My review will be entirely based on their bread, pastry, and drink selection. I have seen their freshly baked cakes on display, but have yet to try them...although it is definitely on my list.
First, location. Excellent. Conveniently located in a large shopping plaza with ample parking. Directly across the street from a local State park, so if you're in the mood for a hike in the morning, this is the perfect after hike treat. Cashiers work extremely efficient, and the long line will typically go by pretty fast. There is limited tables and seating available as well, so if you're in the mood to grab a bread, a coffee, and chill to people watch - this is good spot if you're lucky enough to secure a table.
They have freshly baked pastries and bread, daily, up until I believe...late afternoon (not sure on the exact time). What makes this different than say...a JJ bakery (another asian bakery chain) is in my opinion, 85 offers more variety of sweet sugary breads and pastries. They do have a classic hot dog bread, and a spinach danish (which I LOVE), but for the most part, many of their selections are sweet rather than savory. BUT, they do sweet PERFECTLY. They have red bean paste buns, mocha buns, matcha buns, and even a taro bread that I occasionally dabble in. My advice, take your time going through their selection - and pick one of everything you think you may like. Then, on your next visit, you'll know exactly what to go for.
Pro tip, before you head over to ponder which bread and pastry to take home, use their drink order machine to place an order for a ice cold (or hot) beverage. I'm a coffee guy when I go to 85, so I'll end up usually with the house special, but they have a decent variety of lattes as well. They make a OK boba, it's definitely not the best, or the worse, I've had, and is good enough to satisfy your boba craving.
Pro tip #2, download the 85 app! It is extremely simple to accumulate points, and it offers perks like discounts, and vouchers for free drinks, bread,...
Read more85C used to be popular like 10 years ago when it first opened. People still come but it seems like their food/bread quality and drink quality died down a lot. This location is located on the corner of colima and azusa inside a big strip mall plaza. Plenty of parking in there and super easy to locate this since you can drive past it on Azusa on your right hand side driving South.
I have came to this location many times before but have not once for the last few years mainly due to so many similar bakery store opened nearby but also I felt like their bread isn’t as good anymore. I came yesterday again after dinner to get a drink and a dessert. They have the cashier section and the drink and dessert section. I ordered my drink and dessert and paid for it. Then I wanted to let the cashier know on modifying the sweetness of my drink. Right when I mentioned about my drink, he would cut me off, not letting me even finish what I was going to say. That was rude. i understand the things I said its better to go to the drink section and address to the person there but you don’t do that to customers. That was no huge issue actually but the drink I ordered as it came out tasted like sugar syrup. I ordered a ooloog milk tea with boba but i only tasted sugar and sweet from both the milk tea and boba. No tea taste and the sweet totally covered the taste of the tea. The mango brulee sliced cake that I ordered was decent, no issue with it.
Overall, I cannot give it a 3.5 with below average customer service...
Read moreRead moreOn July 4, around 7 pm I went to get some bread and pastries for family, when I line up waiting for cashier, which there was nobody there! I myself and other customers were line up for about 3-4 mins before a man cashier about 5’10’’ Latino walk up from other side of store, said you guys have to line up the other side, and I reply ‘ there were no sign to direct where to line up’ and he kept arguing it’s right there, I walk back and show him there wasn’t a sign there, and he reply saying ‘ oops, they must took it away’ when I walk up to pay, he just say PLEASE DO NOT COME BACK AGAIN , YOU ARE NOT WELCOME!!!. I wonder what kind of attitude is that, and I ask him what do you mean??He just shook his head and continue take money from other customer. I think this guy has attitude issues, and perhaps I’m Chinese. Didn’t he forget the founding fathers of 85degree is Chinese? Later I didn’t see he has attitude with other racial customers especially girls. I need to reflect to the management about this issue, this can be devastating for the company if you have this kind of employee on staff!!! Btw, I’ve been a loyal customer 15years from the very beginning of this Bakery location, I can’t imagine how other customers would think if encounter the same...
