Come with me as we try one of Lafayette’s upper-scale restaurants, Charley G’s! It was my first ever experience having escargot 🐌 & I honestly LOVED the texture and flavor. The filet was amazing and I can absolutely understand 1000% why the “house salad” is the most requested and sold item on the 2nd course menu. For our drinks/martinis, I tried the “Georgia Peach” - all things peach - peach schnapps being one of my faves. Quintin had the “So Fresh - So Clean” - the only variation was the absence of the muddled cucumber (bc they were out of cucumber). It was a very refreshing and lemon forward drink. Our waiter, Miles, made the whole experience even more so incredible with his warmth, quick wit and engaging conversation. I’m not well versed in this type of restaurant setting and Miles made it feel extremely comfortable and didn’t act like I was “less than” for asking questions and wanting to know details of things. I’d definitely recommend asking for him as your waiter and will 10/10 be requesting him when we return. We didn’t get to try any of the deserts this go-round (bc of time and honestly tummy-space limitations), BUT they all sounded incredible. I can’t recall every detail, but there was a bread pudding, a pecan cheesecake and more - all of which I would have gladly sampled given an empty stomach and time to savor it. Pooo-yie, y’all!! Your girl was feeling full, fat and sassy!!! We missed our movie but Quintin stopped for ice cream on the way home. Seriously, a date night to remember ♥️ @@Q_Ness_Monster##charleygs##charleygslafayette##lafayette##louisiana##datenight##date##saturday##saturdaynight##saturdaynightlive##escargot##filet##peach##newplace##restaurant##countrycometotown##fyp##foryo##foryoupage##foryourpage

Decided to come on a Monday, where it is 1/2 off Ribeye, and it did not disappoint! We have not been here in awhile, but everything was awesome! We had the following: Tartare of Tuna - Seaweed Salad, Ginger Vinaigrette, Tobiko, Wonton Chips Pan-Seared Foie Gras - Blueberry Preserves, Pickled Vegetables, Fresh Fruit, Candied Walnuts & Wood-Grilled Bread Wood-Grilled Ōra King Salmon - Summer Succotash, Butternut Squash Puree, Toasted Almond & Arugula Salad, Charred Lemon Vinaigrette Aged Ribeye - ordered with Manchego Corn Grits & Risotto The Ora King Salmon was soooo perfect! We had gotten it cooked medium rare, and let me tell you, this is the best salmon I ever ate in my life! And as always, the aged ribeye was also very delicious! ****UPDATE**** Ribeyes are no longer half on Mondays, but at a discount. STILL WORTH IT! Winter Menu: Charley G’s Bechamel Crab Cakes - Seasonal Hash with Roasted Pecans, Herb Roasted Garlic Aioli Lobster Scampi - Sautéed Lobster Claw Meat, Wood Grilled Lobster, Linguine, Lemon, Garlic White Wine Cream Sauce, Tobiko Take a date here on Monday, you will not regret it! This is the place to go for a special occasion! Dimly lit, candle on the table, real cloth napkins. I strongly recommend getting reservations over the phone, we started our evening at 6:30 (they open at 5pm). We were a 6 top, and the service from Amanda & Lily was top-notch. There was a piano player/ singer who entertained the restaurant most of the evening. We enjoyed all four courses offered - appetizers of escargot, then our duck gumbo & wedge & house salads. Then we all got different entrees: the catch of the day - black drum w/ lump crab, Sea bass, 8 Oz filet, grilled shrimp, lamb & 6 Oz filet w/ crab cake. Side dishes we choose were corn grits, risotto, corn w/ tasso, & asparagus. Ended the night with coffee & dessert- peaches cheesecake, berry & lavender creme brulee, & brownie cup. We absolutely enjoyed our evening.

We just had a terrible experience at Charlie G's. I am so disappointed in this place that we took our night to enjoy restaurants in the Lafayette area coming here. I would say that the food was not terrible, but the service was the worst experience I have had in a long time. Here are some of the things to watch out for if you go to Charlie G's.

First if they try and seat you in the first few booths along the wall on the right side of the restaurant on a cold night, ask to be reseated. The door in the restaurant does not close properly and there was cold air blowing across our feet and legs the whole meal. You would think that a restaurant of this caliber could have a front door that actually closes all the way.

Next, it took our waitress 40 minutes to take our orders for food, when we had told her we were ready to order when we received our drinks were brought to the table. When we asked to place our food orders a second time she gave us an attitude saying "I did not tknow that we were in a hurry." Forty minutes is not a rush in my book.

At this point, we should have asked for a new waitress but thought that it might get better. Unfortunately, our waitress could not recover from this terrible start. We never got the bread that is normally included with your meal. She did her best to avoid our table altogether and we even had to ask for our check.

I had the sea scallops which were pretty good with a tasty butternut squash puree and candied pumpkin seeds. We had asparagus as a table side which was very woody and the last two inches were very difficult to chew. We also had the grits as a table side which were ok.

The level of service just is not worth the price of eating at Charlie G's. I am absolutely confident that there are many other options in the Lafayette area that...

1/5 👎 for courteous, polite service & enjoyable appetizers but an overpriced menu, unpleasant soup & entree, & disappointing dessert. It seems customers mostly pay for the formal atmosphere, clean restaurant with dim lighting, & ceremony of a fancy meal rather than satisfying food.

The brie cheese-plate & pork-belly appetizers tasted wonderful! However, the service was so sloooow: when our polite & respectful waitress took our appetizer-orders, we were ready to order everything, but we had to order the appetizers & wait for them & finish them before we could order & wait for & finish the “second course” salads & soups; then, we finally ordered the entrees.

The smoked duck gumbo was disappointing: it tasted like a can of dark brown gravy, & nothing else. 😬 My father ordered the same thing & said he could taste a hint of spice, but neither of us liked it.

The crispy duck entree included average asparagus (overpriced), overly cheesy grits, & two duck-wings; the first duck-wings tasted REALLY gamey, especially compared to the second one that I genuinely enjoyed. I don’t know if they presented two different birds, but the first wing’s taste repulsed me whereas I greatly enjoyed the second wing.

Finally, the new raspberry-lime cheesecake that they just started serving recently wasn’t good: the lime overpowered everything; I offered several bites to someone else at the table, & she agreed that the cheesecake just tasted like a key lime pie. It was pretty good if you thought of it as a key lime pie, but that’s wasn’t what I ordered or what’s on the menu. 🤷‍♂️

I recommend eating at other local spots in Lafayette (like T-Coon’s or Ton’s drive-in) with better food & more reasonable prices.

Our meal for 5 people came to...

Place is located in a nice area of town. Very clean and classy at first sight. Piano music was a nice touch. It was my birthday. After reading reviews about birthday perks my husband booked the reservation and we made the drive from Houston. Both servers wished me a happy birthday but no perks. Although I saw 3 other tables with anniversary cards and they even sang happy birthday to another party. Maybe we didn’t look the part🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ we saw the kitchen manager or maître d’ Whomever he was serve the food to each of the tables that were around us when it came out. He asked each of the customers if everything looked OK and if he could bring them anything else before leaving their table. I was wondering why he did not give us the same service. He did not even greet our table at any time during our service. With that being said The aged ribeye was thin way over priced! We have definitely had better. My husband and I shared as it was 16 oz. Our steak was cut in half although I distinctly asked them not to so that we didn’t lose the integrity of the steak or the juices. Sides did come out very hot and tasty. Dessert was offered to each table beside us and in front of us. The server came out with a example board for each of them. When it came to us, he walked up to the table and said “you don’t want any dessert do you?” Talk about Wow! I was blown away! Why did we not receive the same customer service as the other tables. Kind of makes us wonder. This was not the best experience for my birthday to say the least. We did not feel welcome at all, which is sad. We drove all the way from Houston for the experience. We will definitely...
