Can be hit or miss. They seem to be back on track now but in the past:
Don’t like to leave bad reviews but I’ve been the victim of serious cross contamination issues in the food prep the last two times here. I had been ordering fairly frequently and things were good until quite recently, but the dal (and/or biryani rice?) last night made me quite sick. The first time it happened (with a different dish) I did not connect it to their food, but it clicked this time since I did not eat anything else last night (and it was a lot worse). Very sad that they don’t seem to be able to clean or to make things properly any more.
No restaurant should serve food that makes your stomach violently ill. Especially vegetarian food. There’s nothing in that which should be a biohazard. Also asked for mild and it was very far along the scale of spicy (maybe not to full burn, which I can usually deal with but just don’t like much, but way more than mild).
As noted prices are pretty expensive and service/wait time is spotty. Carry out used to be good but was very slow this time. They had plenty of time to fully cook it so I’m not sure what happened. May have partly been the biryani rice which was oddly the accompanying rice rather than regular and did not seem that fresh. Maybe it was all reheated or leftover from an old buffet. The previous dish that gave me troubles had to be freshly made since it was customized, so not on the menu that way. The kitchen can’t be clean.
Very disappointed. They used to be very good. It’s just been in the last few weeks that the food changed.
There are not many Indian food options here at all so that’s also very disappointing. Madras had been pretty good (they don’t usually listen to the spice level but at least have never make me sick). The bar...
Read moreAnother tremendous dining experience with Elizabeth Savoy and Daniel Bernard. On Liz’s recommendation, we visited Destination India Restaurant and Bar. So happy we did! It’s so fun to get together and try many dishes.
Drinks Mango Lassi Masala Tea
Starters Chili Naan Cheese Naan Basil Garlic Naan Cauliflower 65!
Entrees Goat Biryani Góngora Chicken Egg Fried Rice Lamb Jalfrezi
Dessert Gulab Jamun
Big thanks to our server, AJ! He was excellent, and the service was great. He even took some pics of the oven for me. Awesome.
I started with a couple of Indian drinks. The mango lassi is served chilled and very good, and somewhat filling. The Masala tea is served hot and has a nice cardamon flavor. Good stuff.
The Naan breads are delicious. While they offer many, we ordered the basket and chose three. You have to get the garlic basil naan. Ohmygosh! The cauliflower 65 is breaded with well-seasoned rice flour and deep fried. It was served with a nice dipping sauce. Honestly, this could have passed as chicken nuggets—so good.
We all ordered four different entrees and shared. Danny did get his hot, while the rest of us ordered medium spice—ideal spice for my palate. All of them were very good. I loved the different spices in these dishes.
Our dessert was terrific—recommended!
The menu here is extensive, and I can’t wait to try more items. As we were about to leave, someone’s tandoori chicken was coming out—oh my, I have to get that next time. It looked and smelled so good.
Thanks again, Danny and Liz, for joining us. It’s always great to visit over great food with...
Read moreIndian is my all time favorite cuisine and I have been to Indian restaurants all over the eastern United States. Let me just say that Destination India is without a doubt the worst Indian restaurant, and one of the worst restaurants in general, I have ever been to. The palak paneer (saag) was absolutely awful. The dal was practically inedible. The only dish we enjoyed was the samosas. The waiter was inattentive. I knew we were in trouble when the server first came to our table to pour water. Every server worth his/her weight in feathers knows you pick up each glass and pour the water away from the table. Our server left each glass ON the table while he poured, splashing water all over me and all four of us at the table. This may seem like a small detail, but it's little details like this that make the difference between a fine restaurant and a poor one. Top everything off with (1) the absolutely horrible music they blast in the dining room (why not some soft traditional Indian music rather than horrible Westernized Indian music videos? and (2) The outrageous prices, and your left with a highly...
