Some of the food was ok. Some of it was not. One of us had the baked haddock which was tasty. The summer squash and zucchini was crunchy and fresh. The barbecue pulled pork sandwich was basic, not too hard to make decently, but could have used more sauce. The fiesta chicken salad was a joke. Half a head of romaine lettuce a few tomatoes a hint of onion (supposed to be pico de gallo but definitely not) and a watery, slightly sweet dressing, heavy on the water, that was supposed to be lime taquila vinaigrette. The clam chowder had a decent clam flavor, but that was overpowered by the heavy artificial thickening. It was maybe a little better than a canned chowder. The clincher, though, was the chlorine drinks. We ordered a root beer and some iced tea. The root beer was really just sweet chlorine water. The iced teas were only marginally better, but still left that community pool water taste in my mouth. We sent the root beer back, but paid for it apparently anyway. As for the service, I've had better at McDonald's. There, they remember what you ordered. I was the last of my group (of 3) to order and had the chowder. No more than 45 seconds later did the server come back with it, but had no idea who ordered it. Same thing with the drinks. Two iced teas, one root beer. Not complicated. And we were the only people in her section, so I can't dismiss it on being busy. I have a lot of respect for servers. A wonderful server can make any meal, even with mediocre food, a good meal. But this one had her face in the the tablet they used to place orders and didn't even really look up to see who was talking. Very impersonal. Finally, the plates were being cleared while one of our party was still eating, which made the whole thing feel rushed and even less pleasant. We have been going here for a few years occasionally and I'm sad to say this was...
Read moreI popped by because I always noticed it while driving past, and figured it would be a nice, low-key spot - which it was. I was greeted nicely and sat down quickly, facing away from a window but getting a good view of sports on the TVs throughout the establishment. Water is served in jars and poured out of a big pitcher they give to your table. I had read the menu and planned what to get ahead of time, but one should always check the weekly specials - they have good stuff that nearly swayed me. The servers are willing to let you know the portion sizes, such as the chicken special I nearly got, and I don’t regret most of my choices. I started with the pretzel rods, which are soft and chewy as soft pretzels should be, and served with addictive honey mustard to dip in. I regret choosing bagel seasoning instead of salt, though. My main was the panini, which reminded me of a sandwich I’d get at the Concord Cheese Shop in theory. It was the weak link of my lunch, with its slightly burnt bacon and undetectable brie, but I got it with some absolutely spectacular hand-cut fries, very salty and crispy. Finally, the turtle cheesecake was the most unique dessert I saw on the menu. It was clearly house-made, drenched in caramel and crunchy pecans, and very decadent - but I was unable to taste the chocolate fudge, though it’s very much visible at the bottom. All in all, I see this place as Kennebunk’s answer to Alisson’s in KennebunkPORT - the nice and simple, open-year-round American restaurant of the town. Though, given the choice between the two of them, I’d...
Read moreOur favorite go-to for Tuesday nights out. We’ve been coming here for the last 6 months every Tuesday without fail. Our favorite server is Chris the “bar-master” (that’s what we have chosen to call him)! Tonight, my wife had their seafood trio which had scallops, shrimp and haddock… She said it was awesome, the portion was great… Perfectly baked and presented. I swayed away from my favorite shrimp tacos and chose orange shrimp with rice and a salad. It was as perfect as anything I’ve had there. My wife’s glass of wine was never empty because Duffy’s has trained their staff to always be watching and serving. I can’t say enough good about this place and their team. Make sure you grab their 5?star desert- hot fudge brownie sundae. Make reservations as early as possible but don’t hesitate to show up unannounced because they will always find a great spot for you. Or, give you a comfortable spot to wait. The bar is impressive and atmosphere is perfect. Free on street parking (even in peak hour you should find a spot within 200-300 feet.) Great place to go even if you have difficulty walking. There’s only 2 steps up to get in at the front door and no steps up from the back door.
Their team of pros are working very hard to please you. Tip them well for the excellent service you will...
