This has been an excellent place to eat but our last visit was unpleasant.
The Good: Our waiter was a great blend of efficient, humor and politeness. It was an honor to be on his shift. Salads, both the goat cheese with beet and the roasted ceasar were good. Nice flavors.
The Disappointing: The table ordered both trout and salmon. The salmon is offered as being medium-rare; I perhaps mistakenly asked for medium. It was uninteresting. The couscous was a flavorless clump. The trout itself was described as being good but in an extreme amount of butter. I appreciate the classic presentation of the dishes but I believe I've had both dishes years ago in the same restaurant with more pleasant results.
Why only two stars: One of our party uses a walker due to disability. First, the wheelchair ramp was blocked by a parked Pickup. As we were entering the "greeter" told us to be careful because it was slick. This seemed rather silly as we had just crossed a snowy street with a fair amount of difficulty. Her comment seemed to only be to draw attention to the fact that rather than shovel or sweep the newly fallen snow the restaurant had chosen to put a melting agent on making a wet mess to negotiate the steps, while she stared at us. After showing us our table she was completely taken back by the thought that the rolling walker would not just disappear. After asking, the only place she could think of for walker was at a table on the far side of the room "That I am not using yet."
Getting out on a snowy night while using walking aides is great deal of work, perhaps twice the time and four times the energy, to then be treated like you're a problem because one is handicaped should never...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars, I would. I’ve been eating at fine dining for more than 20 years. Chicago, New York, London, etc. absolutely the most atrocious service I’ve ever had. We were literally the first table sat. Waitress started off rude, but I didn’t think much of it. Read the specials without any real explanation. Seemed irritated to be working, but whatever, I thought she was having a bad day.
We ordered the morel crepes and the stuffed morel mushrooms. The stuffed morels were horrible. I’ve been hunting and cooking morels my entire life. The morels weren’t washed/cleaned properly and were filled with dirt and grit, giving them a truly unpleasant sandy/gritty texture. I mentioned it to one of the wait staff. No one came by.
We then waited over an hour for our entrees. Mind you we were literally the first table sat. The table next to us (sat afterwards) we’re finishing their entrees. We still hadn’t been served. I asked the hostess how much longer our food would take. No one seemed to know.
As I had a young child with us, I told them I would have to leave as we had already been waiting an hour. They then insisted I pay for some of the meal and insisted on charging me $100.
The waitress then said - wait for it - “Sir, this is not McDonald’s. This is fine dining.” I worked in restaurants for 10 years. I’m an attorney who has frequented Michelin star restaurants and have dined at multiple James Beard award winners. Your service and restaurant are a joke. You should be...
Read moreThis restaurant presents itself as a French restaurant with French hospitality but it is not. For a brief overview of our experience at this restaurant: The hostess was distracted but did seat us. The server seemed to be inexperienced. The bar does not have a listing of their own cocktails and the server was prepared to just list ingredients rather than providing a specific drink name. The drinks arrived and were of a mediocre level, one guest did not enjoy her drink. We had the pate and the hot goat cheese salad which arrived at the same time. The pate was more like a terrine rather than a pate and the goat cheese was not hot. When the back waiter took the plates we said we wanted to slow down and he literally laughed. For the entrees, they were preempted by the owner explaining that even though we wanted to slow down the entrees were on their way. When they arrived the components were luke warm. The back waiter wanted to take our plates and made multiple passes to get them. When we finally allowed him to remove them he said "sweet". When this was pointed out to the server she said she did not know that this had occurred and that it was his second day on the job... Overall it was not a...
