Update 04/30 - it's been quite a few months since we visited this location, because of how terrible it was. Got back from vacation tonight and decided to try it again since it's close. Mistake. We weren't told that they were out of the shredded chicken I ordered until we had been rung up. The employee had to fulfill our orders at the drive through counter instead of the normal counter, and literally did not say a single thing until we were being rung up and my husband's card was already in the machine. On top of that, the lid to the dressing I ordered wasn't placed on the container correctly, so there is now dressing all over our food containers and the bag. Great job, Cafe Rio 👍 it's incredible just how consistently terrible this location is. Safe to say there will be no future "chances to impress" in the future at this location.
There's a reason this is the lowest rated location in Boise/Meridian. They always seem to be fully staffed, yet they are ALWAYS out of something. The last 3 times we've been, regardless of day or time, they have been out of steak. Last time they were also out of medium sauce, cilantro lime dressing, and the rice was mush. Tonight my husband went and they were out of steak again, AND both types of chicken. I truly do not understand how there is always some sort of shortage of food when we have never had this same issue at any of the other locations. The way I've heard the younger employees lash out at each other in frustration in front of guests is just the cherry on top of this disaster of a business.
It's truly sad to see the constant generic response of "we will communicate with our team to make your future visit better" or "we value your feedback and will use it to help improve." There does not seem to be any improvement over the last 5-6 months. This location has been much more convenient, but from now on we will make the longer drive to the Boise...
Read moreThis is our third time trying this Cafe Rio and unfortunately will be our last. We've given them the benefit of the doubt each time, considering our food was cold the first two times we've tried them despite dining in. Tonight we decided to give them another try. We stood in line for 5 minutes before someone asked what we wanted, even though the people ahead of us had ordered before we had walked in. It seemed like the staff was very slow moving and they spoke so softly or too quickly, you couldn't hear/understand them. I ordered a salad with chicken. The guy at the end of the counter that added lettuce to my salad added so much lettuce that the container that was once full of lettuce for other dishes, now had barely any lettuce left for customers behind us. I was shocked he was able to cover my salad due to the amount of lettuce he added. We opted to take our food home instead of dining in. Once home, I started removing some of the excessive amounts of lettuce and promptly found an earwig amongst the lettuce. Talk about appetite completely gone! Completely disgusted. I attempted to call the store to make them aware but the number listed goes to a call center and not the actual restaurant. I did request a refund for the salad through the customer service agent at the Cafe Rio call center. We also brought the salad back to the restaurant so they would be aware and the manager on duty was disgusted as well and offered a new salad, which we declined. She also offered a refund but we let her know we had called and gotten that taken care of. Unfortunately we will not be returning to Cafe Rio, and I highly recommend checking your food before consuming if you should choose to dine here.
I should note, I have seen a previous post on this same establishment about bugs being found in food but because that was so long ago I assumed that had been addressed....
Read moreThis chain has gone consistently downhill. Offers don’t load in the app despite fulfilling the terms so you have to call customer service 3 times; when they do appear they regularly don’t work when scanning at the register and the staff say they can’t do anything about it despite the fact THEY SCANNED IT THEMSELVES from my app; the staff have often given me wrong information; they give you a tiny melon-ball scoop of guac for $2.69; if you ask for more of any toppings (like salsa or cheese) they say they have to charge you extra. I once wanted to purchase 3 containers of queso to take to my daughter - just the queso - which is on the menu for $3.49. I was told “we don’t sell it that way, only with the chips for $6.49” or whatever it was. I pointed to the menu and the lady insisted that was only with a meal purchase which isn’t true. Portions are inconsistent from store to store. One store gives you two melon-ballers of avocado salsa and others give you one (try to find the avocado). I had another server scrape the container to give me about a teaspoon and when I asked for more she was annoyed. And the menu selections aren’t even that special. You only have a few selections of meat and you have to pay extra for the rest. I have had a few good experiences with staff that were very accommodating but that is the exception rather than the rule. The only good thing is the rewards when they actually work. I’m using those up and probably won’t return. I’ll stick with Chipotle. At least I get a whole spoonful of guac there and I can have as much of the...
