I went in for the Taco Tuesday special which is 2 street tacos with rice and beans for $7. The platter itself was OK. The tacos are offered with a wide variety of proteins, including multiple beefs, chickens, churrizo and even tongue. I went with simple roasted chicken. They were served on a single tortilla that was falling apart but otherwise tasted good. They need to use more than one tortilla for these; that's just about what every other Mexican restaurant does because corn torts typically fall apart. The rice was typical generic Spanish red rice that would be better with some extra seasoning and capers, and churruscado would be better still. The refried beans looked cheap; very pale indicating a super fatty bean brand that is typical of the cheaper beans.
If you pair this platter with the $3 beer special they have before 7pm, this ends up being a solid deal. They also make their own in-house hot sauces which I hope you like because outside of that they'll give you either choulua or valentina in packets, not a bottle, if you dine in. I thought their sauces were good but I do like to hit my rice and beans with a cheap vinegar sauce and rather not be restricted by take-out packets.
Everything else here costs extra money. You want american-style tacos instead of street tacos? That's a buck more. Sour cream or guac on the side? That's $1.50. Jalapenos? That's an extra dollar. I mentioned siding this platter with a beer being solid, but if you want a soft drink, that's also $3, which is not good. They offer frescas as well if you don't want alcohol but prices were not listed.
This place was not busy for a Tuesday dinner and is not short of local competitors: there is a free-standing Taco Bell in the front of the plaza it's located in and it's literally right next to a Cici's and both of these places were pretty jamming at the same time. There is El Toro Negro, also another authentic Mexican restaurant a few blocks away that is a little more expensive but makes better food. My server was pleasant and took care of my needs and requests and was the high point of my entire experience.
I think the prices they're pushing are OK but using the taco platter as a standard, the food needs to be elevated more or this place isn't going to stay open. There are too many competitive...
Read moreWell would love to leave no stars but we ALL know Google won't let me. 1st off we came in with a party of 8 so not too large for a Tuesday night especially when we were the only table there. I came in probably 10-15 minutes after those in my party, however, it took 15-20 minutes after getting there to simply place a soda order. Nobody in my party got to eat together, they brought out two meals at a time and simply forgot to put my food in. By the time one of the two waitresses realized I hadn't gotten my food my entire party had already eaten. PLUS I had to send the one thing I got back (which was the soda) There was something black floating in it. My son ordered the kids chicken quesadilla and got chicken tenders brought to the table. The chicken tenders he got where the darkest double fried chicken tenders I've ever seen in my life! Also apparently it was one of the two waitresses first day and she walked out three quarters of the way through our meal. After that the other waitress came out to apologize as we were leaving but proceeded to air the restaurants dirty laundry for a good 5 to 10 minutes. Probably the most upsetting part was the manager refused to come out and even apologize for the poor service we received,. On top of it all the light in the men's room and the one in the hall heading to the restrooms does not work so it felt like walking down a creepy alley that you're going to get jumped in.
But hey, if you like not being able to speak to those sitting directly next to you due to the insanely loud music, if you want no food for dinner, hearing ALL about a restaurants drama, having your child terrified about going to the bathroom, black things floating in your drink, completely flat draft beer then this is just the...
Read moreMartha's Mexican Restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. Decided to stop in for lunch after seeing them advertising online and our usual go to Mexican food place was closed for the day. Slightly disappointed that you have to pay for chips and salsa but regardless we did, the queso was good, it was hot and had a nice taste to it. The salsa itself was very reminiscent of tomato sauce - add some spicy sauces to it and it became edible. My wife got two Mexican steak tacos for lunch and I opted for the quesadilla (I decided on plain cheese). Everything came out promptly which is always nice especially if you're hangry and everything did come to the table hot. The rice was exceptionally bland, the beans weren't much better but the cheese on top atleast tasted of something. The cheese quesadilla was good - but how much can you really complain about pure cheese? 🤣 My wife said the steak tacos like everything else was very bland. I will give good reviews where they are due but this experience was just not that. The staff were friendly so I will give them that however we will not...
