Went to dine in around 4p - 430p on a Saturday. Really disappointed with this visit. There were 3 of us and 2 of us order steak tacos, the other person ordered enchiladas. The tacos did not taste good at all. They were barely warm so by the time I put my toppings on them, I was eating cold tacos. The steak didn’t have any flavor at all. They tasted like cooked meat, meaning there wasn’t any seasoning at all. No salt no pepper, nothing. Literally the meat was cooked and that’s it. The meat was greasy. You could see most of the grease on the corn tortillas. The corn tortillas were hard around the edges and they didn’t seem fresh. Kind of chewy. The beans and rice were the best thing I ate. Also ordered cheese dip. It was ok seemed different, kind of gritty, maybe they changed it but it was ok but not great. We didn’t finish eating that either. The salsa bar, the onions looked as if they were starting to brown on top and you could tell that other’s were digging/picking around the discolored one. Same for the cilantro. I was just so hungry I forced myself to eat two of the tacos and the rice and beans. Took the rest with me and just threw it away. I didn’t bother complaining because we already felt as if the server didn’t want to wait on us. Not sure why. We are always nice and friendly and interactive with our server when we go out to eat. And we also tip very well but we didn’t this time due to the poor service. Not sure what was going on with our server that day but we did feel as if she didn’t want to wait on us or maybe she was just not in the mood to work. She wasn’t rude, just not very attentive. And even when she did speak she acted like she didn’t want to talk. Either way, the service was not good. Burro Floho is usually good however this is the 3rd time in two years the food hasn’t been up to par and not worth the price because it tastes terrible. I won’t we back for a long time if...
Read moreUpdate: I am not sure what is going on with this restaurant. Our first 2 times here the food was outstanding. Last time we went the fajitas came out not sizzling. Today the fajitas were missing bell peppers, instead there were tomatoes, the tortilas were rubbery like they had been sitting out for a while and microwaved several times. The beans were oversalted. The hot salsa had a layer of oil on the top even after stirring, the chips were very greasy. The floors were so slick and greasy you could skate to your table, same with the women's restroom and there was no soap in the bathroom. There is 1 waitress here that will not check up on you, she isn't friendly. The food portions are large but just not worth it in my opinion.
Stopped in for lunch today, our first time here, party of 6. Waitress was very friendly and checked on us several times. Everyone's food was outstanding. Fajitas came with lots of chicken and not greasy at all, quesadillas were very big, taquitos mexicanos were spot on, lots of flavor, enchiladas were excellent. Portions sizes are great, reasonable prices, less than $90 for 6 people. Only complaint would be that the rice lacked seasoning, other than that Very satisfied. We will be...
Read moreI recently found out about El Burro Flojo from the Knoxville sub Reddit. You can't see it from the street, but it's in the Ross strip mall near Downtown West off Kingston Pike. I used my GPS app to find it. I got there before lunch, so the service was quick, and I got my food really fast.
Since there are over 70 Mexican restaurants in the Knoxville area, you need a little something extra to stand out from the crowd. El Burro Flojo has a magnificent salsa bar with many choices of sauces and also sides like cilantro, lemon and lime slices, chopped onions and even a cactus salsa. I tried a few of the sauces, and they were great. I would go back just to try some of the others.
I picked one of the inexpensive Lunch specials, a tamale and a shredded chicken taco with rice and beans. They were above average by themselves, but being able to add a bunch of chopped herbs, vegetables and sauces made everything so much better. I wish all Mexican restaurants had salsa bars.
Anyway, I found a new favorite Mexican restaurant to try any time I'm in town (I live near Oliver Springs). If you like maxing out your dining experience with the addition of a great salsa bar, this is the...
