An honest review. I was super excited for this place. I am by no means a foodie / critic / professional chef. I only know I grew up in this area thinking Arni’s was perfect pizza then I grew up. (Still love Arni’s) but you know what I’m saying. I am not a designer. I was a bartender for a long time (years ago ) so I will only touch briefly on service. Any new restaurant will have some growing pains and needs time to get things in order. This review should not be the end all be all. Just an honest review.
Atmosphere. The restaurant is beautiful. The tile on the walls and the art gives a Chicago feel with a new downtown Lafayette at its heart. Bathrooms were very clean, and the tile work in there was excellent also. (Very pretty blue accent tile in the men’s room.) The only issue I had, were the tables. Not a fan of the checkered table cloth look in the main dining areas, but that’s Just my opinion. Gives too much of a picnic vibe.
Food, by defining a deep-dish pizza, is a thick pizza baked in a pan and layered with cheese, fillings like meat and vegetables, and sauce–in that order. With only some variation. This is by definition a deep dish pizza. No matter what other reviews will say.
Crust, buttery, flakey, mine could have only used a smidge! A SMIDGE! Longer in the oven. It wasn’t undercooked at all. I also was one of the first people to get a carry out so maybe the oven just needed a little more time to warm up completely.
Cheese, lots of cheese no notes, globs of fresh mozzarella are always almost always a win in book.
Toppings, you could tell the veggies were fresh had a nice snap to them. Pepperoni’s were fine. Sausage, was really good! They have it written that it’s their blend and you could tell it’s fresh made, or in house, just not the usual and I loved it. Nice big pieces good flavor, the star of my experience!
The downside of the food. So Many Seasonings… so much salt. I read a review that said “not enough salt” they might have taken it to heart.. mine was almost too much, like almost polished off a whole bottle of water with each piece I ate. Fresh mozzarella is salty! Adding more salt doesn’t help. Could just be new cooks and learning consistency, I’d understand that completely. But, I was bloated and thirsty after we ate.
It was the same with the breadsticks, the dough was so soft and amazing but by each bite I wanted a drink afterwards.
Service, you can absolutely tell they are still getting their bearings and figuring out how they operate. The kitchen will get it down, the servers will get better. Nothing I saw was bad! Just watched people standing around waiting for something to do, while drinks were empty or food sitting in the pass through waiting to be taken to the carry out desk.
Side note, not the biggest fan of the hours. There is a huge market you’re missing out on when you’re not open for lunch on a football Saturday in this town.
Overall, I will absolutely be back. I want to see them grow and succeed. I want to know if they can hit their stride and get consistency down. They have a lot of potential just need some minor adjustments and I think this could easily be a great addition to the...
Read moreArrived, seated in a few minutes, after take-out and pickup customers were taken care of. Two other couples seated after us. About 15 minutes later, a server stopped first at the 3rd of the tables, to take their drink order. We were 2nd, the 2nd couple (and their additional guests that joined during the wait) were 3rd. The visible beer taps are not yet dispensing, have to choose from a small selection of bottled or canned. I ordered Gumballhead and an appetizer. Gumballhead was announced on delivery, but it was a can of Zombie Dust. (I didn't fuss, still hopeful, drank it) The fried appetizer items were similar to a below average bar or greasy spoon, likely from Gordon or some other pre-made wholesaler. Beer and appetizer plate clearly empty, we waited (and waited and waited and waited...) for someone, anyone, to return to take our pizza order. (and order another drink) After over an hour without any service, we decided to give up, walked up to the counter to pay the bill. We have no idea what the pizza tastes like, because God only knows what time we might have been served it, if at all. It's in a good location and the decor was pleasant, but if the service doesn't improve, that...
Read moreThe experience here was highly disappointing. First off this restaurant claims to serve Chicago style deep dish. Either they are not aware what Chicago style deep dish is or they lied. Chicago style deep dish is not a thick crust with cheese on top. This pizza was a very poorly made Detroit style pizza. There are several places in town that make this style pizza and make it actually crispy not just burn the end. The pizza tasted ok but the price was ridiculous. It would make sense for a real deep dish pizza but not for this style. I order a personal pizza. I also ordered to go. It took 45 minutes for the pizza. I was fine with the wait when I thought I was an actual deep dish but knowing this style take at the longest 25 minutes to make it was quite disappointing how long the wait was. I ordered to go and I came back to get the pizza I received no call or anything about it the pizza was ready. When I got there the pizza was barely warm. There pizza does taste ok but I have review many places here in Lafayette and they're not even close to one of the best. They actually on the side of one of bad pizzarias. I highly recommend not coming here especially if you want a real Chicago...
