You start out with home made chips and salsa. The menu has a variety of dishes to choose from. For drinks we like the Horchata here. It is a cinnamon rice drink, and it is delicious. I had a three item combo, a taco, gordita and a sope. My meal came with rice and beans. I was not able to finish my meal. I can eat a lot, but both the gordita and sope filled me up. I took half my meal home. My wife ordered the chicken nachos. The small portion is big and they not stingy with the chicken. They bring a green and red salsa. They are great with the meal. The green is spicy and the red not as much. The food is good regardless of what you order. The service is good and fast. They have a tv with Spanish shows and there is a good atmosphere. Give them a try and you will be glad you did. Enjoy your time!

If I could give the food a 0/10 I would. I ordered Arroz Con Pollo and my chicken looked straight from a can. Before I could even take one bite of it the cheese looked a little like jelly. I poked it with my fork and the cheese JIGGLED. The Gordo's Queso has a longer heat time than whatever was on my plate. I've worked in food for 6 years and I would never feel comfortable serving that to a customer. My corn tortillas were soggy and traditionally those are supposed to have a more dense texture (non-existent). The salsa was the taste of mild verde but the color of tabasco with no tomato base. All in all my first and last experience at Taco Rico, my friends and I couldn't even pay for our meal. Unfortunately I didn't think to snap a picture of my meal before returning it to the cook.

Pros: this is the most authentic Mexican food in Lafayette they serve large portions of food and probably the only few Mexican restaurants to still put salsa and chips in your table for free prices are very reasonable Cons: The salsa that was served with the chips was like ketchup with chopped onions I requested the server if she can bring more spicy sauces and she gave us red sauce and green sauce both salsas were tasteless only spicy We went there on Saturday the place was full which was hard trying to find our server to order extra drinks they never checked with us if we need anything during our meal just once you order food and at the end when they bring the check Overall it’s wasn’t a bad experience but I feel that this place needs to improve their salsas and service

Let me first say that I have never written a one star review for any restaurant. We had heard good things about it and came in expecting things to be at least good.

  1. We waited for 5 minutes before anyone even came to the table.
  2. Asked for water with lemon and got lime.
  3. Thought to myself, at least the food can't be as bad as the menu...
  4. After we ordered, she came back with drinks and salsa. I have been to over 20 Mexican restaurants in my life and have loved some and found some salsa passable, but this was inedible. The chips it came with were so hard that I had to move it to my molars to be able to chew.
  5. We thought about trying to cancel our order the salsa was so bad, but we thought they can't do everything wrong and get good reviews.
  6. Food took about 3x as long as typical Mexican restaurants
  7. My fiancee's food was cold and the flavor profile was so bad she asked for something different on the menu for the first time in her life. The waitress was nice about it and she ordered tacos instead. Her tacos came out fast and were edible.
  8. My fajitas were cooked fairly well. The serving size was substantially smaller than I expected for the price point.
  9. The sides of rice and beans were seasoned even worse than the salsa. I have never had a problem with rice or bean in any restaurant from any style of food, but I couldn't get past the first bite.
  10. The waitress was very slow but nice. I don't like slow service, but this review is all about the horrible food.
  11. The aftertaste in my mouth was so bad that I went to Wendy's to get a Frosty. I should have gotten a large as medium was not enough to get the horrible taste out...

We had a fantastic meal here, it was truly delicious and really the best authentic Mexican food you can get in Lafayette. Their hot sauces are out of this world. Pro tip--you can buy them by the bottle! Highly recommend both the green and red sauces. The tacos are great, as is the salsa, the burritos are great portions and so delicious. Really every dish we've tried has been so good, no complaints as far as food goes. Usually the service is pretty great as well, but the last two or three times we went there, we had awful service. Our server was rude from the very start, and sat playing with her phone pretty much the whole time. She had to be prompted to take our orders, to run our food to us, and eventually another employee just closed out the check for her because it was quite obvious she had no interest in doing her job. It was really disappointing, as was the check, the prices had increased quite a bit at some point recently, and really, the value wasn't there. I mean, we were charged almost $60 for chips and salsa, a burrito, a torta combo, and two drinks (we were charged for a new drink each time it was refilled, which wouldn't bother me if I had asked for a refill and that price was clearly expressed on the menu.) I really do like the food, but the prices were far beyond the actual value of the food, experience, and...

Food is good I can't complain. I love the taco combos and micheladas. Depending on the day maybe a shrimp tostada or a menudo. The food is not bad at all. We keep going there for a reason. What I would like to address is the customer service. My friends and family have been going there for years. We go there too often. It is a very centralized location. It really upsets me when you ask for something and right away the waitress catches an attitude. We obviously want to be treated kindly. Hospitality goes a long way. Maricela was great and I really miss her being there. She always had a smile for us and gave great customer service. I have not seen her or talked to her since she stopped working there. We just want to eat and have a good time with our friends and family. The goal is not to upset anyone. I hope the servers there read this and honestly if you don't want to walk to our table and give us good customer service pass the table to someone else. Or if we are too much to handle please allow us to pick up our own orders at the...
