Insanely overpriced, price gouging at its finest, entirely too easy to spend ten dollars on a basic frappe drink here; this sort of nonsense is corporate trash at full morally dead ideals. I also noticed that a large latte does not give you the additional shot of espresso like in any other normal coffee shop. They only give you more milk! Not to mention their alternative dairy options are hilariously pricey, could almost be forgiven the big city costs if this was a exclusive club with atmosphere to match, executively trained staff, and a loyalty program that worked with those frequently here. However, there is no rewards program. Inside is a basic, simple, easy to enjoy set up but nothing fancy to match the menu numbers. It's the same with the food. The basic breakfast is easily chipping into fifteen dollars with a tip and tax. I cannot believe people who ignore all the other move value and customer tuned options like Sacred Grounds, Eleventh House, Star City, and Indie Coffee and rather spend way more for arguably less. There's no seasonal menu. The coffee roast is crafted here but very bitter forward and fails to pair well with any of their syrups. I personally enjoy the much better selection and value at Sacred Grounds, more delightful value of Eleventh House, and tasty original options at Indie. Maybe someday The Lobby and Greyhouse will match their obnoxious prices but...
Read moreNicely renovated, definitely more of a cool modern eatery vibe than the cozy coffeeshop I was for some reason expecting. Reaching for more of an upscale look. Not the place you want to cozy down in to knit or bring children.
Food was good with room for improvement (quiche crust was amazing, texture of the filling a little different from the norm and not to my taste, but well cooked. Biscuits were good, eggs undercooked). Drinks were stunning, as always (Greyhouse always delivers on the drinks)!
Seating near the front is bright and sunny and a delight, (near the back near the black theater curtain and dirty restrooms, not so much). Grab a seat near the front when you can (but watch out, the majority of the seating is uncomfortable kitchen chairs, some not so sturdy). I love that they went for gender neutral restrooms, but the two-stall, 2 bathroom arrangement with a stall neglecting a purse hook and diaper changing station is asking for a little more attention to detail.
Ordering at the table via QR code is convenient and smooth. Menu is simple and beautiful, prices clearly marked and bill easy to split amongst a group. Easy payment and not having to wait for a check is a good touch. Food was delivered promptly and hot.
Since they've just opened I'm assuming there is some room for adjustments along the way. I may stop in for a coffee every now and then but probably...
Read moreBest cappuccino I've had in years! And I live in a large city with plenty of cafés. On the menu, it's called the Grey Capp, FYI. When it arrived, I thought it looked too small for my morning wake-up needs, but it was strong! And it was a great smooth, tasty blend. We ended up buying a package of the same coffee to take home (they'll grind the beans for you here). The previous day, we had stopped in for an afternoon cup of tea. As anyone from any of the Commonwealth countries knows, the US doesn't know how to serve tea. But this place gets it (almost) right! You do have to ask for cream and sugar. They have the most beautiful teapots ("For Life" brand, which they also sell here-- I checked) that steep the tea just right and pour without dripping. Most of all, the staff are super hospitable and accommodating, both at tea time and at breakfast. The decor is gracious and inviting. Breakfast was nice -- I had avocado toast with a poached egg. The avocado toast was refrigerator cold (my only complaint) but very tasty which made up for it. Next time I'm in town, I'll be back here! When I last lived in West Lafayette 27 years ago, the only coffee you could get was a cup of Maxwell House at some diner. There wasn't even a Starbucks here. Wish Greyhouse was as ubiquitous as Starbucks because they seem to really know and...
