I think Jimmy's Egg, Killeen was subjected to the ultimate test... Hubby and I took a party of five there on Father's Day Sunday at 12:30 pm. LOTS of folks ahead of us. We were quoted a 20-minute wait, but were seated in 18 minutes. Smaller parties of 2-3 folks were seated ahead of us, which is to be expected. Good job handling the guest flow and expectations, Regina!
Coffee arrived almost before our seats were warm via a friendly and attentive waitress. Five significantly different breakfast/brunch entrees were ordered and a ton of flavored creamers were brought out to ensure everyone was happy. Extra napkins were brought and the creamer trash taken away quickly.
Four of the five of us had our excellently prepared entrees served in under 15 minutes. I'd ordered Eggs Benedict (again) but was told they'd broken the eggs and were remaking them... it wasn't a five minute wait for another plate of MOST perfect Eggs Benedict. :-) Hubby ordered the Florentine Omelette (again) and said it was even better than the first time. He ordered their biscuit w/ gravy as a side and it was a smooth, creamy and sausage-laden gravy over an incredibly fluffy biscuit. I'd ordered their home fries with onions and cheese... it was good, but could've used more cheese for the creamy factor. FIL ordered the ham steak and eggs with hash browns... the ham steak was HUGE... seriously, it easily covered 1/3 of the large plate it was served on. I was concerned FIL wouldn't be able to finish his breakfast, but he plowed through it like nobodies business, barely coming up for air. LOL!
The restaurant was packed with people... singles at the counter, couples at tables, families in booths and yet I can't say it was loud or raucous. Conversation at our table was easy to hear and no one had to shout. And at no time did we ever feel we were being rushed to "eat & git"... in fact, we were made to feel like we were the only patrons our waitress had and we had a leisurely 80 minute meal with our family.
We were seated in a booth directly in front of their 'Pick Up To-Go Orders' station and there was a short line the entire time we were there... a decent assortment of individual customers and "we deliver" delivery persons. I'm not sure I'd EVER leave my home if I got Jimmy's Egg delivered... LOL!
All in all, I'm most pleased that even on a major weekend holiday, Jimmy's Egg came through with shining colors from wait time to staff to food. Another stupendous meal was had by all and the check was incredibly small for what...
Read moreThe restaurant was open after the winter storm (kudos for that). Other than that, and a friendly waitress pretty much everything else was suspect. On my visit with my wife and daughter we had dirty tables, seats, flatware, and floors. There doesn't seem to be a system for bussing the tables because we were told (direct quote) "sit at the table you think is cleanest" by the first employee we encountered. She then waived us in the direction of several haphazardly 'cleaned' tables that were clean looking from 20' but were obviously wiped with a damp rag quickly. The sticky residue of syrup, sugar, and God knows what was smeared from corner to corner. Being a Waffle house connoisseur, I'm no stranger to greasy spoon restaurants. I didn't expect it from Jimmy's Egg though. My daughter ordered apple juice and it came with a side of hair (yep, long straight blondish hair swimming in her cup. This is after I spent a considerable amount of time convincing her it was clean (we settled on a straw). I'm giving the restaurant 2 stars because the food was actually good, hot and came in a reasonable amount of time. Things went from bad to worse when our waitress told us she'd be right back with our drinks after she goes and scrubs the toilet, and take out the trash (swear to god, normally I would be angry but she truly seemed like that was normal to her.) That was it for me, I picked up the check that my industrious waitress/janitor/bus girl/greeter left before gathering her cleaning supplies (I think). To my dismay, I was informed that I had to wait for my industrious waitress/cashier to return (and she did, complete with tales of icy trash-capades from her janitorial duty) in order to pay. I tipped her, and won't be back. It's one of those "remember that time at Jimmy's Egg..." for me and my family now. If this type of thing matters: No person with aversion to COVID or compromised immune system should eat here, there was exactly one person in the building (other than my family) with a mask on. She wore it as a chinstrap. All facts, nothing was...
Read moreUnfortunately I didn't get to try the food, and out of principle for how we were treated I will not eat there. The hostess was terrible at her job. We were told at 945am on a Saturday that our wait was 10 mins. Gave them 25 to 30 and then were told we were the next. Gave it more ample time, and then went in to find out they had the wrong number and didn't even attempt to step outside to say anything but gave our table away to people who had just showed up about 15 mins prior to walking in for their table. We saw many other people be seated while we continued to wait. We had been standing majority of the time right outside the window. The host saw my friend walk outside, but tried to say she didn't know we were outside at one point. There is absolutely no room for people to wait inside during a pandemic. We were told by another customer that there were 2 families on the benches sitting in close proximity. I am higher risk too, so I will not be able to be cuddled up in the lobby with strangers. We were even told that some people had been there since 8am and they were one of the people in the lobby...
They were not very kind to my hearing impaired friend, and were rude when we had someone else come check on the wait because it had been 1.5 hours. Finally after 2 hours, 1140ish, the manager came out to seat our party, however I had already discussed the business I needed in the outside wait as I really didn't want to eat somewhere that treats customers this way, and I also had plans that this would have ran into.
I had wanted to try this restaurant many times, but it was always the same days that the rest of the area wanted to eat there too on a Sunday 😆, at those times I left because I'm too hungry to wait long enough for a table and my blood sugar would drop. I went on that Saturday with a snack in my belly and knowing that we would likely wait awhile. If I had not of snacked, I would have had to leave far sooner.
So yes, unfortunately because of a terrible customer service experience I can't even speak on...
