Charming ambience, five-star presentation, delicious food that leaves you just a little disappointed. We visited for lunch during the week. It was busy, but not crowded. There is ample seating both inside and out, with partial views of the mountains, though most tables are two seaters so larger parties might have an issue with finding space. The vibe is laid back; it's a great spot for a brunch date, but not a place to just hangout and read or work like you might at a coffee shop.
The food, while good, left both my sister and I slightly disappointed. The quiche was the clear winner on taste, but for the price ($14+tax), the piece was alarmingly small. The croque monsieur was a cheese-lovers dream, but even this cheese-loving girl found it overwhelmed the taste of the brioche and the ham (of which there was only the smallest of slices). Both entrees came with a side salad that again, while good, was lacking since it was just lettuce and dressing. Maybe add some tomatoes, cucumbers, and red onions and it would be better. As for the chocolate croissant, my review is mixed. It's clear the ingredients are top-notch, the dark chocolate is perfect and not overly sweet, but the whole thing tasted like it had been in the oven just a few minutes too long. The outside was very crispy, which made the layers taste a bit tough instead of that buttery, flaky flavor you'd hope for. I'm wondering if it was just an off day, as this was my second time eating one, and the first I remember as much better.
My sister, who just came back from a year long stay in Europe, said they were inferior to true French croissants, and at $5 a piece, a couple dollars more expensive.
Take-away- come for a pastry or a dessert, skip the full meals, and plan to go at off hours if you have a...
Read moreWanted to try somewhere new with my partner and this place had great reviews. When we arrived the line was out the door. I can deal with a wait but their set up was quite inefficient. All dine in and take out go to the same line and the one register they have in the store. I saw tons of worker but only 2 were working on the line.
When we got to the register, I was a bit surprised by the price. We got 2 baked goods, one quiche no side, one sandwich no side, and one hot chocolate. It came out to about $50 dollars. I thought the price was a bit expensive so assumed the food would be very high quality. I was wrong.
We were told the food would take 15-20 minutes and the hot chocolate would be out fast. The hot chocolate came out in a few minutes. Once the server gave us the drink they took our number with them. I had to chase them down as we still needed our number for the food. The drink was extremely small for 6 bucks. The rest of the food came out in around 20 minutes. There was alot of people so the wait is to be expected. We opened the food and was a bit underwhelmed with the look.
Got home to eat it and every item left us disappointed. The quiche was over salted and very soggy. The sandwich had very dry and salty eggs. The croissant was a bit over baked. The lemon curd pastry was extremely over baked. The best item was the morning bun and it was the quality you would get at your local super market.
Overall way too much money and time then it is worth. It took a full hour from walking in the door to leaving. There are many other bakeries around that are...
Read moreWonderful little place. The pastries are—well—the best! They were so beautiful that I took pictures and sent them to my daughter and put them on my Facebook page. The owner is French (he grew up in France) and trained there and Canada. You could say he’s a prodigy of sorts because he went to Canada to train when he was very young (in his teens). Their “regular” food is good too. A bit different combinations but I like it. It’s a limited selection, but let’s face it: You don’t go there primarily for regular food. At least I don’t. They have coffee and hot tea. (Assume iced tea as well.) With coffee you help yourself to free refills. I got hot tea. They give you one teabag in a small teapot that holds enough water for one cup of tea. When you finish your cup of tea…what? Do you go to the counter and get another tea bag? There’s a wait for that, unlike with coffee. Do you have to pay for the tea bags? Coffee refills are free. The in-house coffee and tea cups are darling. I was there on a cold day and I sat in a chilly corner. They had a little space heater there which made it nice and toasty. Oh. The co-owner/wife is a wine expert and they sell wine there by the bottle. Maybe by the glass too. It’s probably a wonderful selection. I’m not really a wine drinker so I can’t say but I’ll wager she knows her “stuff”. The people there are friendly...
