Sergio's Empanadas — Restaurant in Laguna Beach

Had a quick lunch here after flying in from Toronto and it’s really good. The empanadas were all very flavourful and delicious, with what tastes like an Italian twist (in the chimichurri sauce). I got their chicken pot pie, chicken and mushroom, and beef and potato flavours. All great. The pastry dough was perfect too.

I just came back from Italy so I had to try their gelato too out of curiosity.

I sampled the Italian classics (tiramisu, Stracciatella, and mango sorbet). I have to say the tiramisu tasted a bit artificially flavoured which was disappointing, and the straccciatella lacked flavour. I don’t blame the owner though, Italian quality chocolate chips, flavourings, and cream are hard to come by in North America.

However, the mango sorbet was very delicious and flavourful, I could taste fresh mangoes. The other flavour I picked was the hazelnut crunch, and it was also surprisingly delicious. The hazelnuts were fresh, and tasted...

Wow! The Mrs and I came for a date together, and ran into a GEM! I don't normally leave reviews, but this time I finished my food before my wife (😇😉) and had time to leave a review. I love gelato, but didn't need some after my beef and cheese empanada and soup combo! Clam chowder with bacon was an amazing combo for sure. Oh and whatever they give you in that little mini cup, on top of every bite of the empanada....I died and came to life again after every mouthful lol. Super impressed with this GEM of a place in Laguna. This will be a "spot" for us here whenever we are in town! Ok I'm done...good...

Empanadas are okay if you don’t like a lot of seasoning. Staff was unfriendly towards my Hispanic family members. (When a Caucasian member of the family asked for the closest bathroom, the staff provided a door code to use their bathroom despite having posted signs stating they had no bathroom for the public. When a Hispanic member of the family asked the same question the staff simply told them, “We don’t have a bathroom.”) Very disrespectful and disappointing to see a restaurant using culture that the staff does not...
