My family has vmbeen coming for years. The rooms are dated, but it is clean. The elevator wasnt working and going to the top floor was tuff on my knees. I am not sure how they would be handicapped excessive since the elevator didnt work. there wasnt a garbage disposal. Also the pull out couch mattress i could feel the bar in my back On the water or easy access to the water. Very nice and safe walkways. The walkways were very well lit. There are two outdoor pools. There is an indoor heated pool. There is a club house area. Really like that it has movies and games to borrow and return. They offer various activities, which I thought were at a reasonable price. I took the resin class and the soy candle making class. The instructor was very nice. She answered questions when asked. The class was supposed to be $25.00. I arrived at 10:23 am for the class that was supposed to start at 10:30am, I found out that the class had already started. I looked for instructions for what we were doing and there weren't any. The class cost $25.00. What I found out was the class was $25.00, plus the price of the project you picked out. When I was picking out my project the instructor quickly told me prices. But none of the pieces were labeled with a price. The instructions had put two cups in front of us. I believe the resin and a hardner. Then she pulled out a powder told us to pick 2 or 3 colors out of a bin. One of the participants pulled all of the colors out, so we could actually see what the choices were. She did nit recommend any colors. She She explained that we needed to mix the two cups together. One of the participants had done this incorrectly and she didn't seem to happy. Then we poured the mix into the cup of power. She showed us how she poured it on her board. Then used a hot gun. Still not sure how long or why. Then she said we could use sand. This was after most had already poured their liquid mix. The instructor then said if we wanted to use white shebwould give it to us later. The lady across from me was very helpful and we worked through it. The instructor did not walk around to see if anyone needed help. There was another lady who came in to take pics. After the projects were close to done she said she had shells we could add, which was nice. However it would have been nice to know inadvance. After it was all complete I assumed we would receive a something about what we used and how to. We did not. The instructor was very nice! She answered questions. But when we asked specific questions that she couldn't answer she referred two of us to youtube. The class was not worth the $55.00 dollars that I paid, especially when I thought class was $25.00. It felt more like a group of people coming together to figure out how to do a project together. Not at a professional level. I have taken many classes for different crafts and by far the lack of understanding for the price, the lack of instruction and even assistance for the projects made me not want ro take anymore classes while on vacation. Maybe she was new, maybe it was a bad day or maybe these comments will help to make it better for the next class, especially when such strong chemicals are used. I asked for a feedback card and I was told they don't have them. Which also is very unprofessional. Oh, on the calendar it does say $25.00 and up. Again eluding that you could do a project for $25.00, that is NOT the case. I took the candle class with the same instructor right after the resin get together. Again, the instructor was very nice. No instructions. She stayed for the class even though it was just me, so she did not have to. The class cost $20.00. And in this case it was just $20.00. I love the smell of my candle. After, she answered questions I had. I feel like the questions I had in both instances are questions that most people would have. I askes about the ratio. I asked about how hot the wax should be? What to do if you get...
Read moreThe resort itself is great. Close to the beach, multiple pools, and spacious rooms.
My issue is with management! We booked this place using Expedia for 4 nights. The day after we booked, the resort called stating we would have to switch rooms half way through our trip. Annoying, but we changed around our plans to ensure we would be at the hotel.
Fast forward to when we arrive, we arrived at 5:15pm and the front desk was already closed. They have you call security to check you in. BIG MISTAKE. Security has no idea what is going on. The man asked for a credit card stating I had a balance of $400 however I was only suppose to pay $49 (still waiting for the pending charge to clear so I can see what they charged me). I mentioned this and his response was “well I know nothing about that”. Then, I mentioned changing rooms half way through and his response again was “well I know nothing about that”.
Because if my check in experience, the next day I take the time to stop back by the desk to talk to an actual receptionist. Turns out, yes I do still have to switch rooms the next day. When I ask what time they just said it would be before 12pm. So the next morning my group packs up all their stuff and decide to stay in the room as we didn’t want housekeeping to try and come while we weren’t there. So we wait around until 11:15 when all of a sudden house keeping knocks on our door saying we were suppose to be checked out. We explained the situation and she had no idea. She starts trying to call ppl and after 10 minutes of calling people she comes back and says our new room is ready, they are just waiting on the inspector. She asks if she can start cleaning the bathrooms since our room would be ready soon. We say sure and start loading up all our stuff. The house cleaner then started cleaning the other rooms so we decide to start moving our stuff to the porch below as the housekeeper said it was almost ready.
After 20 minutes of waiting around outside in the heat, it was 12pm and still no room so I decide to go to the front desk to see what’s going on. No one at the front desk knew anything about the changing of rooms. They are trying to call someone to ask and they never answer. So we are all just waiting around for someone to call back. I said I wanted a manager to speak with because this was getting absolutely ridiculous and we were stranded outside with all our belonging, including groceries! They never got a manager for me to speak to and instead the receptionist just kept apologizing.
They finally flag down some other guy and send him up to our room to see what’s taking so long and give me the keys to the new room despite it not being ready.
We continued to wait around until 1pm with no room! All we got was a “thank you for being understanding” and cups of stale popcorn.
The management in this place has got to work on their communication with their teams. Why did no one know what was going on? Why can’t I speak to a manager when I asked?! We should have been offered something for the inconvenience that this resort caused us. The ppl at this place really ruined that entire day for us so use caution when staying here and if they tell you you’ll have to change rooms,...
Read moreTIME HAS NOT BEEN KIND TO THE OBBC.
My husband and I exchanged some of our RCI points several years ago and stayed in a very spacious 3-bedroom unit at the Outer Banks Beach Club that had a beautiful view. We enjoyed our time there, and were thrilled to be returning to OBBR in August, 2025.
Unfortunately, our recent stay was a totally different experience, one that we would not choose to repeat. —The units are very outdated and clearly in dire need of major changes. —The door to the unit did not close properly and had a huge gap at the top. —The television kept shutting off. —The refrigerator made an annoyingly loud grinding sound. Another call to maintenance and more wasted time. —The hairdryer did not work, which we discovered after the office was closed, at 5:00, so we called the emergency number and spoke with Security, who told us that there WAS NOT EVEN ONE EXTRA HAIRDRYER AVAILABLE IN THE WHOLE SITE. Seriously?? How could that even be possible in such a large timeshare?? We asked Security to contact the manager, and when the manager was informed of the situation, we were told to go purchase a hair dryer for $20 or less; we would not be reimbursed if it cost more than that. Really??? OUR responsibility? So another waste of time to shop for an item that should have been in good working order.
The following day my husband spoke to management and learned that Security’s claim that there were no more hairdryers on site was NOT SUPPORTED. Rather, that employee did not actually know where to find the hairdryers, so he just created his own truth. Perhaps management needs to communicate better with staff so that members’ and guests’ needs are met after the office closes at 5:00.
Bottom line, too many negatives, and in retrospect we could not recommend the...
