El Taquero Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Killeen

Well Saturday my husband wanted to try a new place to eat a friend of his told him that the menudo was good here. Now my husband is very picky when it comes to this dish as if the tripe is not cleaned correctly it can give a bad smell or possibly tummy hurting. It's pretty hard to fine a place that can make it very well. Yes we have tried just about everywhere here and sometimes it's good but then each cook cooks differently so we then dont go back. 👀 Anyway we go in sit down and waitress comes over gives menu and as she ask what we'd like to drink my husband ask if they have menudo on this day she says yes .. so he ask does it have corn.. she says yes my husband don't like but still interested it trying it.. she explains that they did make it with out but most customers prefer having it in so now it comes with only .. ok .. my husband then ask is there anyway he can a bit to taste it . Now usually it's not an issue anywhere you go to have a taste but nope do do that here ... She proceeds to say no they can't do that but you can buy a bowl and try it that way. I then said why would I want to buy a bowl of something and if I don't like still have to pay for it. It don't make sense he just want to have a small taste everywhere we have gone has not had an issue letting him taste it. And even if he don't like it we'd still order something else.. she then proceeded to put foot 🦶🏻 in mouth 👄. Saying how good there food is everyone comes to eat there even the soldiers come to eat cause it good Mexican food and Mexicans love good mexican food. See there a soldier with his family. They come back every time. I said well your opinion of the food you serve is your opinion everyone is not the same and we are all different. She then says yes but ours is the best Mexican people only go where good food is white people will eat anything good or not sorry but this last comment hit a nerve with me and my husband I'm Mexican white I'm a Hines57 ..lol . Anyway and my husband too but we had to walk out well my husband new to say let go . Hit head here .. it was disrespectful and disgusting to hear someone say that. It was the second time I have had someone say something so disappointing.. like there's already so much going on in this world why bring it in to your business.. like excuse me.. I will not ever go to that place much less refer anyone here hate does not belong here nor anywhere.. I'm sorry for whom owns this business I pray for all .. it took me a few days to post this as I wanted to be calmed down thank God I didn't take my kids with me .. most are white and American Indian and Mexican proud of all that we are .. Blessings to all we ended up going to our regular place .. great...

Update: womp womp We returned at a later date after such an amazing experience the first time. Must have been a hit day because this time it was a miss. Again, there was no one in the restaurant when we went in. The agua de horchata was watered down, the salsa for dip was not good. I don’t know how you can mess up fresh salsa, wayyyy too watery, not cut up enough, and the prevalence of lime made it far too acidic. The service was okay, this time we were serviced by a woman who I believe cooks the food. The young waiter didn’t arrive until the very end. Well the food was not good this time around. It unfortunately caused problems for both me and my husband. He is convinced we go another time to see if it will be 2/3 but I prefer consistency. However, I will not forget the great meal we had the first time, and for that I will be giving them 3 stars.

Went on a Thursday night, no one in sight which made me doubt going in. Boy am I glad I didn’t! Me and my husband had the beef parrillada for 2, oh my goodness. My husband and I had breakfast here. It looks very unassuming, but is nice on the inside. Everything looked and smelled clean. It is a small restaurant. We ate here because I read they have the best menudo in town. I am very picky about menudo, as my mom's is the best. I would say that their menudo is good, and definitely better than others I have had in the area. You get three tortillas with the menudo. The tortillas are ok. My husband had the chilaquiles with green sauce and two over easy eggs. He said it was very good. I also ordered a chorizo and egg breakfast taco in case I did not like the menudo. My husband ate the breakfast taco and said it was good as well. The lady that took care of us was very friendly. Overall it was a good experience. We will return in the future to try...
