AutoZone Auto Parts — Local services in Kill Devil Hills

While vacationing in Cape Hatteras village, we decided to drive into Kitty Hawk and Manteo for the day. En route, the alternator in our beloved 2007 Honda Element failed. We googled auto parts stores and decided on Autozone. We literally just coasted into the lot and the car failed. We pushed it into a parking space and went into the store. We were greeted by Thomas (Tom) who was one of the friendliest most service oriented people I have had the pleasure to deal with. He assisted us in testing the battery, and then charging it for free in order to also test the alternator. While I understand that this is a service Autozone does for free anyhow, it was done with a smile and enthusiasm. While we were waiting for the battery to charge, we strolled up and down the strip to speak to some garages in the event we needed to have a new alternator installed. the couple we visited were less than accommodating, one was down right rude, and it became evident we were going to be in a jam in the event the alternator was shot. We returned to Autozone and found that the battery was fine, and by deduction, it became evident we needed a new alternator. As luck would have it, they actually had a new one in stock for our vehicle ( a bit of an oddity). Tom was also able to put us in touch with a local mechanic who did the work quickly and professionally all with a smile and an honest price. This could have put a real dent in our vacation, but thanks to Tom, our day and vacation was salvaged. I work in senior sales management and know how hard it is to find people with the strong customer service skills this employee demonstrated. BIG thank you and SO MUCH appreciation for Allen who works here. I came in knowing not one thing about my car. He was extremely patient and helpful trying to explain which bulb I needed and how to replace it. I bought the bulb tried to put it in but when I took out the old one the bulbs weren’t the same. I came back to the store to return it because I believed I was sold the wrong one. I tried to talk to two separate workers who seemed annoyed with me and didn’t want to deal with me and my situation. After some rude interactions I had to go back to the car for my ID for the return and when I walk back in I see that once again I was pawned off to someone else because they didn’t want to help me with my issue. But, it was Allen this time! I was grateful to see a kind face who was eager to help! He goes, “I sold this to you what’s wrong? “ I told him “It’s the wrong bulb, look this is what it should look like” and pulled out the bulb I took out of my car. “That’s a bright light, I sold you a running light is that what you needed?” Apparently I took out the wrong one. He was the only one to catch it and he was kind enough to come show me which one went where and how to do it exactly. His kindness, knowledge of mechanics and his eagerness to help solve my problems will be forever appreciated and this is the only reason I will be a returning customer. But I will definitely be...

Our truck broke down last night and we just barely made it in the drive way to the parking lot. The store was getting ready to close and I had to ask to borrow a jump box. The battery was completely dead so the jump box didn't work. The associates there came out and jumped the truckp, it ran for a few minutes and shut off again. They came back out and jumped the truck two more times and let us park the truck there for the night until we could come back and fix it the next day when they were open. Instead of just making us walk back to our place, which would have taken us an hour, an amazing man working there offered to give us a ride home. On top of being so great for giving us a ride home, he offered to come back this morning and pick us up and take us back to fix the truck. They did everything they could possibly do to help, from letting us borrow tools to testing parts and take time out of there day.
