What happened to the Pockets??? Those were literally the best thing to eat in all of downtown Kent. I'm a local business owner, and I'm always looking for something new and delicious to eat and spread the word to my employees. When I first went to Barflyy, I was unimpressed. I got an Italian-Bagel sandwich and it was gross. Wet, sloppy and made no sense why an italian sub was put on a bagel in the first place. I didn't go back for several months because of this, but when I did go back, I spoke to a super polite red-haired girl that told me to try a Power Up Pocket. It sounded funny but i figured why not. I ate one and it was life changing. Seriously. If you can picture somewhere between a calzone and a heated sub, but with the best bread you ever had, and filled with meaty, gooey cheesy goodness, this is it. Was it. I went back the next day and tried the buffalo chicken. Divine. Over the summer, most of my employees began to eat at Barflyy and everybody absolutely loved it. The buffalo chicken dip was also fantastic, and highly addictive. We all had our favorite menu items.
Out of nowhere the menu changed again and it was reduced to pizza, tenders and $2 burgers.
The burgers are gross. I had a company meeting there last month and nobody liked the burgers. Something about the softness of the meat and lack of topping options just isn't appealing. The tenders are still good (depending on who cooked them- Try to go on a day when the red hair girl is working) and everybody in Kent sells pizza, so i'm not interested. But WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MENU???? The Power Up Pockets were literally some of the best lunch/ dinner sandwiches in Kent. So disappointed. Barflyy was really onto something unique and delicious that was sure to spread like wildfire once people learned about them.
Other than that, the drinks are average, the floor is always sticky and during the daytime its dead as a door nail. The games are nice, as well as free play, but even that gets old. The best thing it had going for it was the pockets, and seemingly overnight the menu was wiped down to practically nothing. Nothing worth...
Read moreI am a black male who was wearing a tank top and got denied to be let in due to my shirt being sleeveless because it was bar policy. I accepted this fact and did not say a word, but my friends I was with spoke up because they noticed there were MULTIPLE guys (which was true) who were white who were already let in that did not have on sleeves and they said “it’s not our problem”. They called my friends “social justice warriors” and when a white male who was sleeveless came up to the door they said “we’re going to let HIM in!” And laughed at all of us. They ultimately didnt let him in because they saw us watching after that who they were and werent letting in, but joked about it because they said “yall wanna be social justice warriors so…” I hadnt said a word myself personally at this point, but at this point I said something and they said “well we think its hilarious!!!!”. Denying a black person service and making light of it by joking about letting a white person in is very discriminatory and I think theres no denying that . I don’t know who your bouncers were and I cant even confirm if the other sleeveless white men in that bar had sleeves at first and really coincidentally “took their shirts off so its not a problem”, like they claimed, but regardless this needs to be addressed. The bouncers especially making light of it and making fun of me was uncalled for and very unprofessional. Especially when I didn’t even say anything at first, others did. My friends and also other bystanders who spoke up noticed this and said something. I want to be clear that I did not assume discrimination and accepted the bar policy at first, but them openly calling my friends and other bystanders “social justice warriors” for calling it out then joking about letting other sleeveless white men in was clear discrimination/ making a mockery of the fact that I was visibly black and they refused...
Read moreThis place has a super great atmosphere with sweet lights, a great dancefloor, and well known party bangers always playing. The ladies who bartend are very friendly and make drinks well. While I had a great time, there are a few things to mention:
Almost all of the security guards are incredibly rude. I get that it's a serious job, but the first time I went there when they checked my ID they shoved it back in my hands without saying anything and none of the 6 or 7 guards standing outside would answer me when I asked if I was good to go in. I asked multiple times, and they deliberately ignored me. They also will straight up run into you to get across the dancefloor, and some of them glare persistently while you're dancing. And I mean GLARE. Like, every time you look over they're doing it.
Second point: this place is NOT the environment for you if you like preserving the functionality of your eardrums. Perhaps this goes without saying when it comes to bars, but the music is LOUD. Often painfully so. First time I went I had to put in my wireless earbuds with no sound just so I could keep myself from rupturing an eardrum at the Tetris machine. At one point in the night they turned up the volume when it was already uncomfortably loud, to the point everyone had to type drink orders on their phone and shout repeatedly into people's ears. I went there last night. It's the afternoon now and my ears are still ringing.
So, yeah. It's a great place to party if you can ignore the guards and tolerate the uproar. Personally I think it's worth the trouble because the people I met were awesome and the energy in the club...
