Uber and I think it's going to stay that way IF I order...
Read moreWe recently had a fantastic experience at El Rancho Grande Mexican restaurant in Kendall that we highly recommend. The decor of the place was charming and added to the overall vibe of the restaurant. Since the weather was great, we decided to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful day.
As soon as we sat down, our waitress greeted us warmly and handed us the menus. She also took our drink orders promptly. We were delighted to find that the margaritas were pretty good. I chose the mango margarita, while my sister chose the passion fruit. Both were equally delicious and refreshing.
We started our meal with queso fundido with chorizo and the antojitos sampler platter. Both appetizers were delicious and well-presented. The queso fundido had a perfect balance of cheese and chorizo, and the sampler platter had a good variety of flavors and textures.
For our main course, my sister and I ordered the steak chimichanga, which was cooked to perfection and packed with flavors. Our cousin had the pollo con mole, which was also very good and flavorful.
Overall, we were impressed with the food quality and presentation, and we highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great Mexican dining experience. The only downside we experienced was the parking situation, as it can be a bit challenging to find a spot since the restaurant is in a shopping plaza. There's an Aldi next door that attracts a lot of traffic. However, if you are patient enough to look for a spot, you will find more parking on the other end of the...
