Plaza Azteca Mexican Restaurant · OBX — Restaurant in Kill Devil Hills

Went there a little before 7pm and waited 30 minutes to get in which was no problem because we had a party of 8. Food was good but the reason I'm giving it two stars was bc of our waitress. We were seated and almost instantly was served chips and salsa. Christina who was our waitress took our drink order and after that it went downhill. She handed us our drinks and we were ready to order appetizers but she walked away. We literally waited over 40 minutes for her to come back to take our order. We had to have other waiters refill our drinks and ask where is our waitress. We watched other customers that were seated after us get there food and we haven't even put in our order! When she finally came back fourty minutes later we skipped the appetizers and put in our order. She didn't give any explanation of where she was. So of course if the restaurant is busy then the kitchen will be busy and they cook food by first order so we didn't get our food until over an hour and 10 minutes from the time we sat down till the time it came out. I can understand if the restaurant is busy but at least take our order and give it to the kitchen. The other waiters and waitress were standing around so we relied on them to refill our drinks but said they couldn't take are order. If we go back we will make sure not to...

I was glad to see that they had a couple of vegan options after reading the menu online and reading a few other articles about the vegan options. I eat vegan as well as have a severe dairy intolerance. The rice they serve for the regular menu options contains chicken stock but the vegan meals specify white rice which no chicken stock is used(so I've read). I ordered the vegan tacos, which comes with a side of white rice and black beans. When my order came I received the regular rice that comes with the non vegan options and cheese melted on top of it. When I told this to the waitress and explained that there are two different rices specified in their menu, she told me that they do not have the white rice and only have that one (which is not vegan). The server apologized (I understand she did nothing wrong here)and I just asked for a side of the black beans, which she brought very quickly to my table.

I suggest just asking for only the black beans at this location if you are seeking vegan options. I probably won't be eating here again myself. Considering that they don't have the white rice as stated and are serving a non vegan item in a vegan meal as well as putting cheese on my side, makes me feel uneasy about actually receiving food that is vegan, specially considering I have a dairy...

I am a local and have spent a lot of money in your restaurant and I have to say that last night was the worst experience I have ever had there!!! My daughter who is 16 and I came in around six o’clock for dinner. As soon as we walked in the door the hostess told us there was a table at the bar! I am a recovering alcoholic so the last thing I want to do is sit in a bar! I told her No, we don’t want to sit in the bar. She proceeded to say something derogatory about me to the guy worker beside her (I know Spanish) and he started laughing! I was fuming mad but decided to not make a scene in front of my daughter! When we started walking towards our table the younger guy worker said “I guess our Bar is too bad for you” “We got a bad bar”in a loud voice! Let me just say it doesn’t matter what reason I did not want my 16 year old daughter and myself to sit in the bar area!!! What the hostess and the younger kid did and said was very disrespectful! It’s not like we came in around closing when you were cleaning up the place! The food they bought me tasted like someone poured a whole bottle of salt on the top and the fun evening of celebrating my 10 month sober anniversary was ruined! Not a good look...
