Dumpling Hour — Restaurant in Lafayette

I ordered Chef Su's Spicy Beef with Glass Noodles and a side of Beef Pot Stickers during my visit, and I had high hopes based on the menu descriptions.

Starting with the Beef Pot Stickers, I was quite disappointed. The flavor was incredibly bland, lacking any seasoning or spice that would typically enhance such a dish. The texture was chewy to the point of being unappealing, and I found myself struggling to enjoy them. They were not edible, but honestly, I wouldn’t recommend them—Costco’s frozen beef pot stickers far outshine these and provide a much more satisfying experience.

Now onto the Chef Su's Spicy Beef with Glass Noodles. At first glance, the dish looked enticing, and as someone who loves a good kick of heat, my excitement was palpable. However, my anticipation quickly turned to frustration upon tasting the broth. It was served at a scalding temperature that left me unable to enjoy it immediately, as it burned my tongue. The beef itself was again quite chewy and lacked the seasoning I expected; it didn't deliver on the spice front that the menu had promised. I found myself unable to eat, forced to wait for the dish to cool down, which felt like an eternity.

Additionally, I was surprised to discover a charge of $1.99 for refills on drinks. I believe it would have been courteous for the staff to provide a heads-up about this policy, as I wasn’t expecting to pay full price again for a refill.

I sincerely hope they take this feedback into consideration to make improvements in the future. Wishing them...

UPDATE: We returned last night to try the food again now that they have spent time open. The service was much better. However, the two of us that ate the Orange Chicken have spent our night sick and our morning vomiting it back up. I so badly wanted to have a dim sum place here, but considering the issues we’ve had, we will not be returning.

I really wanted to love the place but the service was disappointing. Tables came and went while we waited. Others waited a while to even have a drink order taken. The first time we came we were told the wait for 2 people was 2 hours. I called ahead tonight and was told the wait was for 20 minutes. We waited our 20 minutes and got sat after waiting around 10 minutes, not bad at all. After placing an order, it took quite some time to get our drinks. At about 40 minutes we got 2/7 items (Orange chicken and Green Onion Pancakes). It took an additional 30 minutes to get one more item (Pork Soup dumplings). After waiting an additional 20 minutes we got 2 orders of Chicken soup dumplings and the Chicken Chow Mein. None of the dumplings had soup, I sent one set back and got a replacement, still with no soup. 20 minutes later we got our fried pork bao, this was after asking to get the item to go and being told it was given to the wrong table. Upon trying it at home, it was still raw inside. We asked for refills multiple times throughout the course of the meal, but never...

Definitely will not be returning or recommending this place to anyone. Got the soup dumplings… without soup. Seen our dumplings sitting for a while waiting to be brought to our table. Finally the server brought them and they were so dry. (picture included) Ate 2 of them thinking they were going to be good. I am not a picky eater but I did not like this food at.all. When me and my sister told the server he said “yeah they were sitting up there for a while, because i was helping other customers so they have to get to the table within 5 minutes or the soup evaporats. That’s why there isn’t any soup.” soooo… that wasn’t our fault… He stood there and we had to ask for new ones. The manager came over and tried to prove me wrong 🤣making me open every one to see if they had soup… come on now. She said “there is soup in there you have to open it with the spoon…. “ she said “open that one. oh okay. open that one. see that one has some. open that one.” DRY. 1 of them had a little bit of soup in it… She said ”I can get another order of them.” So we did.
