Hello. My name is Taetiana Morrison. I've been going to trappers since about 2015-2016 when there were limited locations such as 6th ave in Tacoma. Trappers is my favorite place and I've never had bad service here until I came to the Lacey location. It was my birthday on Oct. 15. I had a reservation set for 7pm. We arrived and were seated, immediately the waiter was stand offish. We are all black and she was of another race that Im not sure of, maybe Caucasian. I told her it was my birthday and as far as I know, trappers usually gives a free Mochi ice cream on birthdays. She just said "happy bday" that was it. I wasn't offered anything for my birthday. We placed our orders quickly, received all of our drinks quickly and proceeded to wait 50 minutes for our food. My friend was getting her "hot food" even before me and all I ordered was two sushi rolls. Although, her food was not hot at all. The waiter would have been notified had she been anywhere to be found. She only ever checked on us once around 8pm and we let her know the food was cold and she asked "why we didn't tell her" but that was the first time she had checked on us the entire we were there. We never got any refills and were not checked on. As I watched the table across from me continue to receive sushi roll after sushi roll, from the same waiter during the 50 minutes of me waiting for just my two -- I watched them receive about ...I want to say four or five sushi rolls. She was bringing them back plates with two rolls each during the entire 50 minutes that I waited for mine. The men at the table just so happened to be a set of two Caucasian men as well. I don't know if that's a coincidence or not I just wanted to add that in there. And once we got our sushi, my partners deep fried sushi that normally comes served warm was completely cold. I sought out trappers sushi to attend for my birthday because it's always been my favorite sushi restaurant. So I was very upset and very sad to see how I was being treated at this new location that I've never been to before. I just wanted to say thank you to that server who showed me the worst time I've ever had at any trappers sushi in my life I seriously could not believe that because it has never happened before I always get good service at trappers that's one of the reasons why I love trappers. Its sad really. I don't remember the servers name. I just know I was at the Lacey location being served from 7pm-8:30pm. Hopefully you all can figure who was serving me that day and make proper...
Read moreOverall, I've had a positive experience the three times I've been to Trappers. Each time has been takeout.
Food: Very on par with similar food establishments in this part of the country. I've tried three different suishi rolls, and aside from the one I ordered later in the evening (7:45pm) all were fresh and well made.
Service: Food has always been ready to go, no issues. Must say though, picking up my order usually feels like going through customs in North Korea. If you stop by in anything less than smart casual, expect to have to convince the take out person that you have a credit score above 750, own a late model iPhone with your order confirmation on it, and that you didn't arrive pushing a Target shopping cart. Helps to bring a significant other with a matching smile and good dental work. Otherwise, the assumption is you are a transient, until proven otherwise.
Atmosphere: Admittedly, having never heard of this suishi chain before moving west, I formed my first impression entirely from a Google search for "sushi + "restaurants" in my area, and the resulting photos. Despite the semi upscale store front in the website photos, this place is not that. Walking in, I get the greasy Texas Roadhouse, but with worse lighting, sad patrons, and a 'perpetually under construction' vibe.
My first time in, I let the host know I was there for take out, then stepped out of the way to wait for my food. I was immediately told not to stand at that particular end of the bar area, because she couldn't keep an eye on it....oh well, my bad.
The third time in, I had to convince the hostess that I was in fact, not an Uber driver. After repeating my name, rank and order confirmation number, and answering the standard, "but are you homeless tho?" verbal survey questionnaire, and looking moderately confused and annoyed, the good chap in the back came over and informed the hostess that mutiple normal takeout orders had been coming through as Uber eats orders, for some reason known only to god and the order placement system.
My feelings about this place are mixed. In my opinion, there are only two good things about Trapper's, one being the store front (oooo, stainless steel, many much modernity), and the other being that the food is decent to good. If you're looking for a nice dining experience, I'd say look elsewhere. For god's sake, don't bring a date here... But if takeout is all you need, it does that pretty well.
I'll edit/update my findings as...
Read moreI really like this place and would even go as far to say that it is the best sushi in town.
My only hang up is that when we were greeted we were immediately asked if we were going to eat off the menu or do the all you can eat. We had never been to Trappers before and while I would have like to compare the all you can eat menu to the regular menu first we went with the all you can eat in order to not further annoy the hostess since she didn't seem to have the time to answers questions.
When we sat down at the sushi bar we were given the all you can eat menu by the waitress but no explanation. We finally asked our sushi chef how it worked but he didn't mention that we could also order off the lunch menu on the back until we were pretty much ready to go. We only became aware of the price and hour time limit thanks to the sign on the sushi case.
I really believe they should implement a better greeting system with the hosts where people are asked if they have dined there before and if not give a brief explanation of the menu. I understand this may seem a bit like a downgrade in terms of the level of fancy for the restaurant but it doesn't look like I am alone in this predicament as I look at other reviews. Maybe a sign in front so guests aren't pestered with questions when being greeted by the host but once again that takes style points away from the atmosphere. I get it but something should change.
I can also attest to the fact that we weren't the only ones this happened to that night. The same thing happened to the two ladies next to us. One of them only ordered one roll. The chef at the end of their meal asked the waitress to only charge her for the roll rather than the all you can eat price saving her...
