Thanks to this place we now have a new rule about trying new restaurants: check the bathroom BEFORE ordering. Half a light in the bathroom with water all over the floor and bar soap for everyone to wash their hands with or watered down pump soap. The water on the floor was probably from the diaper sprayer/diy bidet they have attached to the toilet. Now to the food: I am so grateful we did not get sick (one star for that). Over $100 for my family of 7 to get a meal. I have never paid so much for a gyro anywhere. I have had better fries from public school cafeterias. My husband said he's had a better gyro on post at fort Bragg (sad, y'all), and I've had much better gyros at a mall. I absolutely could not tell you why they are charging these high prices for pre-made, frozen food they half heat up. Everything was warm, not hot and yes we ate there at the restaurant. The falafel were the worst I've ever had. I watched the cook open the freezer burned bag of pre-made lumps of sad excuses for falafel and the pita bread is definitely not homemade. They do not have tzatziki sauce but instead some weird, sweet, garlic ranch-like sauce. The humus was a solid, cold lump that was oddly spicy and very oily. The fries were so bad I asked if they are the fries they usually serve since we came here partly based on the photos of good looking fries. I was told these are the fries they always serve. My kids wouldn't even eat them, they were that bad. I asked for no onions on my gyro but was told the tomato, onion, and cucumber are all cut up and mixed together so you get them all or none. The server was very nice (another star for good service). The door SCREAMS a loud alarm beeping at you when you enter and leave. We feel ripped off and definitely won't be going back for low quality,...
Read moreSo after living in Killeen for almost 4 years, my husband and we finally remembered this place and decided to give a try last Friday. We decided to dine in for dinner. The portion size are decent, but I feel are a bit on the pricier side only because most plates do not come with fries and there's not many options given on combos plates that do.
Overall, the taste of the food was better than we expected and we both enjoyed our meals. However, I don't want to nitpick, but I do wish that we were given plates instead of take out containers while dining in. I just feel like the food would have been more pleasing to the eye. Also, the dining area was clean and pretty quiet, until a female worker came in, being loud and sort of jokingly-obnoxious telling her other co-worker about her "wrecking her car" she kept on about how her mother was going to "kill" her for smashing the bumper. To the point that she even had to take her co-worker outside to show him while we just ate our food and watched them take off outside. Not too mention, the phones were going off without anyone to answer them. Uh-oh... possible loss of revenue? But, hey this young lady car bumper was more important. LOL.. About 5 minutes later they walked in and the younger lady just kept going on and on while her male co-worker just shook his head.
Maybe she just young and slightly immature, but it was pretty annoying to hear keep going on about it as we ate. At least she took a quick second between her dramatics to ask us how our food was and if everything was okay.
IMO: Price = 4 Taste of the food = 4 Presentation = 3 Customer service = 3 Experience = 2 Cleanliness of dining area = 4 As a Returning...
Read moreSome friends and I popped in for lunch the other day, and I'm glad we did! I'm always trying to find good low-carb options around here, and their Half N Half plate lunch special was a solid pick. I asked Asra if she could swap the rice and pita for extra salad, and she was super accommodating. The Half N Half is a mix of lamb gyro and chicken tikka. Both were really flavorful, tender and well-seasoned. She really came through with the large salad for my base that was fresh and piled high with toppings – definitely a filling meal. My total, with a drink (in my case a bottle of water), came to $16.23.
One of my friends ordered the Mix Grill plate, which included the addition of chicken kebab, and a baklava dessert. He was pretty happy with his meal, saying he wished he'd ordered another plate to go. However, he said the baklava was a bit hard. His meal total with the baklava came out to $22.71.
The place itself is on the smaller side, so it's probably best for smaller groups if you want to dine in. They serve everything in to-go containers, which is convenient. Asra was really friendly and patient, especially since we took a minute to figure out what to order. Just a heads-up: the payment kiosk does ask for a tip, even though it's counter service and you bus your own disposables.
Overall, Kebabistan Grill is a good spot for a tasty and filling meal. It's not the cheapest lunch around, but the quality and portion sizes make it worth it, especially if you're watching your carbs. We will definitely...
