We were in Lafayette and decided to Google for a nice Soul food restaurant. This place Hub City Diner was listed under Soul food restaurant. When we arrived to the location the place looked liked an old school diner from the 60’s. When we walked in and over to the host station we grabbed a menu to place our order. The place had a few guest but wasn’t overly crowded. The host who was a polite young male, greeted us and asked if we were dunning in and let him know when we were ready to order. The menu had more breakfast options to choose from than dinner options. My mind was set on Red Beans & rice, so I ordered Red Beans and rice, and fried Catfish. The host asked if I wanted a cup of red beans & rice or a plate of red beans & rice? I commented a plate of red beans & rice because I’m so hungry. He explained the Catfish came with a side of pilaf rice and a veggie on the side. I ordered the pilaf rice and broccoli with the fried Catfish as well. My husband ordered the Salisbury Steak, Mashed potatoes & gravy, and broccoli on the side. Because I’m from New Orleans we eat beignets all the time. For dessert, I ordered beignets and my husband ordered the bread pudding. The service was quick. Within fifteen minutes we received our food, packed and ready to go. We arrived at our hotel and immediately went to our room. After opening the plates, I was a little disappointed in the size portion of the red beans. It was a cup size placed in a to go plate. But the Red Beans had a great taste but I had more rice than Red Beans and threw the extra rice away. The Catfish was steamed and the breading was separated from the fish. The Salisbury Steak, mashed potatoes with the gravy and broccoli had no seasoning and no taste. The bread pudding was a little stiff but it tasted okay without the sauce. We couldn’t tell if the sauce was supposed to have been a Rum sauce but it was definitely broke. They reheated it in the microwave and the butter separated. The Beignets were very tasty because the pastry was soft & flaky. Overall I wouldn’t rate this place as a Soul Food restaurant. Food was to bland and the portion size was not what we’re use too. The price wasn’t bad but the quality of the food wasn’t worth the price. Hub City Diner is overrated. The restaurant needs a makeover. There is no Soul in food if there is no taste. “If you ain’t sneezing then it’s...
Read moreI had never been to Hub City Diner, and I was really excited to come here. I love the small diner feel and Hub City definitely has that vibe to it. The service was quick and the food upon first look and taste is great. However, you may be wondering, if my service was good and the first impression of my food was great, why the two star review? It's been a few weeks since I have eaten at this establishment, and the reason it has taken me so long to write a review is because I needed time to consider what needs to be said (with a little less raw emotion).
I had come here with my boyfriend, and we were able to find our own table and were served immediately. Our drinks were always full and our food came out quickly. (I would recommend their sweet potato pancakes if you get a chance to go.) As I made my way around my plate, I found two long dark hairs hidden under my sunny side up eggs. Upon finding this, my stomach immediately turned over and I had to rush to the restroom to purge any food I had previously consumed. As I was gone, my boyfriend spoke to the manager who informed him that he doesn't know how hair that looks like that could get under the eggs because the chef doesn't have hair like that. Needless to say, it doesn't matter whos hair it was, it was unacceptable for it to be there. They did comp us the price of the meal, but we ended up tipping the server its cost, because again, everything was enjoyable up until that point, and we weren't complaining to get free food (even though I left the diner with less in me than I arrived).
I will say however, the women's restroom was in bad shape before I got in there, which was my second motivator to hurl, the restroom could honestly use some major scrubbing.
Overall, it will be a while before I can talk myself into going back to Hub City Diner, but I wouldn't stop...
Read moreI went to Hub City Diner for the very first time today and OMG, their onion rings and fried fish, have to be the absolute best I’ve ever had. A friend of mine had to finally convince me to go over there and I am so glad that she did. Their fried fish is amazing. The only thing that would make it better is if it were the whole catfish, but for filets , it does not get better than that. I’ve decided that when I go back, I definitely want the fried catfish. In the choices below, I would recommend the fried catfish, but it’s not an option in that list😢 I was so impressed with this place today, then I’m bringing my Lunch Group there next month.💙💙🌹🌹💚💚 And we had the most amazing, fun, attentive, sweetest waitress, ever. Her name is Ellie, and if you ever have the chance to get her as a waitress, do yourself a favor and ask for her by name. She is just incredible.♥️💙🌹🌹💙♥️ I will definitely be back often and Ellie. You can wait for me to request you to be our waitress anytime I go. You’re the...
