Oak Laguna Beach — Restaurant in Laguna Beach

Great food and service in a modern sleek dining room in a great central location in Laguna Beach. You enter the restaurant upstairs from a pizza spot on the corner and when you go inside it is very nice. The atmosphere is young and vibrant with a happening bar and stylish decor. People are well dressed and the staff is on top of their game from the moment you enter. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly although it was quite busy. Our table had some ocean view which was not expected but very welcome. For food we started out with the tuna tacos and the ceviche. The ceviche broth with extremely good with great spice and flavor. The steak tacos were very tender with a flight of salsa choices and pickled onion. The pork chop had a very zesty jalapeno applesauce and goat cheese fritter which all played very nicely together along with just a touch of balsamic reduction.. great restraint by the kitchen not go overdo that sweet reduction.. they used the perfect amount not flooded it as so many places do so you can't taste your food. We noted a couple things coming out that looked particularly great.. first were the salads.. which were very popular.. and the ribeye looked incredible. Absolutely fantastic meal. The food and drink it’s self were wonderful, but the true shinning difference was the service. I cannot detail enough how amazingly well we were treated. Chris, the brilliantly minded chef, whose food we enjoyed so much took the time to come out and personally introduce himself to us. The owner did the same and made us all feel not only very welcome, but as though we were family. We only had one very minor problem which was a dish being over cooked. Not by any means to the point of ruining the dish, but for the polite sake of my guest I brought it to there attention. Anticipating to have the dish remade. However they went far and beyond that. The dish was remade and came out perfect, the owner and Chris came over to take care of it personally and we were comped the meal. Chris also got us some shots which was something we all thoroughly enjoyed! Myself and my guests, being my girlfriend and father, are absolutely delightedly with Oak. Everything from start to finish has made it one of thee most wonderful dinning experiences we have ever had. I highly recommend The Oak to anyone who is looking for not just a truly delicious and meticulous prepared culinary delight, but an experience and staff that will make you feel at home. The food tasted reasonably good, and our server was experienced friendly and professional. We had a reservation but had to wait quite a while for a table. Once seated our drinks took fifteen minutes or so to arrive (one coke, one margarita).

Food was extremely slow to arrive, taking over half an hour for a chicken sandwich, burrata, and mushroom tacos. The burrata arrived at the same time as the entrees which was disappointing, as receiving it earlier would have allowed us to eat something during the long wait for entrees.

The food tasted good, although the burrata had a muted flavor compared to my experience elsewhere. Mushroom tacos had good flavor, especially with the green chilies added, however they were extremely small and shouldn't be considered an entree.

The most problematic part of the restaurant is the noise level. Floors, walls, and ceiling are all hard reflective surfaces resulting in an unbelievably high level of echo and ambient noise from surrounding conversations. Tables are close packed, amplifying the issue. As a party of two we struggled to hear each other without basically shouting at each other from across a two person table.
