We just had a terrible experience at Charlie G's. I am so disappointed in this place that we took our night to enjoy restaurants in the Lafayette area coming here. I would say that the food was not terrible, but the service was the worst experience I have had in a long time. Here are some of the things to watch out for if you go to Charlie G's.
First if they try and seat you in the first few booths along the wall on the right side of the restaurant on a cold night, ask to be reseated. The door in the restaurant does not close properly and there was cold air blowing across our feet and legs the whole meal. You would think that a restaurant of this caliber could have a front door that actually closes all the way.
Next, it took our waitress 40 minutes to take our orders for food, when we had told her we were ready to order when we received our drinks were brought to the table. When we asked to place our food orders a second time she gave us an attitude saying "I did not tknow that we were in a hurry." Forty minutes is not a rush in my book.
At this point, we should have asked for a new waitress but thought that it might get better. Unfortunately, our waitress could not recover from this terrible start. We never got the bread that is normally included with your meal. She did her best to avoid our table altogether and we even had to ask for our check.
I had the sea scallops which were pretty good with a tasty butternut squash puree and candied pumpkin seeds. We had asparagus as a table side which was very woody and the last two inches were very difficult to chew. We also had the grits as a table side which were ok.
The level of service just is not worth the price of eating at Charlie G's. I am absolutely confident that there are many other options in the Lafayette area that...
Read more1/5 👎 for courteous, polite service & enjoyable appetizers but an overpriced menu, unpleasant soup & entree, & disappointing dessert. It seems customers mostly pay for the formal atmosphere, clean restaurant with dim lighting, & ceremony of a fancy meal rather than satisfying food.
The brie cheese-plate & pork-belly appetizers tasted wonderful! However, the service was so sloooow: when our polite & respectful waitress took our appetizer-orders, we were ready to order everything, but we had to order the appetizers & wait for them & finish them before we could order & wait for & finish the “second course” salads & soups; then, we finally ordered the entrees.
The smoked duck gumbo was disappointing: it tasted like a can of dark brown gravy, & nothing else. 😬 My father ordered the same thing & said he could taste a hint of spice, but neither of us liked it.
The crispy duck entree included average asparagus (overpriced), overly cheesy grits, & two duck-wings; the first duck-wings tasted REALLY gamey, especially compared to the second one that I genuinely enjoyed. I don’t know if they presented two different birds, but the first wing’s taste repulsed me whereas I greatly enjoyed the second wing.
Finally, the new raspberry-lime cheesecake that they just started serving recently wasn’t good: the lime overpowered everything; I offered several bites to someone else at the table, & she agreed that the cheesecake just tasted like a key lime pie. It was pretty good if you thought of it as a key lime pie, but that’s wasn’t what I ordered or what’s on the menu. 🤷♂️
I recommend eating at other local spots in Lafayette (like T-Coon’s or Ton’s drive-in) with better food & more reasonable prices.

Read morePlace is located in a nice area of town. Very clean and classy at first sight. Piano music was a nice touch. It was my birthday. After reading reviews about birthday perks my husband booked the reservation and we made the drive from Houston. Both servers wished me a happy birthday but no perks. Although I saw 3 other tables with anniversary cards and they even sang happy birthday to another party. Maybe we didn’t look the part🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ we saw the kitchen manager or maître d’ Whomever he was serve the food to each of the tables that were around us when it came out. He asked each of the customers if everything looked OK and if he could bring them anything else before leaving their table. I was wondering why he did not give us the same service. He did not even greet our table at any time during our service. With that being said The aged ribeye was thin way over priced! We have definitely had better. My husband and I shared as it was 16 oz. Our steak was cut in half although I distinctly asked them not to so that we didn’t lose the integrity of the steak or the juices. Sides did come out very hot and tasty. Dessert was offered to each table beside us and in front of us. The server came out with a example board for each of them. When it came to us, he walked up to the table and said “you don’t want any dessert do you?” Talk about Wow! I was blown away! Why did we not receive the same customer service as the other tables. Kind of makes us wonder. This was not the best experience for my birthday to say the least. We did not feel welcome at all, which is sad. We drove all the way from Houston for the experience. We will definitely...
