I had dinner here with my wife and her family tonight. We ordered quite a lot of food and everything tasted pretty good. There were many annoying hiccups with the service, like them forgetting to bring out certain items, things being wrong, and us having to remind them several times but we understand they were busy.
However, my mother-in-law asked for ketchup and when she tried it, she realized it was spoiled. The ketchup bottle was rancid - and weirdly discolored. She didn’t have any more of it but we didn’t immediately tell any of the workers just because the place was busy and they were already having a hard enough time with our order. We tried to move past it but she kept feeling worse and eventually had to excuse herself to puke outside.
We went back to the desk to let the staff know that they were serving spoiled ketchup but the first guy we talked to just walked past us. Another staff member came up and insisted he didn’t work there, yet he was in the kitchen area (touching food and eating).
The other member took our complaint and went to let the manager or owner know, but the owner refused to come out to talk to us directly, instead she resorted to communicating to us through a hostess/waitress. The owner kept insisting that the ketchup was fine, that she switched it out every day and called us liars to the waitress. Eventually, after we showed the waitress the bottle of ketchup, the owner came out and started arguing with us. We asked her to try the ketchup but she made the poor waitress try it, and she immediately spit it out and nodded when I asked if it was spoiled (no complaints about the waitress btw, mostly about her boss). Then the owner asked why we didn’t tell them sooner, trying to make it our fault somehow, but we explained that my mother-in-law didn’t want to cause a fuss. We insisted that we weren’t asking for a refund and merely wanted to alert her and have her take some accountability. But after quickly saying how she will change the ketchup serving procedure she just said that she had to go back to work and went back to the kitchen. Wouldn’t have written a bad review if there had been an apology on their behalf, but the way she acted was completely ridiculous. No apologies, absolutely no attempts to remedy the situation in any way whatsoever, nor partial refunds were offered . I don’t believe I’d ever encountered such blatant disregard of...
Read morePita Grill is my new favorite place to eat in Lafayette! There is finally a great middle eastern spot where the portions are actually worth the price. You can easily turn one entre into two meals. I've been multiple times now and have yet to be disappointed.
My favorite dish is the chicken and hummus entre, which consists of a thick bed of hummus with a heaping amount of chicken on top, a side salad and a beautiful garlic sauce. I'm very picky about my hummus and care about consistency, not just taste and this hummus is perfection. Make sure you save room for some handmade, pistachio baklava! It's the best you'll find for miles.
I think that it's important to remember that this is a small, family run business. Although I have only experienced amazing things here, are things going to be 100% perfect all the time? Probably not, but I do know that the owner always greets me with a warm smile and friendly conversation. She has made a point to remember my name and always goes above and beyond when I'm in. I really hope that anyone who may have stopped in on an off day decides to give this place a...
Read moreMy guest and I found this restaurant a little strange. It's a bit of a cross between a fast food joint and a sit-down restaurant.
Some people were coming in and ordered at the counter for takeout while others were sitting at tables where you could be served, not by a dedicated waiter but rather a person who seemed to move between the kitchen and the dining area doing multiple tasks.
The taste of the food was fine. Not superlative, but fine. When we ate there at noon, the table was not cleared after we finished our meal and we are thinking about dessert. Then apparently we are expected to use the same fork we use for dinner for the dessert which was not all that appealing. We had to ask for clean forks
We asked and found out they do not have beer at this restaurant and we discussed going next door to the brewery but it was closed. Maybe this interaction or something else ticked off the lady helping us and she was surly the rest of the meal. Or maybe that's her natural demeanor.
A lot of people seem to love the place so I certainly recommend you give it a try. But be aware it's not a typical...
