Pop's Malt Shoppe — Restaurant in Kutztown

All my complaints are of a personal nature, but I will not be going back. I’m not mad just disappointed. I was throughly underwhelmed with the building, the staff, the decor, the price, and even the flavor. This place clearly does good business but I’m not entirely sure that it’s not due to the fact that they are open later than any other local ice cream parlor.

Building: Very small, not air conditioned (which is not uncommon for small eatery’s but it seemed odd for an ice cream place), and there is no way to form any kind of line with their setup. If it’s busy you have to defend your place in line, and nobody was happy about that.

Staff: While they were friendly, they seemed woefully undertrained. When I questioned the price he kindly double checked and said what the extra price was about. I said, oh ok I understand. But he didn’t drop it. He defended the price again asking if I wanted a receipt, and again I said I understand it’s fine. He printed the receipt and read it to me and starting to get irritated I said, I said Its fine.

Decor: This is totally personal, it just seems dated and old. It probably up to code, but the combo makes it seem like the place might not be.

Price: The price was about 25-30% higher than I expected. Upon tasting the ice cream, it wasn’t worth it in my opinion.

Flavor: This seems like generic Ice cream, and I can get that at home for 1/3 of the price, and none of the hassle. One of the main points of the food industry is to give people something they can’t get at home. The better your food items the less all other aspects of your...

The only reason I gave it one star was because it will not allow me to leave negative Stars. The experience was so bad that it made my pregnant sister throw, left me with the worst Birthday diner ever.they sent out horribly made processed cheap food slowly sloppy and do not ever care about it. We had six people at our table three received there food took almost another to receive the other three meals. My superman burger was served with only one patty they bring out another patty on dish expecting my to assemble my own burger I guess I receive their salary . Then there chicken sandwich was so discussing my grandmother could not eat it she said McDonalds can make better food. The entrance is not handicap accessible my mother and grandmother both walk with a cane and a walker. The bathrooms were so discussing and vile that would not even let a dog go in there. My sister who is pregnant used the bathroom and had to throw up though the throw up was the cleanest thing in that bathroom. The owner does even care would not take money off the bill and the supervisor said sorry a million but yet did nothing to help the situation and as supervisor don't you think she should be cleaning the bathrooms helping in the kitchen but no she choose to do nothing. We took my son to Pop's Malt Shoppe for his birthday. I have a brain injury need and walker. The entrance and bathroom are not handicap accessible. We did get our drink orders taken quick. Took a good while to get our food order taken. It took an hour to get our food. There were 6 of us we got the orders 2 x 2 So we only had 2 people eating at the same time. My son ordered the Superman burger. His burger had 1 burger not 2. He told the server. She brought him the second burger on a dish. Expecting him to put the second Pattie on himself. No utensils were given to him or any of us. We were expected to eat like animals. My mother-in-law ordered a fried chicken sandwhich. She was unable to eat it, she said, " a McDonald's chicken sandwich would be better" My 7 month pregnant daughter ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. her sandwhich had flakes from the grill on the bread. She was unable to eat it. The burgers had a good taste but were over cooked. The bathroom was dirty and smelled like urine. The smell made my pregnant daughter sick - she vomited. My husband asked to speak with the owner. He would not speak with us. Would not take anything off of the bill for the poor service, bad food. However, the server was very quick to get the bill to us.
