I was in there about a few days ago to get some sweet treats to satisfy my cravings. I heard wonders about this place, but never tried it, so I went in for a chocolate cupcake. Upon walking in I noticed the floor was wet so I tried walking cautiously when reverting back to open the door for someone. When I went to do that I instantly slipped and fell on my back and my side. The only person who reached out to help me was the person who was about to walk out of the door. The person behind the counter did not come out to see if I was okay, to ask if I needed anything, or to help me up. I fell very hard. There was no wet floor sign, even though we got snow a few days before, and it was already starting to melt. It was wet everywhere. After the person in front of me was assisted I walked up to the counter and all the girl upfront offered was poor-mannered, âSorry about that,â and she gave me a 50% off. I didnât care for the 50% off, nor did I care for her fake apology. I told her that she needed to put a wet floor sign out because that was a liability. I couldâve called 911, or I couldâve sued, or I couldâve done just about anyway after having been sore and bruised for days. My biggest concern is the fact that anyone could go through what I went through. I am a young, able-bodied person, but some people arenât like myself. Some women are pregnant, carry infants, some people are elderly, and not as able-bodied as I am. This couldâve gone really, really badly, and if I wouldâve hurt my head it wouldâve been much worse. Iâm very disappointed at the fact that the next day I called to speak to the owner or manager, and the person who answered the phone said, âWell, we donât have a manager here because itâs a small business with two owners,â or something along those lines, as if that were the importance of my call. I left a message for one of the owners to return my call because the other one had just had surgery. Thatâs not my business to know, but they made sure I did anyway. Five days later Iâm still waiting for them to call me. As much as I love to support small businesses, mom and pop shops, and local vendors, I will not be returning to Mammawâs Sweet Shoppe. This is the most low form of customer service I have ever received, not to mention I didnât even get to speak to someone else about it. I will not recommend anyone to go. As far as the cakes went, which I still bought 4, the flavor is decent in the cake, but the icing taste like it came out of an old box. It does not taste homemade, and itâs a little bitter and just plain bland. Thanks...
Read moreIf you have been anywhere near Lafayette, IN you know that Mammaw's is the place to go for cupcakes. So it is no surprise that when the love of my life purposed that it was no question where we were getting our cake from. Aaron Brown was helpful at first, but after taking the deposit and booking them he did a 180. My caterer wanted to know when the cake was being delivered so i asked Aaron. He told me it will get there when it gets there. I then informed him that i want it there no later than 3. He told me with all do respect i have enough cakes to bring to weddings that day, and that it would be there in time. I was very stressed out so my fiance called him when he got home and Aaron told him he would have it there by noon and that he emailed me. He never emailed me. Then i had one of his associates text me about what shade of gold would be good. So i picked one and then once again gave her a picture of the cake that i had in mind. She told me she had that picture. Well its safe to say it looked nothing like my picture. When you pay that kind of money you should get what you ordered. We decided on a "fake cake" because Aaron told us that was a cheaper way to go. Well cheap indeed. When my husband and myself went to cut the designated pieces they had put in there it was all mush when we put it on the plate it just fell apart. To top it off it had been nearly a month and we still had not received our deposit back, When my husband called Aaron he said he didn't know. Its safe to say after tooth and nail we got the deposit back yesterday. The employee Aaron was incredibly unprofessional during this whole entire process. If your just looking for a cupcake then go to Mammaw's, but if you want a wedding cake take your...
Read moreI had a mishap on Friday with a cake I had purchased for my daughterâs 24th birthday and found myself in quite a bind because we were going to have a little party for her at the Purdue tailgate the next day. Yes, I could have just picked up a generic bakery store cake, but my daughter always celebrated her birthday with my mom who passed away a few months ago, and we wanted to commemorate her birthday as well, so I wanted to have an angel on the cake and have the cake decorated in bright yellow, which was my momâs favorite color. I called a couple of places in Indianapolis, which is where I live, with no luck. It was then I decided to just Google bakeries in Lafayette and I came across Mammawâs Sweet Shop. I called and shared my story with Natalie on Friday afternoon around 1 PM and though they typically require a 72-hour notice, after hearing my plight, she very graciously agreed to do the cake for me and my husband picked up a beautiful medium sheet cake at 10 AM Saturday morning, and it was everything I had hoped for and more. Aside from it being decorated just perfectly, the cake and icing were both amazing! We went through just about that entire cake and I canât tell you all the comments we got on how flavorful and moist the cake was, and how perfect the icing was. I now know that when I am getting any cake for future Purdue tailgates, I have to look no further than Mammawâs Sweet Shop! THANK YOU Natalie for everything you did for me, and by extension, my daughter. You have no idea how much I...
